Chapter 1 - Second Chance

An annoying ringing sound resounded, startling the young boy awake. Compelling the young boy to stretch out his arm and put a stop to the sound

*click*

With a clicking sound, the noise subsided. The young boy stood up from his bed, feeling the urge to pee. The boy went to the bathroom to relieve his body of ammonia. After the boy was done, he pulled up his shorts and walked to the sink to wash his hands.

The boy cranked the faucet open and started washing his hands. After that, he washed his face too, which prompted him to look into the mirror.

*gasp*

Shock filled the boy's face. Although it has been a long time, he will never forget this youthful face. That's right, that boy who was shocked to his core upon seeing his face, was...

"What the hell?! Am I dreaming?! Isn't this the face when I was a kid?!"

Kagami Shin.

Shin was perturbed, he didn't know what to make of this. He thought that this was some sort of twisted joke that fate played on him.

'There's no way this is real! But what if this is...'

Holding onto that thought, he pinched his cheeks, even punching his shoulder for good measure. The slight pain he felt was all too real for it to be an illusion.

'Then, I'm back... I'm really back to the past!' joy was seen on his face.

Then tears flowed down, prompting him to kneel.

"Hic...I can finally see mom again...hic...alive and well...hic."

Then after the realization hits, he profusely apologized. Apologizing for letting down his mom and most importantly...for all the lives he's claimed, although no one could hear him, he made a solemn vow.

"My goal hasn't changed, but now that I know the true potential of my Quirk, I will do it the way mom wants it to, so that she and dad will be proud of me, not be ashamed that I'm their son. Proud that I've made such big change."

Clenching his fist, his heart gained a spark; he gained hope. Hope that his mom's life will be bright, hope that by using his experience, not as a villain, but as an experienced adult will reshape society into a safe environment for all quirk and Quirkless alike.

Standing up, Shin washed his face ridding himself of the tears and snot. He walked out of the bathroom and got dressed.

Today was that day. The day that his life turned into a living hell, the day Shin was misdiagnosed as a Quirkless person.

He walked towards the kitchen hoping to see his mother with her tired but gentle smile. But what he saw was his mother, glaring at him with an angry, disappointed face.

'What's going on?' Shin said confused about his mom's mood. Although Shin's mom had been dealing with the death of his father a year before Shin was misdiagnosed, his mother would always put up a brave front and tell the previous young Shin that she was alright.

However right now, she has none of that, instead, her face was akin to that of an active volcano, ready to explode at any time and apparently that time was right now.

"Do you know why I'm angry at you Shin?" his mother asked, her question laced with seething anger.

"N-no, mom." he stuttered.

Despite Shin having all the experience as a villain and a killer, it seems that he was still no match from his mother's wrath.

"I see, I guess that means you don't remember your previous life as the villain, Death Parade then huh?"

His eyes now wide open. At this point in time, he hadn't even awakened, let alone be known as the Villain Death Parade. So he questioned his mother.

" How do you know mom? I thought I-"

As Shin was about to finish his sentence, his mother, Kagami Sayuri, interrupted him.

"You thought you were the only one who remembers that life yes? Do you remember when you sat beside my corpse, mourning my death?"

Shin nodded.

"Well it seems you absorbed my soul at that time, turning me into my Quirk, Pyro. However it seems my Quirk had an extra ability that came with it."

Shin then asked, "What is it mom?"

"Rebirth. Like a phoenix, it seems my Quirk's other ability activated when you died. It didn't activate in my case as you absorbed me, but when you died, both of us were affected by my Quirk."

Finishing her sentence, it took Shin half a minute to digest the information and tried to alleviate his shock.

"Then, all this time, you were capable of observing me?"

"I don't know how but yes. I was able to observe you and I'm disappointed in you, Shin."

Hanging his head low, he muttered an apology.

"I'm sorry mom."

"I get it that you're sorry..." Sayuri kneeled and grabbed his shoulders and looked Shin directly into his eyes.

"...but please, don't turn into a villain. I don't want you to turn into a cold hearted killer set on vengeance. I am your mother and it is my job to be worried about you. Shin, inside you, I was desperately screaming for you to stop hurting those people and most importantly, I desperately screamed for you to stop hurting yourself...but it was to no avail, you didn't—no it was more accurate to say you couldn't hear me. So please, don't turn into that monster!"

The mood was heavy. Shin could see Sayuri, despite being angry, she also had tears flowing from her eyes. He was trembling, not because of fear, but because he was angry at himself for making his mom cry like that. Like that, tears also flowed down from his eyes.

Shin now realized just how badly he messed up. Sure, some heroes might have said something similar to him, but to Shin, they were strangers and not only that, he had lost all faith in heroes in the previous timeline so their words were worthless to him and fell to deaf ears. So to hear Sayuri say that, it was like another wake up call to Shin.

"Yes mom! I promise, I will never do it again!"

The mother-son pair hugged for a good minute before separating. Sayuri then laid it out to Shin.

"Shin, my boy. Right now I cannot trust you. All I see in you now is the villain Death Parade."

Shin's heart tightened, as if it was strangled by a python. Then Sayuri continued.

"However, my Quirk gave us a second chance. A second chance for me to protect you and guide you to a brighter path. A second chance for you to make amends for the pain and suffering you've caused. So..."

Sayuri holds her breath, inhaling and exhaling. Then, with the same gentle smile she once gave the previous young Shin, she said to Shin.

"...let's start over shall we?"

Shin, elated at Sayuri's question, he responded with the best smile he could ever give to his mother.

"Yes!"
