Chapter 78 - Starting to Heal

Boris took care of Yerenis's body and Alabaster took care of the survivors as they all ran to a nearby town. Amy brought back a terribly feverish Anna, with her memories erased, to the spot near the border where evidence of an attack remained and waited for the soldiers and troops to take them back. Amy changed back to her old clothes and watched over Anna despite not feeling well herself. Her nightmares and lunacy haven't occurred for a while. It probably died out due to the adrenaline and recent events.

"Hey!"

Amy looked up to see a large group approaching them. They are the same guards and soldiers that previously guarded her carriage. It seems they all decided to work together.

"Are you okay? You're not hurt, are you?" one of them said and picked up Amy while another picked up Anna.

"Take us home." Amy said before she fell asleep in her arms.

She looked around to the site where Tyler died, piled high with flowers and offerings. Her surroundings are empty of people as she read every card and sign.

She remembered his last words, "I'm scared."

The two holes in her stomach healed enough for her to be discharged from the hospital and the first place she wishes to visit is this. She was too unwell to attend his funeral so she decided to visit this place first before checking out his grave.

She had her doubts before but now she is quite certain who Tyler is to her.

*

"How are you feeling?" Boris asked.

Sore and tired,

"I mean emotionally," he clarified.

I felt angry but now I feel sad. I was too reminded by my own situation and I couldn't think of anything when I... she stopped herself from saying any more.

"Who is Tyler to you? He's not your son, is he?" He asked. This is the first time someone asked.

No, he's not my son. I have no recollection of being a mother nor being married in my original life. I don't intend to share this information. I've made my peace with this now.

Boris smiled. "I'm glad you are okay. Now rest, you've been through enough and done enough tonight."

Amy found herself waking up in a bed. The room is extremely clean despite looking a bit humble. She could tell that she is not in Fiore. She could tell by the smell of the room and her surroundings. She looked to her left to see Boris, watching as she wakes up.

"Hey," she gripped his hand to check if he is real, surprised to see he is actually here.

"You're safe now, miss." Boris said and she noticed the amount of people. The Queen's guard and a Blair soldier watched as she woke up, tearing up as she tried to talk but a tired groan escaped her mouth instead.

"You and your maid were feverish but otherwise you are unharmed. Your maid was injured but is now treated."

Amy nodded weakly.

According to Boris, Amy was deemed to be in no condition for travel and the inn is now rented out for a week to herself. In all honesty, it wouldn't be of any surprise that people would think she is a royal princess when receiving this sort of treatment.

One of the innkeepers did accidentally greeted her as a princess much to her embarrassment after she was gently corrected. The inn was packed with guards and servants but at least it is quiet. The number of guards have doubled and included mages this time so a repeat of what happened would never occur again.

Boris is not kidding with his diagnosis. In addition to being mentally ill, she is physically ill as well. Speaking of, Anna finally recovered from her wound though that bite was kept secret and would leave a permanent scar. Amy specifically asked for Anna to be compensated and to return to her family in the capital once she makes a full recovery though Anna insists on staying with Amy. It took some persuasion on her end to make sure Anna returns home and wait for her.

No one ever figured out Getel is behind this and truly believed that they are a rowdy group of bandits who kidnap her for ransom only to be chased away by vampires.

Good, at least this prevented an international crisis. Everyone was apparently so fearful that she got infected but Boris calmed them down and became her private doctor. Thankfully the news did not reach Hekaton who would surely use this as an excuse for something. As for Getel... well interesting story.

The queen already knew.

Amy received many letters from Viola, her academy, her parents and her schoolmates and strangely enough, the queen again.

She wrote a lengthy apology as well as revealing she knew Getel is behind this but chose to keep it a secret and advised her to keep it a secret too. Getel would surely keep this a secret and deny everything if confronted. She then explained that she will reform the border and punish everyone there who were bribed and incompetent for letting this happen. After that, Getel will not attempt to do this again. In addition, what had happened is a complete secret. Only she, the queen, and a few ministers on her side knew about this and vowed to take this incident to the grave.

Amy replied to her that she accepts her decision but didn't write anything else including the details of what happened during her journey.

Viola wrote to her of an approaching annual school tournament taking place and that she is participating in the next month. Amy remembered in Aron's story that he participated in the tournament in his second year but he didn't reach the top three due to circumstances while first place went to his rival and supporting character; Benjamin Clearwater. This tournament was the event that led to the moment where Aron caught Leon's eye and attention. Envious, she wrote back to her, to tell her everything in detail when it is over.

Her parents wrote to ask her how she is doing. Amy wrote a lengthy half-truth response of her trip, diagnosis and condition and assured her parents she is doing fine.

She wrote to her schoolmates but made each one short out of fatigue.

Another good news is that the Academy wrote back to her saying that once she returns for the upcoming school year, she will be attending as a third year.

With the temporal disease now lightening up, she is feeling hopeful for the first time.
