Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 – Advices

You know... There are some occasions in our lives when we find ourselves in unexpected and somewhat uncomfortable situations. For example, right now, I have no idea about the true relationship between Nala and Mom.

They might be mere acquaintances or colleagues, but they could also be friends or even intimate friends. Since I don't know the truth, I can only judge based on my observations.

My conclusion is that Nala is a friend of Abigail and Mom, but at the same time, she is someone who holds a higher position in their hierarchy. As a work-focused woman, Nala considers it more important to do what's right than to bend the rules for friendship.

In other words, even if she may sacrifice friendship, Nala will follow orders that she believes are correct. But this may or may not have happened, and Nala, for some reason, couldn't prioritize their friendship.

However, given Nala's personality, she quickly forgets bad feelings or previous fights. It's like when a boss scolds an employee and then needs the employee to complete a task.

Now, what is the truth? Is Nala naive or just emotionally detached?

The fact is, now we're in the classic situation where the boss who scolds comes to dinner at our house. Only in our case, the situation is much more complicated than that.

"Lady Nala... Is this a good idea?"

Abigail, the only person I can rely on at this moment, asked the question I was anticipating the most. She doesn't seem very comfortable or confident in asking, but she overcame her fear and asked the question anyway, fortunately.

"What do you mean by that, Abigail?"

"Ehhh... Humm, Inessa hasn't fully recovered emotionally, Lady Nala. She needs more time to acclimate herself and return to her normalcy. Today was her first day out of isolation, and she has already gone through so much stress..."

Very wise words. I couldn't have said it better; the situation is far from ideal for someone trying to recover emotionally.

And now that I look at Mom, she's not well...

She seems normal, but you can see her eyes becoming increasingly dull. The expression is normal, but even her voice is very indifferent. I'm getting worried...

"Humm... I see."

Nala seems to have noticed the same thing and also looks concerned...

She began to stare at Mom and moved towards her. As she walked to her, Nala started speaking:

"Listen, Inessa, we don't officially have an answer to your Nexum yet. But one thing I can tell you. Nexum is an event exclusive to our race precisely to prevent us from isolating ourselves from the world. And for us, our Nexum is our life, our everything."

Nala got very close to Mom, put a hand on her shoulder, and continued speaking:

"You're very lucky; many of us will never have the chance to initiate even one true bond. I can't even imagine how lucky you need to be to find a bond and a Nexum. Rejoice, Inessa, you are the luckiest dragon of our generation... Hahahaha."

With a strong laugh, Nala offered words of comfort to Mom. Mom also became a bit more active and vivid; she must be pondering what she just heard.

Anyway, after these words, Nala took her hand off Mom's shoulder and took me back into her arms, but she didn't move away and stayed close. After a few seconds looking between Mom and me, she continued speaking:

"Inessa, as Lord Akachi said, Apollo will be your hope and motivation to rise and improve. And as long as he exists, you have an obligation to live in the present as best as possible and forget what happened in the past."

After saying these words, Nala began to move away and returned to her place, but again, she didn't sit down. She started drinking the glass of juice she had left halfway, and as soon as she finished, she refilled the glass with another type of juice.

With the glass in hand, she turned to Mom, looked at Abigail, and then at me. Then she spoke:

"One of the biggest mistakes anyone can make is worrying about problems that haven't happened yet. Another one as big as this is not forgiving yourself for what happened in the past. Inessa, I believe you did what you felt necessary to do to avoid the worst."

She paused a little and looked at the tree near us... She spent a few seconds doing this, as if she was remembering something.

After a few seconds, she looked down at the juice in her glass. While looking at the orange liquid, she said:

"We all have ghosts from the past… But it depends solely on us to fight them, the bigger ones first and then the weaker ones, but they all must be faced. Inessa, if you can't do it alone, you can ask for help, that's not a shame."

Again, Nala approached Mom, still with the glass in her hand. But this time Nala decided to lightly caress Mom's face and head. I think she wanted to show that she was serious and trying to comfort despite everything...

"You're still young, girl, you may no longer have the bright future we wanted, but at least you can enjoy your life a lot more now that you don't have so many weights to carry. So… start by enjoying the time you have with your child now, you can decide later."

One thing is for sure, Nala is not the type of person to mince words when she has something to say. And this time, she spoke deeply and from the heart, making me emotional. I could feel that she was being sincere…

I had no idea she could be like this, it was a pleasant surprise. So far she had only scolded and lectured both Abigail and Mom, she didn't seem like someone so sentimental.

But appearances really can be deceiving, fortunately or unfortunately. Plus, the things she said were so profound and meaningful, they were exactly what Mom needed.

But it also leaves me a little confused about how to feel about Nala. Is she rude or just a Tsundere? How does she normally act? Was she so rude to us just because she was angry or was it her normal way of acting?

There are so many questions... But they will hardly be answered today, Nala just walked away from Mom and returned to her seat, but again she didn't sit down, she looked at us and said:

"Abigail..."

"Yes, Lady Nala..."

"Do as I said. After everything is finished and organized here, I will owe you a favor. And you can ask me for anything, even if it's to talk to the Council. I will help you with whatever you are thinking of doing."

"...Lady Nala... This..."

"Don't worry; it will be a favor for a favor, nothing more fair. Also, despite still being very upset with Inessa, I still have memories of the past. My conscience is also heavy because of what happened. I should have done everything possible and impossible to prevent what happened..."

Like Abigail, who was beside Mom and me, you could tell how nervous she was after learning that Nala would offer something in return.

A favor from a Great Lady Dragon must be very important. Nala said that Abigail could ask for anything... She also left something kind of implicit when mentioning the Council...

Is she opening a door for some kind of plan to be executed? This can be something very important; I have to keep an eye on any developments in the matter.

But Nala seemed quite sad when mentioning that she hadn't done enough in the past. Does she regret something? She briefly lowered her gaze to look at the juice in her hand but quickly looked back at me.

"Inessa, I will be your guest for the next 6 years, or much more than that. It will depend on this cute little thing and how he will grow."

She gave me a small smile, this time a much more sincere and less maniacal smile. It was beautiful; I have to admit, but it was brief, and she soon continued speaking:

"As I said, I want to see him grow, I want to see how he will develop and how he will act when he is older. He's such an... interesting boy. He managed to withstand my Aura pressure and didn't faint; he keeps looking at me without fear, at most curiosity; and..."

She smiled again like a maniac, that beautiful smile from before. Why does she love to put on this smile?

I think this will be one of the first complaints I will present as soon as I can walk on my own legs.

"As if all of this wasn't reason enough to pique my interest, this cheeky little boy even had the audacity to show his dissatisfaction in front of me… HAHAHAHA, I really want to see him grow, and I would love to train him personally."
