Chapter 60 - Form like Mist

She hears overlapping voices that it are hard to distinguish what they are saying but this is all she could gather.

You are my hero, Ms.-

This is all my fault!

This isn't your fault.

I love you

I will never be yours.

I should have been the one to die.

No one blames you.

He's dead because of me.

Is this is how it ends?

What is going on?

"Amy!" Viola burst in, stirring her awake. Amy could tell she is sweating profusely because she feels wet. Viola got a handkerchief and wiped her face with it.

"You were shaking a lot. Did you get a nightmare?"

Amy nodded. "Yeah, it's just a bad dream."

"How about I go alone? You need rest. You look terrible."

Amy blinked slowly at Viola. Her hands already feel clammy from the sweat.

"Tell them I won't be coming and that I'm sorry again."

Viola nodded and left the room.

Amy grabbed a shawl to wrap her body with and sat at her desk as she looked at her progress from last year. She succeeded in creating Hecate and its upgraded version and used one of the worms from her pet project on Alabaster to use outside of school. During her summer vacation, she has been practicing more magic from sharing her mind with Alabaster and in return, he knows her goals and is willing to accomplish them in her stead in ways she would be unable to.

This is the first time she had used her pet projects on someone, which is already dark enough as it is, but being freed from the responsibility of even one of them has lift a lot of burden on how much magic she has been feeding them. It required a lot of magic and now she felt strength that she never felt before. Funny that all of that was just getting rid of one worm. It took some time for her body to get used to it but luckily it passed.

Alabaster has been traveling all around Solin to find the succubus contract although she believed that it shouldn't be their first priority. Instead, she convinced him to start a business with her practical inventions and machines so that they have the money to pay for Alabaster's search for the items she requires. He is intelligent and charismatic enough to be a legitimate businessman, so she agreed and so far, it is quite promising.

After looking at her luggage one last time, she is ready to go on one last jog before hearing the door knocking.

"Come in,"

Anna came in with a tray of letters, "Miss," and set the letters on her desk.

The first letter she picked up is Nathaniel who thanked her for the birthday gift. His eyesight is a reflection of his powers so he is quite far-sighted now. He had a pair of durable prescription glasses that would stay put especially as he is active.

Next is Theseus who wrote a lengthy letter of how he and his family are doing. He also thanked her for the souvenir she and Viola sent him.

Melissa has wrote about what she did all summer. She was both training and taking private lessons in the Royal palace and commented/complained that she never got to go on vacation like she did and that she is stuck with Leon all summer who also complained that he never gets vacations either.

Even Rufus, who rarely writes, wrote his jealousy of her going to vacation and that she should visit the Marquis Valerian territory commenting how nice it is in the summer.

Sabina voices both her excitement and sadness in her letter of her brother; Sal, going to school this year. Because he is the heir to the earldom, he will be attending the royal academy, not the one his sister is attending. In addition, their adoptive father is extremely sickly so she has been nursing his health all summer.

A couple of other classmates she kept in contact with all express their excitement to see each other again. The one letter she didn't get was from Selim but then again, Damat and Solin are not known for being close and his parents would probably not approve of their friendship.

After reading the numerous letters, she cleaned up everything and head outside where she saw Ramiro caw at her impatiently while she continues jogging.

As she runs, she catches glimpses or hallucinations of things from a while now.

Ever since she finished her time travel mission, she has been seeing things. At first she thought it was a side effect on using the worm on Alabaster but he told her that it isn't the case.

Then the shapeless figure mouthed, "How are you?" which she completely ignored.

She suffered from nightmares since the term ended and it caused insomnia, hallucinations and illness to her. Alabaster offered that he will help with her recovery. She, unfortunately, chose to hide that she is hallucinating from everyone else. The last thing she needs is to go to a psychiatrist. Alabaster even praised her for hiding this. It seems his experience with his insanity has given him a terrible experience with others.

Her parents are so worried that she would get worse that they told her that she will not be going to the academy for the term until she recovers. After some consultation, Amy is relieved that her absence will not cause her to be held back when she returns even if she missed the entire school year. She is at a level beyond a second year after all.

As much as she hates to admit it, she will have to start becoming distant with everyone until the effects wear off. She doesn't want anyone to think she is crazy with all these hallucinations.

She looked at the transparent illusion. It has a misty shape and appearance but she could make out its colors.

The figure's smile look so gentle that it might outrank Viola.
