My eyes are closed, but nothing happened…?
Wasn't the bullet just about to hit my head?
I open my eyes but the world around me seems frozen. You could almost say
'Frozen in time'.
Just what happened?
I turn around to look for Shin. He was, besides from me, the only thing that was moving.
He held his hand spread in my direction, his eyes open in shock.
Wait is it what I'm thinking… no it can't be… right?
"You fool."
He says while glancing at me. He looks… mad?
"What the hell is going on here? Didn't you say your abilities are gone?"
He escaped my glance and looks away.
I guess my suspicions were right, he lied to me. But why would he do that? And why would he reveal that he lied just over such a small thing? It's just one single death I'll be here again in only a few minutes.
"Why did you lie to me about your abilities?"
I'm mad. Incredibly mad to be more specific.
I knew that I couldn't completely trust him, but this betrayal hurts me more than I thought it could.
"I think I need to explain some things to you later, Jinsei. I owe you at least that."
I think he can see the confusion in my eyes because he starts speaking again.
"You're wrong about your ability. It's not exactly immortality."
I thought for a second that he is joking, but the sincerely look in his eyes tells me that he's not. Now he got my attention, I'm willing to listen to what he has to say.
"You're ability is far more complicated than the things you were told. Did you ever wonder why the time increased from the moment you die to the moment you wake up again?"
What does he mean? I start to walk in his direction to be able to read his facial expression better. He doesn't look sad, nor does he look mad. His expression is just neutral with maybe a hint of seriousness.
"What do you mean…?"
I ask and he pauses for a second before he begins to speak:
"You're not as immortal as you think, Jinsei.
The more you did the longer it takes for you to wake up. One day you might not even be able to wake up again."
Is there an option where I just don't believe him? The things he is saying sound so incredibly off that he must be joking, right?
I look at him again. No… He isn't joking.
If he was then he wouldn't look at me with those eyes. I would have said he almost looks slightly sad, but it's probably just his eyes mirroring the bright walls and ceilings.
"How do you know all this? And how do you know so much about me? And why would you save me then?"
I have so many questions, but he just stands there, waiting a bit before he answers.
"Do you know the consequences of knowing the future? Of all the things that will happen?"
"No I don't."
I answer with a dry undertone.
"People like me, who have the usage of time as their ability are not allowed to spill any information about the future to others. If we do, then we risk thousands of lives, including yours. I may not care about some people, but I'm not speaking of only a handful of humans and Coras, I'm speaking of millions and billions of people who's life would be on their risk. I can't afford that."
He can't be real, right? How the fuck would so many people die only because of one information?
"Ah?"
He looks at me and smiles sceptical
"You don't believe me, do you? Okay so what if I tell you that I know that everyone on this planet will die next year? What do you think will happen?"
I look at him while slowly starting to realize what he means. Humanity would be fucked if that happens. Everyone would just do whatever because they die anyway.
"Total chaos… boom! Everyone could end up killing eachother because who cares what happens when you die soon anyway? Earth would be a dead planet before the actual ending."
He says while smiling, which makes the atmosphere a bit creepy.
"But I won't die, will I?"
I ask but he holds his finger Infront of his mouth to make something like a "Its a secret" gesture.
"Psst… I can't say you dumbass."
He says with a smile on his face. Of course he doesn't say it, why would he?
"I'll ask all my questions later… Let's just go out of here I don't want to stay any longer in this fucked up place. Nothings moving anyway because of your ability, right? Let's just go."
He nods and walks Infront of me. Sometimes he checks if I'm still there, but we slowly make our way out of this place where I spent my entire life in. Soon I will be free. Everything will be fine, right?
At least that's what I thought.
