With time running short and the mission pressing, Nick Fury sent Coulson directly to collect materials. Coulson, known for his strong execution skills, swiftly returned within twenty minutes from the SHIELD entertainment area bar with five or six assorted large lights.
Daisy rolled up her sleeves and directed a group of senior agents to assist her.
"Hill, pull out this wire from inside, yes, just like that."
"Natasha, arrange these green lights in sequence on the left side."
"Sitwell, place the blue light in the middle position, good..."
She wasn't polite at all, commanding everyone through the process. Following Professor Xavier's records and the explanations of color psychology, the bar's laser lights were transformed into emotion control lights through special arrangements.
After creating a simple controller, with the switch flipped upwards representing excitement, and downwards representing low spirits, Daisy checked everything and then turned to Nick Fury. "Who wants to try it out?"
The senior agents were known for their calm demeanor, none of them wanting to be labeled as impulsive hot-blooded people, which had nothing to do with SHIELD and Hydra. It was just a matter of pride.
Seeing no volunteers, Daisy had to resort to her current partner, bald brother Jasper Sitwell, for help.
Since he had been deceived numerous times and had the lowest level of willpower present, he was a perfect candidate for this experiment.
"Agent Sitwell, you try it." She didn't even seek his consent, almost coercively bringing Sitwell to the laser lights.
"Stand still, don't move. First, let's try excitement. Agent Sitwell, don't look at Director Pierce, look at me!" She made a couple of adjustments, noticing Sitwell's facial twitch as he tried winking at Pierce. With a nonchalant tone, she pointed out, and he immediately stopped.
Standing behind the modified laser lights, Daisy counted down and then turned the switch to the maximum.
The colorful lights began to flash at specific frequencies. When the subjects subconsciously attempted to explore the patterns between the light spots, their emotions were inadvertently manipulated by the lights, directing their brain to follow the designed emotional pathway.
The other agents watched as Sitwell initially maintained a polite smile, but after ten seconds, it took on a slightly different tone. His lips gradually curved with excitement, and a fervent gaze faintly projected from behind his lenses. However, Sitwell was still trying to hold on.
Daisy saw the effect and immediately lowered the controller to the lowest setting.
Sitwell quickly transitioned from excitement to a state of lethargy, his eyes becoming increasingly dazed and indifferent, displaying a sense of apathy towards everything.
Daisy felt that everyone had seen the effect, so she turned off the machine and patted the bald brother on the shoulder, indicating that he could rest now.
The bald brother looked blank, taking a few seconds to realize he had lost control earlier...
His expression was strange as he looked around. He hadn't said anything inappropriate, like shouting "Hail Hydra," right?
Seeing that everyone wore thoughtful expressions, he knew he hadn't made any major mistakes and breathed a sigh of relief. He instinctively took a few steps away from someone's laser light and felt a surge of irritation, though not strong, quickly suppressed by Sitwell himself.
The agents began to discuss, and Crossbones slowly approached Pierce, speaking in a barely audible voice, "This thing seems to have brainwashing effects..."
Pierce nodded. Whatever Daisy's original intention was, the modified device did indeed have strong brainwashing effects.
Currently, Hydra's brainwashing was completely about "washing" the brain, similar to how they dealt with Bucky in the movies, by using strong electrical currents to erase all memories from the memory area. However, this brainwashing wasn't thorough, and it required a high physical condition. Only one out of ten survived the process.
Now, with Daisy's emotion controller, with a few modifications, it could be applied to brainwashing. It was safe and painless, and seeing Sitwell's current state, there seemed to be no side effects. It was simply a godsend tool for Hydra to dominate the world!
They discussed how to more efficiently contribute to Hydra's cause. Meanwhile, the Fury on the other side was asking Coulson.
"How much does one of these cost?" The Director genuinely didn't know how much these large lights were worth.
Coulson hesitated slightly. Since he had requisitioned them directly, he didn't know the exact price. After a moment's thought, he gave an uncertain number, "Probably around three hundred dollars...?"
Fury felt a sudden tightness in his chest. Was it really that cheap? Spend the entire $5.5 billion budget on capturing the Hulk? That wasn't realistic. But at least a tenth of it should be spent, right? Now that he had the money in hand but couldn't spend it, it was causing him a headache.
He waved to Daisy. "Daisy, can this thing really take down the Hulk?"
"No guarantee, but I think the chances of success are pretty high," Daisy replied, not wanting to be too definitive.
Fury took two deep breaths and loudly announced the meeting adjourned! There was no need to hold the original rally. Everyone could go to your bases!
The senior agents who were originally at headquarters were somewhat better off, but there were seven or eight base leaders who had rushed back from Asia and Europe specifically for this meeting. For example, Hill had rushed from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere, and their faces looked ugly. Wasn't the situation supposed to be dire, at the critical moment of life and death for SHIELD? Are you kidding us?
Nick Fury couldn't do anything. He assigned his old buddy Pierce to appease the crowd while taking Daisy to meet General Ross at the Pentagon.
Prepared to make a last stand, the veteran general was also dumbfounded by Daisy's inexpensive solution.
"How is that possible? The Hulk is supposed to be invincible!" The old man was furious. If a few hundred-dollar lights could defeat the Hulk, then what had he been pursuing for so many years would be a joke?
The mighty super soldier, stepping onto the battlefield only to be faced with a barrage of lights that would render him powerless? Once this result was known to his political enemies in the Pentagon, they would drag General Ross to a military tribunal to avenge the American soldiers who had died pursuing the Hulk over the years!
Nick Fury stood to the side, playing dead. Daisy could only explain herself, "General, colors affect emotions, and this is not cutting-edge science. Your Department of Defense should also have labs researching brains. Just make a call and inquire."
The Department of Defense's X-Weapon Program had been ongoing for fifty years, and of course, they had labs researching brains. But General Ross had always focused on physical enhancement, not brain development.
The old man nervously picked up the phone and made the call.
Although they didn't interact much, General Ross was indeed a genuine political figure, and the person on the other end enthusiastically chatted with him.
After a short while, he hung up the phone, his face pale.
