MY UNUSUAL ROMANCE
Chapter 2
After a dreadful day of helping Mr. Borjah, Eileen requests to her dear bestie that she won't be entertaining teachers, who keep giving her tasks anymore. Olivia replied with a few words nonchalantly as usual. Nevertheless, she might do it again after another week will pass. This is a unique trait of Olivia that finds Eileen troublesome. Perhaps she should find a way to further convince this stubborn person.
So much for all that, she still doesn't forget her plan to make Olivia more exposed to the outside world. Eileen has already planned on what to do.
This afternoon, classes were postponed since there will be a basketball match happening. Sean is one of the basketball players who will be playing at the court. Of course, she is going to see the match played by Sean. At the same time, it would also help Olivia to bring her out of her shell.
Thinking that this plan would work, she went towards their classroom where Olivia usually is.
Since her best friend doesn't really engage in these activities, she swore to convince Olivia to accompany her to the gym. If she doesn't agree, Eileen would have to do any means necessary to drag her out of the classroom.
She spotted her reading a book in her seat as she flipped the pages one by one. Wow, Olivia surely is a fast reader. It's obvious that she has read countless kinds of books that makes her reading pace faster and more efficient. Eileen approached Olivia's reading space that was once peaceful. She sat beside her and disturbed her comfort zone. "Liv, there's a basketball match going on at the gym. Let's go and see."
Olivia slowly closed the book and placed it down on her table. She turned around to face Eileen that clearly shows her displeasure. "Do you think I have the time for that?"
Eileen rolls her eyes and grabs Olivia by the arm. "Sean is going to be there. It would be fun to see him play!"
Without a chance to protest, Eileen drags her out of their classroom towards the gym. When they arrive, the game has already started. She has already saved their seats where they can clearly see the court. There are many students who keep cheering and yelling to show their support to the players. They have banners, mini flags, and t-shirts with the player's faces displayed on them. Of course, on the court, there are basketball players who are running around, trying to seize the ball from a certain player.
This player is none other than Sean.
Eileen squeals, jumps and yells from her seat, cheering for her beloved Sean. Even the way he runs, it's too appealing! His copper hair bounces while he runs. Sweat runs through his neck, making it more enticing. She squeals again and turns to Olivia to discuss the irrelevant details about Sean's handsomeness. However, when she turned around, she found her friend sitting in her seat imperturbably while reading a book. She was about to scold her for not paying attention to the game and punish her by talking non-stop about Sean, but she found herself only paying attention to Olivia instead.
For a moment, Eileen is in a trance. She was taken aback by her friend's elegance and beauty, contrary to the background where students are crude and tawdry. There was a certain luminescence and magnetism to her that left Eileen feeling stupefied and astonished. It was a side that she had seen countless times before, but it made her feel butterflies in her stomach for the first time. The world seemed to be tranquil, taking in the breathtaking scene in front of her.
The howling crowd interrupted Eileen's thoughts and looked at the court. There, Sean shoots the ball, gaining three points. That's when Olivia's focus also turned from her book to the court, showing a hint of irritation. Eileen snapped out of it and excitedly shook her aloof friend's body.
"Liv!! Did you see that?? Sean was so cool! So tall! Ackk!! Sean, notice me!!"
Olivia buried her face with the book in her hands when Eileen started waving and squealing towards the court, particularly at Sean. What an embarrassment.
After a while, Eileen calmed down. She totally forgot about her plan! She was so busy watching Sean in the court, instead of helping Olivia (more like forcing her) to be more participative in these activities, not just in class. She thought that it might help her connect to her fellow peers, like joining in on their cheers or discussing the faults and weaknesses of the players. She might even find a book buddy. At the same time, she can witness Sean's match! It's two birds in one stone!
However, Olivia was just not interested!
Eileen sighed helplessly. This is clearly not working at all! In the end, she just came here to see the match for her personal benefit, not for Olivia.
Based on her experience, she met countless people just by going to a basketball match. The people she talked to were really friendly and would exchange insights about the game. Eileen was sure it would work on Olivia!
Eileen looked at her disinterested friend, reading a book amidst the loud crowd. She noticed her brows were knitting while reading. Perhaps she might have gone too far by forcing her friend to be sociable in a basketball match. Maybe this isn't Olivia's way to mingle with other people?
She took a deep breath and comforted herself. That's right, there are numerous ways to let Olivia shine in the spotlight and finally letting her out of her comfort zone!
"Liv, let's go back." Eileen said.
"Why? I thought you wanted to witness Sean's magnificent match?" Olivia asked in bewilderment.
Eileen rolls her eyes and grabs Olivia by her arm. "I know you're getting on your nerves because of the loud noise. Let's go to the Library and read your books there. I'm sure it'll be very peaceful!"
For now, let's get her out of there to avoid her friend's fury. After all, Olivia can be scary when she's mad. Besides, Eileen might be able to find at least one or two friends she could talk to when they're in the library.
