[And by the looks of it, Trial and error is just it's common name— something like a blanket to conceal it, it's not it's true name.]
"What is it? The name..."
[Are you kidding? How would I know? The Heavens really are favouring you though, it's up to you how much power you can bring out of it.]
"Tch. This skill was nothing, it wasn't even a legendary skill or something."
[Pfft...there you go again, thinking this is a world within the novels you've read. In Ancieru, you cultivate techniques, which are called paths. Within those paths there are small threads of techniques that your path let's you perform.
It evolves with you, right now it's in the same gate and stage as you are, what you can do with it entirely depends on your strength.]
"I still need a sun walking skill." He pouted.
[Well maybe your path could help you with that. And this is just a maybe master, don't blame me if it doesn't work.]
"It's funny that my karma didn't rise killing those men though isn't it Lilith? I thought for sure I'd experience the ripping of my soul."
[You wanted it to? They were bad men, I don't know how it works but I'm pretty sure if someone is beyond redemption it won't affect your karma. Would've been different if you'd killed that little girl though.]
"But I saved her so I think it should be affected...in a positive way? Am I being robbed here!"
Levi looked closer at his bony hand, he could see that flesh was starting to grow. It was either really slow or his senses were so delirious because of the sun he didn't know what was real.
"Maybe I should focus on working on my trial and error path then." He couldn't even hear what he was saying.
Sweaty and feeling like dying, he closed his eyes, focusing on the path he'd just been given. One was for martial arts, the other for swordsmanship. Coming up with his own techniques would be difficult but he accepted the challenge.
"I'll just use techniques from those fantasy books." He smirked, feeling drained from just talking.
Even though he was in the shade, the sun's power still affected and made him weak. He had zero idea how he'd go about creating a skill that let's him walk in the sun.
"Okay think you idiot, what protects people usually from the sun? Pigments, melanin, so then do I have to turn my milky skin to dark? I wouldn't mind."
He knew in his heart that this wouldn't be enough. Even black people in his past life got sunburnt and him being a 'vampire' was a supernatural thing that probably needed supernatural means to walk in the sun.
Levi changed his focus to the world around him the sun to be more precise, "dammit there's even two of them."
Twenty-four hours in the sun didn't seem ideal for him. He couldn't even move, it was a horrible experience but he'd had worse so he didn't complain.
"Lilith, say something smart, you always do and your easy to understand perspectives are always enlightening."
[So I'm useful to master, I'm not just a damn spy?]
"Come on! I'm dying here."
[Very sorry master, there's no single information here about this. If you succeed you'll be the first demon, in the history of Ancieru, to have become a sunwalker.]
"Sigh. Okay, a big ball of gas with extreme radiation and unbelievable solar flares. The heat so extreme that nothing can survive...but what if I can."
The centre of Gi was much more scarier he was sure of it. And he'd like to think he had conquered Gi, this should've been a piece of cake.
"UV rays, who the hell is weak to UV rays..."
Just then, something he thought was brilliant struck him. The answer was right in front of him all along. What was one thing that protected humans back on earth against UV rays?
"The ozone layer!" He said that with much vigor than he had.
It was simple enough, he just needed to create a skill that allowed for his skin to be layered with ozone properties. If he could create that—no, when he does create it the world would be his oyster.
Even though his every fibre was against working, he started. Levi didn't think he had time, he'd let that girl go who knew what she could do, if she brought people here while he was weakened he would die.
His path was trial and error so he had leeway, whatever he thought of was inscripted in his DNA and when it didn't work he scratched it out and it disappeared.
He was starting to like his path, instead of using techniques that have been passed down for generations, he was given an opportunity to create his own.
Though it was a little concerning that he wouldn't ever have the chance to pass it down to his own descendants.
"Maybe I should also consider bringing back my people? But whichever race I choose to bed, the children will be half of me and their children a quarter of that." He sighed and pushed it out of his mind.
But the thoughts pushed back in, "haa maybe I could sire some demons. In my old world, vampires could make armies with their blood you know?"
[That's impossible master. While it's like that in your old world, it's different here. You can have children if you want, but you can't turn others into demons. Your bite kills when done violently, but it's also possible to keep someone around as your feed whenever you're starving.]
He was truly reincarnated to be alone. While he didn't show it, this made him a little sad. Immortality was a long time to be spent all alone.
Days turned to weeks and those into months. He wasn't aware of the time passing, he was hard at work trying to figure this out. He'd even built himself a shelter using wood. Just something to hide from the sun while he worked.
"I-i think I've done it!"
