"Where the hell were you?" screeched a voice as soon as I picked up my phone. I held it away from my ear for a moment, trying to get the ringing to stop, but seeing as the woman on the other end continued to rant, there wasn't much hope of that.
"I had… issues," I said when, at last, she took a moment to breathe. For an owl shifter, she could really get it high up in the decibels when she wanted to.
"Issues?" repeated Bernie as I brought the phone back to my ear. "You had issues?"
I paused for a second… finding my fated mates, getting abducted, sold at auction, going into heat, and then having the mother of all periods counted as 'issues', right?
Meh, I was going with that.
"I've sorted them out," I added, just in case she was stressed about me having any more 'issues'.
