Chapter 16 - Chapter sixteen: Threads

Rebekah's Pov

"So you and the Alpha are close now, huh." Said Marbel giddily.

"It's not like the way you put it." I said dryly.

"Well is that so?" Marbel covered her laugh with her right hand. "Everyone kept teasing the Alpha earlier because he was reeking with your scent. We guess you are our Luna now."

"Don't be stupid!" I said heavily. "It's not as you just said, and besides… I don't even know the Alpha King's name yet so why would I move forward with him?" Rebekah looked more flabbergasted than I was on the matter.

"You mean you've had the chance of meeting Alpha severally and you didn't even think it right to ask for his name?"

I nodded. There was nothing special in that.

Marbel looked even more in awe of me. "You are different." Said she.

"Duh, I'm a werewolf." I said sarcastically.

"Now, Rebekah." Marbel and I were a little bit more acquainted now so of course she knew my name. "What really happened last night?"

"My wolf is on edge." I blurted to her. It was an immediate problem that needed urgent solving. If I was an Alpha wolf, I'd have gone mad from being unable to let my wolf outside.

"What do you mean your wolf is on edge." I sighed, but then I realized Marbel was a Lycan. I would have to explain things of my nature to her in order for my point to be gotten.

"It wants to come out…"

Marbel gave me a quizzed look and I instantly knew she wouldn't get it right away. Nor did I expect her to, I just… I sighed. She was the only one I could speak to here and when she didn't get things about me, it made me disappointed, not that it was her fault. "Anyways," I decided to start at the beginning altogether. "We werewolves are ruled by the moon…" I proceeded to tell her the deeper meaning and what it meant to be influenced by the moon. It wasn't a very easy topic for her so she asked a lot of questions and I answered them all.

"So you mean last night you were controlled by the moon to be violent and you bit the Alpha?"

I nodded, cringing at the memory. "Yes… but I feel a bit bad about it now."

Marbel looked completely manic about it to me. "You must never utter a word about this to anyone again!"

I looked at Marbel confused, "And why not?"

"Because the general rule of the lycans here is an eye for an eye. If you restlessly attack a Lycan and they end up dying. A target will be on your back."

I groaned. "How worse can it get? I already have a bloody target on my back in case you don't remember. Your people mistake me for a bloody assassin!"

"But you're not! The Alpha defended you in that way also. This is why you need to become Luna so you can show everyone their conviction about you is wrong!"

"I don't need to prove anything to anyone!" I said through gritted teeth.

"Well you're right… But how do you intend to thank the Alpha for putting up with you? Usually, any person who does this would have been smacked. And you can't do anything for him if you're stuck behind bars, now can you dear?"

I sighed. There was only problems after problems regarding this matter it was bloody annoying.

"I didn't ask him to put up with me!"

"Well you better be glad he did. And now that I can see just how horrible your patience is to some issues, what I recommend for now is that you slow your anger… I mean control your wolf. From my observation, the moon's influence from last night hasn't fully left your body yet."

"Yes it has!" I bit back at Marbel.

She sighed in an exhale. "Remember the knitting pin and thread bundle I gave you? Use it. It helps with boredom, as well as focus issues. Instead of blocking your wolf issues with your body, you may as well focus it into knitting. No one will have a bloody arm, and at the end of your conspicuous energy from the moon you get a cuddly warm sweater or bag. Isn't that so nice?"

I looked to the corner where I'd toss the items aside. Marbel noticed, and then she went to pick up the items. She dropped them onto my lap and said, "Use them!"

Then she tickled my nose as got up to her feet. "What is that for?" I said annoyedly as she picked up her basket containing now, empty meals.

"You're cute!" She said freely as she got out of my prison. I was so taken aback by her words that I couldn't come up with anything witty instantly. The prison guard came and locked my cell before escorting Marbel out. I noticed before she was fully gone, she offered me a smile and a wave. I did not reply because obviously I was still caught up in the words she spoke to me that I had no other room for thought process.

Soon after I'd calmed down, I grabbed the knitting pin and thread, mixed them up together and started knitting. At first, it started as a mathematical approach almost needing a Methodist but it soon became easier that I used it up in one day. By now I was almost finished making sweater.

However, the next morning, when a guard didn't quite hurry up to send me my meals, I knocked on the iron cell. "Hello? Is there anyone out there?"

I heard the response the size of a graveyard which made me paranoid. I kicked at the prison cell multiple times until I heard friction down the hallway and movements coming over to me.

The guard grunted as he came to face with me. "What's your problem?"

"My meal is late!" I said jovially and I had no idea why.

"So what? Bear with it as the others." The guard said grumpily.

"And please I'm making a special request to see Marbel, please make it possible."

"Marbel who?" The guard grunted in irritation.

"The maid that usually serves here."

The guard groaned and stormed out. "Is that a yes?" I asked.

"Probably." I uttered to myself.

In an hour or so, I saw Marbel holding a basket with a guard escorting her. He opened my cell and Marbel stepped in. She had on a purple velvety dress and a baby pink knitted cap on her head. She looked very precious.

"Oh that design suits you well!" I wasn't talking about the knitted cap alone.

"Thanks! I've been practicing. Now I have you on the same hobby as me, how are you feeling?"

"Never thought I'd be the one to say this but… I stood from the outfit I was sitting on and picked it up to show Marbel a half well-done baby sweater. I had no idea in the hell why I settled for that but it was just something that came to me. "Ta-da!" I gave a false surprised reaction. "How'd I do?" I asked seriously.

"Well…" Marbel placed a hand on the tip of her chin thoughtfully. "That's much better than I thought you'd make but it's not quite finished yet." She said as she moved closer to inspect the hem.

"That's why I called you here. You… are going to get me more knitting threads. I might not waste away here in prison while I'm at it… Also, keeps the brain sharp."

Marbel seemed a bit thoughtful which made me frown.

"Why are you like this?" I leaned forward. "What's so thoughtful about getting some more threads so I can knit? You brought this on me after all."

Marbel sighed. "I'm out of knitting threads."

"Then get some more!" That sounds like the way obvious thing to do.

"I can't. I can only go out once a month because of how heavy my duties are. I've already exhausted that privilege when I went knitting shopping the last time."

"So that means…"

"I can't get more knitting pins and bundles until next month."

"Reduce it to days."

"Twenty seven days." I collapsed onto the bench, feeling frail and fragile. "You only got me excited for nothing." I said, lingering in the fierce betrayal of her not having extra bundles.

Marbel seemed guilty about it too, but then she said in the cutest tone ever, "I'm sorry… I just didn't think you'd touch the knitting pin and the thread in the first place. I only offered so I didn't seem rude." That statement was a dive to my heart. Straight and direct. I didn't even know what to say to Marbel, I could only look at her while holding back a very thick grudge towards her. Like they say, unexpressed anger is very bad for the health.

"Uhm I made some chicken soup and potatoes with cranberry juice. I hope that will make up for not having some more threads…" I gave Marbel the side eye while she chuckled nervously and took a step back.
