Chapter 160 - Tragedy after Tragedy

This has got to be one of the scariest moments of her life. Every single inch of the grand hall is surrounded by people. They are climbing up the walls like ants piling on top of each other and bloodthirsty like monsters. The snarls and killing intent are so powerful that it makes her feel faint.

She used a spell to fly up to the ceiling to enforce the defenses there before the weight collapses on top of everyone. The terrified screams of the children seem to make the adults outside act even more erratic. She is quick to notice that something is wrong with the barrier system the moment she got back but what she didn't expect was everything else.

Now that the adults are all affected by the spell placed on the barriers, she contemplated on what to do and bit her lip as everyone started yelling and working together to push the barricade forward and the ones that are at the windows are casting stunning spells to knock people away.

This foreign feeling she feels from these people can be felt at any distance but there are some she can sense those that are not affected, and she can immediately tell who they are.

"The Olive guard are not affected." she said.

Alabaster and Boris finally woke the women up. They are a bit disoriented and confused. The one who got over it quickly is a woman name Ursa. She listened to the both of them intensely on what is going on. She quickly stood up with a sense of urgency.

"Ladies! Get your asses up! We have to head to the Great Hall right now!"

Some of the guards seem to recover fast enough to listen and act on their captain's orders. The rest on the other hand seem to still need recovery. After leaving out of earshot, Boris pulled Alabaster aside to the wall.

"What do you know what's going to happen?"

Alabaster had a stoic expression but shows a hint of confusion.

"You're from the future. You know something. If you don't, I will have to forcefully enter your memories to get the information. I may not know much magic like you do but unlike you, I have it!" Boris says angrily.

"Alright, fine. I will." Alabaster put his hands up in surrender. "Where I come from, this day turns into a tragedy."

"What happened?" Boris inquired with his arms crossed.

"No one really knows exactly what happened because most of the people in this academy started killing each other in a brutal manner. Only the students and children remained safe."

Boris gritted his teeth. "You withheld such important information. Why the hell did you not tell us SOONER?! Do you have any idea how many children would become orphans?!" he yelled furiously while grabbing his shirt.

"I cannot change too much of the future. Did you forget the reason why Amaryllis cares for the growth of the students? They need to learn early of the harsh reality they need to face. If you think this is bad, then just imagine the upcoming war!"

Boris froze in confusion and let go of him. "What war?"

*

The Five-Year War on Terror was a world war that was triggered due to the fear and paranoia after the Ripper's killing spree. It started as a war against monsters only before humans from other countries start attacking each other.

Amy was meditating as this interaction is happening.

It was the turning point for many people in the story and the deaths are at a record high. Many mages and Ability users die in the conflict and what happened next would be the twilight years of some of the kingdoms. This event is engraved into many character's backstories and is necessary to get the story to move forward. Leon decides to be a leader that Solin needed him to be, Rufus defected after the war, Aaron joins the war and meets Aron after its end, Karok finally gains ground and opportunity to grow and become a nation and Philip takes the throne. Despite her seemingly indifference to the loss of lives of certain individuals, she is torn on choosing to stop it or to let events continue the way it should've. In the end, she listened to Alabaster after she asked him of his knowledge of the war as he lived through it. But she accepted that even if she knew the future, there are certain things that couldn't be changed. Even if she did, it would just delay the inevitable. It is chosen by those who have the power to make these decisions and there is already existing animosity between the nations. Solin goes to war against Hekaton. Getel fights against Karok and Damat and Karnei joins in the fight against Hekaton as well. Hekaton suffered and Getel loses much of its territory to Karok.

It is something that has to happen. The Ripper is one thing, but this war is one thing she cannot change however, that doesn't mean that this tragedy needs to happen.

"Whatever your reasoning, this is not going to help anyone. It's just gonna traumatize them! You're not a teacher nor a doctor. You don't know the consequences of what you're allowing." Boris shouted.

"This is meant to happen." Alabaster argued. "Those students that are here right now, especially those that participated in the war, all survived in the future. None of them died in the war. If we change the future, then that could change. Those children would die."

Boris remained defiant. "Never! I'm not gonna let that happen. This reasoning is wrong!"

"Boris!"

"This conversation is over."

That's enough, both of you!

Both stopped as they finally heard Amy's voice.

"Amaryllis, do something. Snap him out of it." Boris pleaded. "He's not in his right mind. He believes that by letting these people die, it would help people."

You should take into consideration that the Ripper Paranoia grew larger because of this, right? He may be gone but people still believe that he is still out there. It is also still a fresh wound to everyone especially to the victim's surviving loved ones.

"You know how important the war is, Amaryllis. It's the most important event in the story's history before Aron was born." Alabaster said.

I know the war is important but not this. Did you really think I didn't take your defiance into account? I am disappointed in you, Alabaster. But you should know this. The one thing different from your future is that Viola and I aren't in it and the Ripper's three years of terror are gone.

"Oh, come on now" he exasperated, "What can your twin sister do, anyway?"

Then everyone felt a heavy presence. It acts like gravity as it got Boris and Alabaster drop to their knees for a brief moment. The Olive guard all ran to the hall, but they seem as equally affected. Their eyes are wide with fear and their knees are wobbling.

This feeling may be unfamiliar and terrifying, but Alabaster and Boris recognize it.

Two figures walk to the guards with unimpressed expressions.

"Now, would you ladies and gents tell us what is going on here?"

Alabaster looked up to see Rufus and Leon, unharmed. Rufus came out a different person. His already dark aura grew fathomless and imposing. The feeling is intense. Boris held on to Alabaster's arm to stop him from saying something.
