Chapter 81 - Snowstorm Base

===================

"Isn't this like the fake news from those third-rate websites just seeking attention?" Hawkeye said half-jokingly.

"Hawkeye, based on my investigation, most of those websites indeed spread false information. However, some of them also disseminate misleading information to divert our investigation. They've been lurking around us, and have never left," Nick Fury replied seriously, hoping the team would take the matter seriously.

Daisy didn't participate in their conversation. She held a notebook, calculating the impact of the South Pole's magnetic field on teleportation. Black Widow glanced at her, and said she couldn't offer any assistance.

...

The fighter jet flew through the night and landed on the Antarctic Peninsula the next evening. Daisy saw one of Nick Fury's safe houses, a military base codenamed Snowstorm.

"Black Widow has been here; you all are people I trust. Rest here tonight, and tomorrow we head to the target location. Daisy and I will meet someone," Nick Fury announced.

Daisy estimated the significance of this "trusted person" must be high. She observed the base and was impressed by its scale. Underground in Antarctica, they had a runway, two unidentified Quinjets parked, and dozens of rooms filled with various weapons, ammunition, and supplies. A quick glance revealed how much money and resources Nick Fury had secretly embezzled.

These were all evidence. If it weren't for the "most trusted person," she wouldn't have gained entry.

Daisy also knew this base would be confiscated by the Avengers in the future, serving as a lookout tower for the Savage Land, which was nearby.

The Savage Land was an observation station established by extraterrestrial races two hundred million years ago. They collected various Earth species into a basin surrounded by volcanoes to observe the evolution of Earth's life. This was the real Jurassic Park.

After the aliens left, it became a colony of the Atlanteans. Unfortunately, with the catastrophe of the Great Flood, Atlantis sank to the bottom of the sea, and civilization departed from this utopia.

Later, some people discovered this place intermittently. Famous figures like Edgar Allan Poe and Jules Verne were among them, but they had no evidence to confirm the reality of this region.

The legend of this lost land persisted. One person particularly interested in this place was Hitler. He sent his subordinates to search in Antarctica, which indirectly caused the investigation they were conducting today.

Daisy sensed around but found nothing. However, it was normal; Nick Fury had built a massive base here, and Nazis had stayed here for 60 years and they hadn't found anything.

She remembered that the Savage Land also had Vibranium, but it was equally elusive. Without a special method, it was impossible to enter.

The extraterrestrial race's space technology at that time far surpassed her own knowledge. Trying to teleport in with current knowledge posed a huge challenge.

Following Nick Fury into the depths of the base, the atmosphere was very quiet. She didn't know who she was going to meet.

Outside a medical room, she saw the Frank Castle, who had been missing for a long time. Punisher's body was still robust, but his face was pale, and he was jogging on a treadmill.

Nick Fury threw his old friend to the South Pole? Is there any secret? She glanced at him with some caution.

Nick Fury pointed to his head, nodding at Punisher still exercising, "He has a bullet in his head, lodged in the cracks in the skull. It can't be removed by conventional means. Your treatment back then didn't completely save him."

Daisy nodded, "I noticed it at the time, but the brain is too delicate. My abilities couldn't handle such precision."

"And now?"

Daisy thought for a moment, "Even now, I can't guarantee it, what his current state is? Why did you place him in Antarctica? Medical conditions in New York would be better, right?"

Nick Fury glanced at his old friend, "His memory is a bit fuzzy. Only here can he calm down. Come on, let's go in and say hello. It was he who recommended you to me in the first place."

The two pushed the door and walked in.

The scars from the past had healed, but seeing Uncle Punisher covered in bullet holes and knife wounds still stirred a sense of pity.

He greeted Nick Fury with a stiff expression and greeted him, then stared at Daisy for a long time. Despite it being just a year ago, he seemed to remember for a long time, "You are... you are that girl who saved me back then?"

Daisy nodded, "Let me take a look at your injuries." She signaled him to lie on the bed, hands crossed over her chest, and carefully sensed the location of the bullet.

The results weren't too promising. This soldier brother seemed to have grown up on something special, displaying remarkable resilience. Even the damaged skull showed signs of healing. This would be an advantage under normal circumstances, but now it posed a bit of trouble. The bullet remained in his brain, affecting his thoughts constantly.

If Daisy were to directly remove the bullet like Magneto, Uncle Punisher would probably die on the spot.

As for shattering the bullet, it was even more impossible. The bullet didn't break, the brain would be the first to shatter.

Daisy went through all the powered individuals she knew. She thought maybe Shadowcat's abilities could be useful, but this one was currently just an ordinary human, not displaying any mutations.

Moreover, these mutant folks usually were normal around and wouldn't develop their powers unless they lost some loved ones. Even if they found Shadowcat, she wouldn't have the ability to heal Punisher right now.

Daisy shook her head with a grim expression, and both of them understood what she meant.

"I'll go back to New York and consult with Dr. Pym. See if the doctor has any ideas. There's also a famous neurosurgeon in New York, Stephen Strange; perhaps he might have a solution," Daisy tentatively suggested her plan.

"Don't bother with those doctors. I'm fine like this, no discomfort at all," Frank waved his hand, indicating he didn't care at all.

After exchanging a few words, Frank initially appeared normal, discussing some interesting stories from the battlefield. However, as he spoke, his facial expressions began to numb, his eyes filled with tenderness, staring at a corner of the room. His lips moved slightly, as if communicating with someone.

Seeing this, Daisy and Nick Fury had no choice but to slowly leave the room.

"If possible, try to help him as much as you can. Consider it a favor I owe you," Nick Fury said to Daisy in the end.

...

The night passed without much conversation, and they began changing clothes early in the morning.

Cold-resistant suits, snow pants, snow hats, snow boots, goggles - Daisy wore layer after layer of clothing as she walked out of the base, the harsh climate still freezing her to the bone.

Black Widow was stronger than her, although also wrapped up like a ball, yet still able to make a few shooting movements.

Hawkeye was relatively normal, refusing to use the special cold-resistant weapons in the base. He insisted on using his bow and arrow, wearing a coat similar to the others but only wearing a pair of gloves.

As for Nick Fury, this guy is really a hero, just putting on a cold-resistant suit over his usual leather trench coat.

The four of them rode a specially made snow camouflage vehicle, heading towards the coordinates in the distance.
