Her eyes landed on the dragon, who was sitting cross-legged a few feet away, eyes closed, his chest rising and falling in slow, deliberate breaths.

"Good morning," Yara said quietly, trying not to startle him. The dragon didn't open his eyes, but his brows twitched slightly.

"You're awake," he replied, his voice low and smooth, though tinged with a slight weariness. "I thought you might sleep longer."

"I don't sleep deeply in places like this," she murmured, sitting up and stretching her stiff limbs. "There's too much out there."

His eyes opened at that. "Too much?" he asked, his tone half-curious, half-amused.

Yara smiled wryly. "There are marsh fiends, bog serpents, blood leeches that drain your strength before you even realize they're there."

He raised an eyebrow. "You sound like you know a lot about these creatures." He remembered the way she acted when they had found some strange creatures in the Obsidian Depths.
