"But why did you force me last night if you knew this would happen?" Chantal asked, her eyes filled with a mix of confusion and frustration.
"I did not mean to force you. Last night, it was a blue moon, to be exact. Werewolves born with an Alpha's blood differ from other male clan members. The moon goddess will automatically pair a wolf spirit with us. This spirit is a unique entity. You can call it a fragmented soul or an Alpha's guardian. My wolf spirit was beyond my control last night, and meeting our mate made him eager to take over." Yunho explained, his tone apologetic.
"You mean to say a wolf spirit is a fragmented soul separated from your main soul and has his own consciousness? So I was marked by your wolf spirit without your knowledge." Chantal clarified, trying to wrap her head around the supernatural explanation.
"I am truly sorry. Through the blessing of the blue moon, my wolf spirit will gain the ability to break free from the shackles that imprisoned him within, and this will make me unconscious. He can fully operate my body and decide what to do. Finding a mate made him lose his sense of judgment. It is my fault." Yunho confessed, remorse evident in his eyes.
Before Chantal could respond, her light brain rang. "Please stand. You don't have to continue kneeling. Excuse me, I need to answer this call." Chantal went back to her room and answered her father's call.
"Father..."
"Dear, why have you not informed the family that you've been dating your fiance for a long time?"
Chantal was stupefied hearing her father's words, "What do you mean, father?"
"This child, have you not seen Starnet? You should bring him home so we can meet him again. He was still so young when I last saw him."
"Father, I will call you later. I need to check on some things first."
Chantal ended the call and checked the Starnet.
There was a big banner of her and Yunho's image, with the words inviting everyone to witness the engagement ceremony to be held two months later.
"How could he be my fiance?"
She slowly dug for information about the man and why everyone told them they had such incredible goals together. Her discoveries were as follows:
1. Both went to the battlefield at the age of twelve.
2. It was a long-distance relationship, but both of them were enrolled in the First Military Academies of Serenithia.
3. Both were on top of their respective classes and had the same course.
4. Several pictures of each person on the battlefield look particularly shot at an angle where you could put two pictures as one, even when they were never together, and
5. They both won the same set of military awards and joined the same military ranks in the same year.
Chantal felt she would be speechless the whole day.
"Fate must be playing with me. How could we have the same goals? There were even pictures of us wearing or buying the same things. Was he really the one fated for me to grow my hair white?"
She sighed as she exited social media.
"Sh*t! What should we do if I get pregnant? Would this mean advancing the wedding?"
As Chantal returned to the living room, she noticed a neatly arranged spread of organic foods on the small dining table in the adjacent kitchen. Her face was still expressionless, but her eyes showed a glint of interest. She stared at the man preparing some juice with his back facing her.
In this era of interstellar living, obtaining and cooking natural foods has become a rare luxury. Even in the most distinguished households, indulging in such costly delicacies was a rare occurrence. Chantal, while not particularly fond of the taste of natural foods, found them more palatable than the peculiar flavors of nutrient solutions.
The unexpected gesture of a man she had only recently met and shared an intimate night with while preparing breakfast caught Chantal off guard. She wondered, 'Do werewolf men typically exhibit such care for their mates?'
"You're here! I'm sorry. I did not ask for permission to do this, but this is the least I could do. Come and eat breakfast with me. I'm sure you are starving, too, Dean Qin. I am unfamiliar with your preference, but these foods aren't irritating and contain more energy," the man expressed apologetically.
Chantal approached the table, but before she could take a seat, Yunho courteously pulled out a chair for her. There was an undeniable sense of being treated delicately, as if she were a fragile creature in need of protection.
"Thanks, Major Zhou," Chantal responded, studying the array of dishes before her.
They began eating, and the atmosphere was so silent that Yunho decided to break the tension. "I have heard a lot about you, Dean Qin."
"Hmm." Chantal paused, laying her utensils down to fix her gaze on the man sitting across from her. "Did you? I hope you've not heard the gossip or negative rumors about me. Or perhaps you would like us to move to the getting to know each other stage?"
"Don't worry, I've remembered all the good deeds you contributed to the world. And I genuinely like the idea of getting to know you deeper." Yunho assured her with a warm smile.
Chantal couldn't help but notice the attractiveness of a smiling Yunho for the first time. She thought, 'He's comparable to the dazzling sun that illuminates all the darkness within my heart. The brightest light in the sea of stars. And the only person that can make me show my secret desires.'
"Are you okay? Your ear tips are red," Yunho remarked, rising from his seat and handing a glass of juice to Chantal, gently patting her back.
He stood beside her while Chantal looked up. His face was sincere as he adjusted his height and bent until he reached eye level with Chantal. Chantal drank from the glass without responding.
Then Yunho's fingers tucked Chantal's red hair behind her ears, and he said, "Were you hurt somewhere? Your temperature was rather high."
