Chapter 99 - The Feelings of Youth

Viola began crying in bed. Since she got her first period, she has been a hormonal mess as it began overriding her sixth sense. She could feel everything, and her sensitivity is almost unbearable. Her heightened senses haven't been that much of a problem before, but this is ridiculous. She would ask Amy for help, but she noticed that she's been busy, so instead of bothering her about it, she has been to the infirmary to discuss her newfound problem.

Originally, she could feel the presence of people around her at a certain distance. Whenever something feels out of place, the feeling is enough to wake her up. She styled her room into what she deems comfortable, to the placement of furniture and the clothes she wears. That power didn't grow that much later into her life until now. She can feel the fabric onto her skin, the humidity or lack thereof in the air, the feeling of cold and heat all the way to her fingertips, her sense of touch is also extremely accurate. The atmosphere is enough to give her a headache and a sensory overload.

She couldn't take it anymore. She is given medicine to dampen her powers so that they wouldn't affect her everyday life and unfortunately, until her body finally eases to her late teenage years, she will have to continue to suffer through this. On the plus side, she has items from Bowen's Gizmos to help her destress.

Everyone has been extremely supportive to her especially Sabina and Theseus who make excuses for her. Amy has been helpful to her with her problem, giving her items she requests and helping her with her studies.

Viola tossed and turned for a bit before going back to sleep. The potion is making her feel drowsy.

Nathaniel and Theseus are training at the garden near the dorm because the training hall is closed after a certain period of time. Nathaniel seems to be staring off in the distance but in reality, he is testing out the flow of his magic as it spreads to his eyes until he reaches his limit. The Magical Thread needs improvement, but he is glad to see that he created a breakthrough as this power usually negatively affects his eyesight, there is none of that right now.

Theseus on the other hand, is trying to fly without using any magical technique but his. He flew off course the first time, so he needs to learn how to control and direct it. He is a few feet up in the air and flying in circles. Even though it is supposedly practice, he is more or less enjoying this.

Then Theseus, still floating in the air, stared at Nathaniel. "By the way, who are you gonna ask?"

Nathaniel finally blinked and kept his eyes closed. He does this so many times that not many people see his eyes anymore.

"We don't ask people out. The Rising Sun Ball is gonna be like the Blue Rose ball. The guest, host and place are different." he replied.

"But that's the thing. None of us are actually old enough to debut but I heard the younger girls are going out to ask out guys to be their first dance and hand out their corsages already."

Nathaniel is unresponsive. In Solin, it is tradition for a newly arrived debutante to give her favorite flower to the person she has a good impression on or an interest in. The man then wears it on his suit or around his wrist, and it shows people that he is someone who would make a good match.

"We're too young to consider finding matches besides none of the girls are debutantes, we're just following a cancelled tradition."

Theseus looks giddy at the idea. Theseus always thought highly of many girls of good character, not because they make good brides but because they are his friends. He also has a crush on someone though he is uninterested to pry it out of his best friend.

This year's celebration is planned entirely by the students instead of the adults. The very idea sounds very exciting as there is no need for a chaperone or strict rules.

Nathaniel admits that he doesn't see anything that could possibly go wrong at this point as the date of the ball is quickly approaching.

Sabina managed to get herself a white rose and made it into a corsage. She tried to pressure the other girls, but Violet is the only one that made a corsage, Amaryllis is too lazy to make one and Melissa says she couldn't because of her engagement to the prince though that one is more of an excuse. At least the other girls express interest. She smiled immaturely at the corsage. She knows exactly who to give it to. She then stares at her dress. It is cream colored and while it is not a debutante's dress, it is still appropriate for the occasion given both her age and the kingdom's circumstance. It is one of the formal dresses she brought with her from home. According to Sal before he returned back to the estate, he says that the rules are far stricter in the Royal Academy, and he wrote it so much in detail that she has considered herself lucky to be in the Magic Academy. Sabina looked outside her window to see the object of her affections. She's not stupid. She knows he's too occupied to even have interested in other girls, but she also knows that no one has their sights on him after his behavior towards everyone last year. Even though she knows he won't return her feelings, she should at least make it well known.

Melissa is working on her inscription project at a table with Amaryllis as her company after she nearly failed the last test. After finishing it, she turned to see her training.

"I noticed that you spend time in the library more than you train. What's up with that?" she asked. Her expression is still quite moony.

As Amy looked at her, knowing that she'll grow up and make that look charming and dignified. "I just like to study more. I have much to learn, you know."

Melissa thinks of how she knows about Amaryllis. She prides on her observant nature. Despite being outwardly prickly and standoffish, she could see that she likes to work behind the scenes more and hiding something. She is probably one of the few people who is actually scared right now even if she doesn't show it. It is never like her to open up. Well... it's not like she opens her feelings toward anyone either.

Rufus received a package from his mother. It seems that she is insanely worried about his safety and wishes him to return home. She packed quite a lot too. Powerful flashy magical weapons and armor that aren't even his style. He pushes them aside. He has no desire to return back. Dealing with his overbearing mother, aloof father and those women are annoying. School is a safe haven for him, and nothing is gonna change that. He then saw another package and this time he knows what it is. He opened it to a scrying ball. It is a gift from Leon and the latest product from Bowen's Gizmos. It is extremely expensive, and they could communicate long distances with it. The letter says to use it as soon as it arrives.

After reading the instructions, he tapped it and he saw Leon's face which brightened up. "Holy Shit! It worked!"

"Language," Rufus scolded but with a hint of amusement.

"I had to wait weeks for this to deliver and now we can finally talk like this."

Rufus chuckled to Leon's enthusiasm, "There is a lot that I got to tell you."

"Actually, there is something I gotta tell you first." Leon said and waved a letter in his hand, "Ryllis sent me a letter."

Rufus scoffed, "Big deal, you get letters from all of us because you asked for it."

"As a favor," he finished. "She wants something from me."

Rufus is taken aback by it. Amaryllis never asks for favors not even hinting what she wants for her birthday.

"She wants me to find a spell called Dead Man's Net. She says she can't find it in the school library."

"Dead man's net..." then Rufus had a realization, "Ah, the name is familiar. It was mentioned in one of the books that she found. I don't know what it is though. It sounds like a novel."

"It's an old spell that lets you catch ghosts. Apparently, I'm the only one she could ask as the Royal library has every rare text."

"Did you find it?"

He laughed nervously, "Yes but...!" He then groaned in frustration. "Why the heck did she even want this?"

"She has faith in her theory that the Ripper is a spirit."

Leon had a thoughtful look. "Well, the adults aren't really doing anything. I overheard mother and the ministers that they aren't really doing much to fix the problem. And let's not forget about the old man. He's just sitting on his lazy ass just doing nothing"

"Pathetic," Rufus comments darkly.

"I know!" Leon agrees then groans, "I know who to ask but I'm gonna need her help. She might need to come over to the palace."

Rufus looks confused, "Why do you need her help?"

"Because I know one other person who knows that spell. That pompous prince has it."
