While Nala was asking questions, Mom became visibly uncomfortable. Even when Nala said she didn't want to know the answers anymore, Mom didn't seem any less uncomfortable.
This time, I don't think it's a delicate subject, but I have the impression that Mom wants to hide something. And confirming my deduction, Mom, visibly agitated and stressed about the situation, spoke up:
"Lady Nala, this is a very personal matter, and I don't feel comfortable sharing the details. And you have no right to question me or anyone within my domains. I request that you fulfill your purpose in this place and leave as soon as possible."
"Uh-huh, sure, fine. Don't worry, dear, but as I said before, you won't like the news I have... By the way, I think you'll hate it..." Nala's voice became even more serious.
"I WANT TO KNOW, NOW!" Mom was also getting more and more agitated.
Please, God, don't let anything bad happen. And most importantly, don't let violence occur around me here... I can't even run...
"Very well, let's get to the explanation. Since you still recognize yourself as the ruler of Nenvia, everything might be a bit easier for you."
Nenvia is an unfamiliar word to me. Is Nala referring to Mom's territory or this village? Anyway, this will be a question for later.
After Nala finished speaking, she supported me with one arm, and with the other arm, she made a simple hand gesture, and a light began to shine.
Literally out of nowhere, an extremely pristine piece of parchment with orange and blue details appeared and floated in the air. It was an extremely beautiful and elegant parchment.
Too bad I couldn't see what was written on it, and I suspect that even if I were seeing it, I wouldn't understand what is written. But I could feel that the parchment had a certain magic, as if trying to intimidate anyone who saw it. Almost like looking at a judge in a courtroom.
This certainly wasn't an ordinary parchment...
As soon as the parchment materialized completely and stopped, floating in the air, it was the signal for Nala to start speaking.
"In the name of the Supreme Council of Bordium, represented by the Triad of Advisers composed of The Honorables Supreme Lady Dragons: Lady Alexandra Harpium, Lady Dorothea Sinnope, and Lady Judith Castro; I, Chief Inquisitor and Great Lady Dragon, Nala Diguard, was tasked with tracking, capturing, and deporting the following suspects: Nendula Zindor, Cristhine Ferguson, Felicia Martin, Norberta Elstart, and Norume Himekata."
This time, Nala had a dignified and authoritative voice. I think she respects this Supreme Council a lot...
I confess I'm curious about what this Supreme Council is and what it does. Also, what do the titles announced mean, but I think that's not a priority for now.
There are many different names in a few sentences, I ended up more confused than I already was. But from what I understood, Nala is a kind of police agent sent to arrest wanted criminals.
"Furthermore, I was also tasked with delivering a great warning to you by Lady Alexandra, given that my destiny on this mission would lead me to your territory, Inessa. I believe you are aware of what this task means, right?"
"... You can't be referring to..." Mom spoke quickly, getting up abruptly and at an incredible speed, at the same time that the chair she was sitting on was thrown away.
"Exactly, Lord Akachi ended up confessing his last acts of benevolence towards you. What I personally thank him deeply for. However, your situation has become much more complicated because of this."
With a sigh, Nala lowered her head and closed her eyes, then she shook her head as if remembering something stressful. After that, she spoke again, but still with her head down and looking at me.
"In his 'confession,' Lord Akachi reported that he found a very special baby very close to his territory, and for some reason that only he knows, he decided it would be a good idea to let you adopt the child."
She stopped talking again, but this time it was just to start poking my belly slightly for some reaction. After I didn't react, she just smiled and continued talking.
"I don't know how bad or good this was for you, Inessa. But now I understand that this little boy is truly special. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the Triad doesn't care about that. They just want to know how they would proceed with your punishment."
"I... I... I don't know what to say, but it's true, Lord Akachi came to me with Apollo a few weeks ago. He told me that Apollo would be my beacon and motivation... To get out of the lamentable situation I was in... But he told me not to worry about the council, that he would talk to them personally."
Mom was no longer uncomfortable or stressed. Now she was beginning to hesitate in her words, as if getting scared of where this subject would lead.
"Yes, Lord Akachi didn't lie. He personally spoke to them officially. One of the advantages of him being their Statera is that he can pull strings in some situations. Besides, he likes to fulfill his promises as best as possible. Also, he loves taking care of friends..."
A sincere smile appeared on Nala's face as she spoke. But it didn't last long; soon, she raised her head and looked back at Mom.
"Yes, he loves doing that kind of thing... I sincerely thank him for all the things he has done and continues to do for all of us."
These words of thanks also seemed very sincere to me; Mom even changed her tone to a softer and more comfortable one.
"Unfortunately, Inessa, there is a limit to how much Lord Akachi can do. And we can't ignore the fact that the council received several complaints and denunciations about you and your negligence over the last 3 years..."
I think this is where everything starts to go from bad to worse...
"The Council was willing to grant you amnesty for your crimes... But the three of them reached a consensus that you may not be fit to train a Heir, especially after your incident and after you isolated yourself from the world for 3 years."
Ok... What does one thing have to do with the other? Why such an inconsistent decision? What kind of incident happened with Mom for this decision to be made?
Unlike me, Mom seems to understand exactly what Nala is saying, so much that she stood still and without reaction.
Abigail also seems a bit shocked, but not as much as Mom; I think she's more concerned about Mom than shocked by the news.
Meanwhile, Nala made the same hand gesture again, but this time the parchment disappeared, going back to some place I have no idea.
Another hand gesture was made by Nala, and again, another parchment appeared out of nowhere. This one was a bit simpler, pure white and without adornments, it looked more like a letter than some kind of official authorization.
But this time, the parchment floated near Mom, who took a few seconds to pick it up and read what was written.
She was reading to herself, whether in a hurry, embarrassed, or afraid to read aloud. I don't blame her; this letter certainly doesn't bring good news.
"As you can read in Lady Alexandra's letter, the boy, Apollo, will be able to live with you freely and without restrictions. But from the present date, a representative of the council will be sent every month to check your mental and social condition, Inessa, as well as check the living conditions of the baby. Visits will be made randomly until 6 years from the present date."
"And then... what will happen after the 6 years pass? Please don't tell me they will take him... He's not a dragon by birth; he shouldn't spend 10 years of his life in that place... That's not fair to him..."
Abigail's words came out like a desperate plea; she doesn't seem to like at all what the future holds for me. At the same time, she also looks desperately at Mom and me, trying to find a way to help...
"This decision will be made by the Supreme Council, Abigail, based on Inessa's cited conditions and the baby's conditions. But whatever decision is made must be followed, no matter what."
