"She found her fated mate," I mused, a bright smile on my face as I thought about how karma was a real bitch sometimes.
"There is no such thing as fated mates," screamed the scientist, his face turning bright red as he stormed back over to my side. "There is no such thing as fate, or destiny, or a higher power. All of that is just something that some weak minded person came up with to explain what they couldn't understand."
"Not really," I answered with a shrug. "But I am sure that you wouldn't understand it. Maybe a few more years of education will help open your mind."
"I promise you, I am much smarter than you are," he assured me, clamping his hand down on my shoulder. This time, he kept the contact for longer, letting the burning pain take over my body.
