As I walked through the forest, my mind was racing, trying to figure out how I'd find the last person with the opposite amulet. After what felt like hours of searching, I finally spotted a figure in the distance. My heart pounded as I noticed the blue amulet hanging around their neck—it was exactly what I needed. Without thinking, I charged at them, ready to attack.
But just as I lunged, my strike was blocked. That's when I realized who I was facing.
"Sora! Sorry, I didn't realize it was you."
"Noah!" Sora replied, equally shocked. "We don't have the same amulet. Does that mean we have to kill each other?"
"Of course not, Sora. We're not going to let this tear us apart. We'll figure it out together."
As we continued through the forest, a strange feeling washed over us, like we were being watched. Before we could react, three figures leaped out of the bushes, ambushing us. "Noah, watch out!" Sora yelled as he pushed me out of the way, taking a hit that left him slightly injured.
Rage surged through me. Without a second thought, I nocked an arrow and released it, piercing the skull of the attacker who had hurt Sora. Blood splattered everywhere. Meanwhile, Sora summoned an earth shard and drove it through the heart of another enemy, killing him instantly and claiming his amulet.
The third attacker, seeing how quickly we had dispatched his comrades, hesitated. Fear was written all over his face. But instead of fleeing, he resorted to a desperate move—he used a forbidden technique to summon one of the elder gods. A massive, dark figure loomed behind him, and I knew the stakes had just been raised.
"Sora, get back!" I shouted, but it was too late. The elder god began to take control of Sora's mind. I was forced into a nightmare scenario, fighting my best friend while trying to break the god's hold on him. For hours, we battled, me trying to avoid killing Sora, but the elder god's influence was too strong. An invisible force seemed to block me from getting close enough to save him.
Finally, Sora gained a brief moment of clarity. But instead of turning the blade on me, he drove it through his own heart.
"Goodbye, Noah," he whispered, tears streaming down his face. "I'm sorry for attacking you."
"Sora, NO!" I screamed in agony, wishing this was all just a bad dream.
"Noah, don't let hatred consume you. You're stronger than that. Goodbye, old friend..."
With those final words, Sora's body collapsed. Tears blurred my vision as I watched the life drain from him. I turned my fury on the elder god, but before I could strike, the dark figure vanished into thin air, leaving me alone with my grief.
I fell to my knees, overwhelmed by an uncontrollable rage. A dark aura surrounded me, and killing intent poured out of my body. But even through the anger, a promise formed in my heart: I would become a god, not just to avenge Sora, but to destroy every elder god that had ever wronged us.
"I love you, my brother," I whispered through clenched teeth. "I will avenge you."
I am Noah, the kid who will become a god.
