Chapter Seven
Rebekah's Pov
I sat still in the prison cell, my hands feeling light and heavy at the same time. I had had a lot of communion with myself and I still had a lot of thoughts. Wasn't that a funny thing?
I heard the sound of movement coming to the cell and I stood on my feet gingerly, anticipating the sight of Marbel with her basket. However, disappointment settled onto my expression when I saw merely a guard headed my way. And he didn't look any happy.
He unlocked my cell.
"What's going on?" I said, "I don't see Marbel."
"The Alpha King wants to talk to you." The guard said groggily. I ignored him at first, but when the guard started to drag me out of the prison cell, I was startled. "Outside?" I asked as he yanked me off with him.
"Alone?" I asked again. It was definitely not in my best interest that I go outside to where more than a dozen of lycans were. Apart from it being unwise, it was the most dangerous task ever.
"Are you sure you're not planning a thing against me?" I asked the guard who simply grunted as we walked down the hallway. I didn't need a written script to realize how annoying I was, to him and to other people.
I sighed, I would rate myself as, a little overbearing to all the guards. However, once we were outside the prison, I came face to face with the Alpha King. It was then I knew that the guard was not lying to me.
"Hello, mate. You look quite enthusiastic to see me." Said the Alpha King with much surety and majesty.
"You wish," I muttered under my breath. Once the guard escorting me left me alone with the Alpha King, I cleared my throat, "Why did you want to see me?"
There were other guards surrounding us but they looked very close-minded in their business. I chuckled about it to myself.
"Let us go for a walk," it was not a suggestion, it was a demand because the Alpha King started to go ahead of me.
"Hey wait up!" I had to run to catch up to him. His strides were cool and rough, yet fast and unpredictable. I guess this was what it meant to be an Alpha King.
"Why are you so fast?" I asked after I caught up to him.
It was by now that I noticed that we were on a beach and not too far ahead of us was a cloud of water washing over the surface. It was a thrilling sight. My hair rocked majestically over the wind and I felt myself smiling again. Oh what a sight.
"You're beautiful,"
I snapped out of my derealization and brought myself back to the present moment. The Alpha King held strong in front of my eyes. "I'm sorry, what?"
It wasn't that I hadn't heard him the first time, it was just that I didn't believe he could say that to me without a context.
"You're my mate, Can't I call you beautiful?"
I did not reply to that, instead, I said, "Why did you call me out here?" I watched the beach water wash over the rocky stone. It was a mighty sight and it made me tremble internally. I shivered from the movement of the wind and looked directly at the Alpha King. "Aren't you scared I'd run away?"
He chuckled, "You won't."
"I won't?" I said smugly. "Are you daring me?"
"Please don't fight me on this love, I just brought you out here for some fresh air. Just enjoy the time we're spending here together."
"Is that so?" I looked at the Alpha King who looked frustrated. However, he looked directly in front of us to the oceans which washed up the beach.
I sighed as I stood there with him. However, when I couldn't bear it any longer, I said, "You know I'd prefer to be in prison than to stand there and watch the waters sweep across rocks… with you."
"Am I that boring?" He said humorously.
"Yes."
He turned to me almost jealously. "And what could possibly be stealing all your attention in prison so bad you'd choose it over me?"
I sighed. "If you want to entertain me, do me a favor."
"Of course."
I exhaled, clasping onto the Alpha King's right arm without thinking. It was in that moment our eyes made eye contact that I realized what I'd done.
"Oh- i—" I hurriedly removed my hand from his and cleared my throat nervously. I could almost sense the humorous look on the Alpha King's face and it drove me to a state of brooding.
"You know it's okay to lean on me once in a while, mate."
"My name is Rebekah!" I snapped, not liking how he addressed me so intimately. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
He seemed to recognize that too, but he just smiled and kept staring straight ahead. "Rebekah," he mused and I looked at him pointedly to get what he was saying. "If you don't cherish even my presence, dare I ask what has been keeping you company in your prison cell?"
I was about to blurt out my truth cockily, but then I held back because I was unsure if this was supposed to be a secret between Marbel and I. The Alpha King seemed to perceive my thoughts because the next thing he said, "I'll personally see to it that every single one of your desires will be achieved as long as you agree to be my Luna." I rolled my eyes at the statement. "No matter how you say it Alpha King, my no is my no and my yes…" I trailed off.
His gaze fell to the floor and he swallowed nervously. "Perhaps this is why you're my mate, you are tough to handle."
"Speaking on tough to handle, I don't suppose you could do me a little favour now, can you?"
"I already told you I'm willing to fulfill every single one of your desires—"
"Even if I don't agree to be your Luna?"
The Alpha King sighed. "I don't suppose I can say no to you now, can I?"
I thought of if I was going to get Marbel in trouble with what I was about to say but the Alpha King stepped in front of me, closing the distance between us.
"You can say it,"
I swallowed, taken aback by the safety and surety I felt in the warmth of his eyes.
"Marbel actually… Not too long ago… she came visiting and we were talking… and she suddenly mentioned something about knitting and I got interest in it so I… well I…"
"The maid, Marbel introduced you to knitting right?"
I was dumbstruck by the amount of firmness in his voice which made me wonder if I had made the right decision to tell him.
"I…"
"That's nice," The Alpha King said warmly. I was stunned. "What?"
That was definitely not what I expected to hear from him.
"You just don't seem like the type to be engrossed in such feminine activities —"
"—Are you trying to say that I'm not womanly?"
The Alpha King's eyes widened and he seemed overwhelmingly shocked by my outburst.
"W-well, I-i mean—"
"—I'm not womanly right?" I asked the Alpha King.
He looked around and then sighed. "Rebekah, you're such an interesting person you know that?"
"Well duh, I'm a wolf compared to you lycans. Now, I'll ask you again what you meant by what you said earlier."
The Alpha King sighed. "Well, Rebekah," he looked at me sparingly, and then he said, "If you want to find out, be my Luna."
I exhaled. He just wouldn't let it go, would he? When he saw that I wouldn't deliver to his antics, he said, "It's good knitting is keeping you from boredom in the prison cell. I won't take that away from you… for now."
"Then could you please make an extra clause on that for my sake?"
The Alpha King seemed genuinely interested. "Tell me,"
"I've exhausted the thread Marbel gave me. And I told her to get me another one but she said she couldn't until next month due to some regulations on the part of the pack?"
"I'll make orders that a dozen of knitting threads be delivered to you in prison."
My eyes widened at the seriousness in the Alpha King's eyes.
"A dozen?" My jaw dropped. "I don't need that much—"
"I'll give you as much as you want, today. Right after this discussion of ours— Actually, let me inform a guard right now so I don't forget," He was about to turn away but I grabbed him. The Alpha King was surprised that I did that, but he focused his gaze onto me which made me instantly loosen my grip from his.
"I forgot to ask! What is your name?" Marbel had mentioned something to me earlier which made me realize that I didn't know the Alpha King's name.
If I was going to accept favour from him, I needed to at least know his name.
"Reagan," he answered with a warm smile.
