[Like I told you, the more sentience beings have the more they'll be tempting for you. They're releasing pheromones right now.]
"What? Like sexual?"
[No, these are different kind master. These are the kinds that make your mouth water, around them you cannot help but feel like you want to tear them to shreds and drink every ounce of their blood. But master, you have to practise restraint.]
Lilith was insane. Restraint? He couldn't even hear his surroundings through all the blood rushing into his ears. It was impossible to say no, he was starved and the food was right in front of him.
"I can't." His long white hair flipped through the wind, his eyes shone a bright red under the full moon.
[I'm not the one who decides whether a murder shouldn't add to your karma but I'm the system's eyes and ears. Believe me when I tell you, if you go through with this you'll be judged harshly and—]
Levi completely zoned out. His senses were heightened and his only concentration were the people in front of him. He could hear the calming beats of their hearts, he could see their jugular pulsating.
"I-i can do this, I c-can feed with restraint." It was as though he were a zombie.
This was the first time he'd ever felt out of control. Even with his two personalities back on earth, they had their boundaries, when one was awake the other was asleep. But this, this was different.
He could feel his every being but he could also feel that the hunger was utterly in control, not him. And if he was honest with himself, he didn't want to stop. They smelled too delicious.
He let the hunger drive him to his meals, Levi felt his body become one with the winds. It wasn't something he knew he could do but he'd turned into black smoke.
Reaching the first victim, his teeth sank deeper than he should've. It was going to kill them but he didn't care, the moment the blood touched his tongue any doubts he'd had before were long gone.
Before Lilith could interject he'd already drained the first person empty and their corpse fell onto the campfire, causing an uproar. Nobody yet knew what was going on they thought he just fell from fatigue.
"Come on men, get Leon out of there. Cecil, watch the prisoner will ya? Can't get a ransom if they run off." A stout looking man barked orders.
But Levi was already on his third victim, the way he sunk his fangs on them gave them no window to scream out. As soon as he dug deep he'd signed their death warrants.
Of course there was a way to feed without killing but the boy wasn't in his right mind, what drove him was only hunger, he didn't care whether lives were lost in the process. He felt like an apex predator, a feeling he didn't want to part with.
[Master, if you continue like this, you'll be lost forever. Who knows, you might even turn into a sin.]
Her voice sounded like a faraway echo—an anchor beckoning him back to reality. He was starting to see the carnage he'd caused in front of him, there was only one person left. It was their leader no doubt.
He wore a dumbfounded expression. Until the dark smoke that plagued their campsite concentrated in a singular spot and eventually becoming solid and a silhouette of a person.
The man knelt with one knee, examining the body nearest to him.
"I know what you are, you're a demon, I thought your kind were extinct."
Levi's eyes made the man buckle under his weight. The people in this generation had never seen a demon before but they'd heard stories of how the heroes prevailed in cleansing the world of their unholy acts.
Yet here was one, in front of him, murdered his entire entourage in a matter of seconds.
"Ahh, thanks Lilith for calling me back. That bender was a rush. Quite difficult to regain my body's control." He said licking his hands and lips.
"I swear, I promise I won't say anything to anyone."
"I know you won't."
"I'll give you money, I have a lot of it." The man begged for his life.
He was down before he even knew what was going on. Levi drained him of his blood completely.
He couldn't explain it but nothing came close to the taste of this. Nothing in his old world tasted so heavenly, it was addictive. He wasn't hungry anymore but he wanted more.
[Master you're...]
Lilith's voice was drowned by a slight snap of a twig. Levi had already made his way behind the young girl who couldn't have been older than ten. She wore her red hair into a ponytail. Her pale skin seem to shine under the moonlight.
"Please, I won't...spare...please..." Tried as she did to string the words together to make sense, she couldn't.
"Can't risk you telling anyone, sorry kid." It didn't seem like it but Levi was genuinely sorry, he'd never hurt a child even in his old life, this would be his first.
His fangs grew longer, coming closer to the neck he pierced it just a little. The second his fangs touched her blood he went rigid and fell to the side.
The girl stood, eyes closed, having accepted her fate. Minutes passed when she realised nothing was happening, she opened her eyes and looked around.
The boy was lying on the ground on his back, he seemed to be dead. The girl bolted, she didn't know the direction to her home she just knew she had to get out of there, away from the monster.
A monster that had in the most convenient of situations, saved her life.
She was kidnapped from the safe streets of her home by bandits who held her for ransom. She didn't know what she saw, she didn't understand it. And quite frankly she didn't want to.
