Chapter 14 - Training Viola

"Are you sure this will increase my power?" Viola said while observing her surroundings outside of the estate gates.

"Oh definitely, miss." Alina said. "I've trained Miss Amaryllis and she has gotten much stronger." She assured her.

"I'm still getting used to running a mile." Amaryllis told Viola.

Alina is admittedly confused when she was told that Viola would join in.

Amaryllis stretched for a bit, preparing to run while the homemade dog drawn carriage is also being prepared. "If you get tired then you can ride on this." Amy says with a smile while petting one of them. The dogs are big in size.

Viola shook her head with hesitation. "I'd rather not." Viola has a slight fear of dogs, mostly specifically ones that are big, but there is another reason.

The dogs look like typical full grown greyhounds but were given the illusion to look like it. Alina has actually found and helped Amy train them. In reality, they are hellhounds that are disguised to look like greyhounds. Despite their name, they are not actually from hell and they are so much similar to regular dogs in term of their behavior and intelligence. Amy has come to know that hellhounds are actually endearing and lovable once tamed. They are however extremely powerful, ageless and impervious to iron and most conventional weapons. Even though they are disguised, they are also quite terrifying and are of demonic nature so Viola's fear of them is a natural instinct. It took Amy weeks just to get used to them and vice versa.

So far only she can sense them so other than them, no one else knows.

"Let's go." The three ladies began to run.

Alina is admittedly confused to the slight change in Amy's energy. She ignored it for the first two minutes but it is depleting faster than it should.

"Your energy is weaker than before. What is this?" She asked in her language.

Amy looked at Alina for a brief moment. Viola is too focused on running and suffering from it to even notice.

"It is going to have to wait. We'll speak of this later."

Alina nodded in response and they continued running. In the end, Viola decided to use the carriage due to her exhaustion while Amy finishing running the mile. While she is not as exhausted and weak from when she started, her progress was a bit slower than it is now.

"I can't believe you run this much every morning and night." Viola said and got off the carriage only to tumble for a bit. "My legs and breath hurt. How do you do it?"

"I got used to it." Amy said. "You will too."

Viola returned her sister's answer with an unconvinced look.

Amy laughed. "Get back on the carriage. The walk back to the mansion is longer when your legs are tired."

Viola looked to see she is right and resigned to her fate.

"I'll get father's muscle relaxer. It will make you feel better." she said.

Viola nodded and the dogs literally trot their way inside.

After the carriage stopped at its destination, the dogs followed Alina while Viola is treated by Amy who applied the relaxer on her legs.

"What else are you gonna make me do next? More exercise?" Viola asked much to her chagrin.

"Not exactly."

Viola then looked at Amy her brows raised.

"If you want to make your powers stronger, you need to learn how to control it."

Viola was taken aback. "But I already know how to use it."

"If that's the case then why ask for my help? Your powers are stronger than mine." Amy said and plugged the potion bottle with a solemn voice.

Viola looked at her sister. "I'm sorry."

"Don't... I remember how upset you were when you found out that you weren't a true mage."

Viola nodded while gripping her shirt. "I wanted to ask you because everyone keeps saying you have better... um..."

Amy looked up at her sister as she's trying to find the right word.

"Did they say that I'm better than you?" she said with a hidden smirk.

"Something like that." Viola admitted.

To tell the truth, it hurts. She didn't mean to do this on purpose. While it is a plus that Viola thinks her purification ability is stronger than hers, as it helps with her confidence and self-esteem, the intention is far from the truth. She purposely hid her true strength so that she would be overlooked as Aron will inherit her abilities someday. Aron may have inherited Violet's abilities but his mother's strengthening ability is much more stronger than his by a biblical level. It also led to his enemies finding out which then led to...

Amy stopped her thoughts from there. No... it hasn't happened yet. In the manga, there was a scene that brought much sympathy to the audience and criticism to the author. She didn't remember in her original life if she was one of those people but she did remember the sadness she felt towards this part.

She is afraid that Viola will detest her for hiding her abilities. Viola already felt immense jealousy towards her when it is revealed Amy is a true mage while she isn't. If she discovers that Amy has the stronger power then she might start to hate her. The sibling rivalry trope may be a trope but she cannot deny some things. Fiction and real life may have many differences but they cannot overlook the fact that certain things in fiction are derivative from real life.

"Let's go." She said and led her to the training ground where there are glass vases full of dirty water.

"Your powers are stronger but I have better control. That means your range is bigger but without control, it can only scatter." Amy said and looked at one of the vases. "You've never exactly trained before and all you've purified are the small things you come across."

Amy puts her hands on both vases. The one on her left hand glowed for a few minutes and stopped to show the water is clean and the one on her right has the water swirl a bit before the water and its contents separated.

"The one on the left was purified and the one on the right was with elemental magic."

Viola nodded with awe in her expression. Elemental magic is the fundamental nature of magic with many different branches but mastering it at the age of nine is impossible especially if you use that and the power at the same time.

"What's the difference?"

Viola stared at the vases. "The one on the left has no more icky things. The one on the right still has the icky things but it is at the bottom and is not mixed with the water anymore."

"Yes. Purification works by purifying things meaning it is gone. It doesn't just work with evil things. If you put your mind to it then you can purify what you wish but if you are not careful, you can erase almost anything. Elemental magic doesn't work like that. You can conjure the elements but unlike our abilities, it cannot come from nothing."

"Even people?"

"I don't know." Amy admits.

Any accounts of Violet's power is vague but Aron is shown to have better understanding of it and thankfully his thoughts were shown to the viewers. He is not powerful enough to completely eradicate a person but he believes that might be possible. Aron is more of a fighter than a mage as he had more talent as a warrior than a mage but he eventually balances that out as his purification ability grows.

"Another difference is unseen. The water is different too. There are bacteria and microbes that we cannot see under the naked eye. The purified water is removed of that completely while the elemental water still has those things."

"So I have to purify this?" Viola said and went to another filthy glass vase and used her power on it. She purified the water but there are bits and pieces left as well as the inner lining in the vase left behind from the water. Unlike Amy, it was almost instantaneous for Viola to do so.

"Ah," she sighed in disappointment.

"Don't be disappointed. It took me an entire month to get this right." Amy pats her sister's shoulder. "Exercise helps you control your energy flow better and increase the energy in our bodies. Both magic and our powers depend on the same source after all."

Amy's plan isn't to strengthen her ability but to help her control it. She watched as her sister began training her ability.

To tell the truth, I don't know if it would work. There are many girls who are way older than us with more experience and power who would be attending the palace. If Melissa Campbell was chosen to be Leon Rex's wife at her current age then that means they are not looking for strength but practicality. I am not worried about the others but for us.

Amy remembered the scene in the manga where the Queen used her power to heal the imperial army of even the most serious of injuries and boosted their morale while King Leon is fighting at the frontlines. No one else is more suited to be queen than her. Instead of sabotaging her sister's chance at the selection, she will make Melissa shine brightly using her own ability.
