The duo ate and talked before deciding to check out her neighbourhood. She herself has not checked it out as she has been locked herself ever since she moved to Ogun State. They went out in tight jean trousers and purple t-shirts that says twinney boldly in the back. They rode bysicles, Jummy's own being green and Pelumi's own is purple. They went side by side often bumping into each other playfully. They came across a puff puff joint and decided to get some.
"Ah ah, oh my God, why is it so hot?" Jumoke said putting one in her mouth immediately they were given.
"Of course it is hot, when you are not even a baby." Pelumi said opting to blowing it for a few seconds before eating it.
"The exact amount of sugar, where have you been all my life?" Jummy said dramatically. She loves good puffs and buns.
"And the small edge is so crispy, I can hear the kraun, kraun in my ears. Wait don't tell me you been missing this place since you were here?" The way she said it was so vivid that one would be sure Jummy just betrayed her best friend by sleeping with her husband.
"I'm also disappointed in myself. What was I thinking, dear Pelumi, thank you for taking me out today." She replied as if in secondary school and been told to write a letter to the governor about how happy you are for constructing a non existent borehole. You have to lie and lie until 450 words of appreciation letter is complete. The not so fun part is that the lie must be believable or else you are getting zero. I'm sure secondary school essay contribute to the bad society.
"The only problem about puffs is that once they are cold it would feel like a cereal boiled in water, all soggy and irritating and disgusting and nauseating." One can't believe how some people enjoy cold puff puff. The stuff should be barned by the food agencies.
"Yuck, thinking about it makes me sad. How I wish there's an ice cream joint nearby, it would have gone well with the. The contrasting temperature would be a hit."
"Yeah one extremely hot and the other extremely cold. It would be much." Pelumi said snapping her mouth together has she said the muah. Finishing up their snacks they continues to ride forward. They passed a lot of fashion designing shops and hairdressing salon.
"The competition is sure tight here. A total of 3 shops in just one building, how are they getting customers?" Who is the person that arranged the plan or these shops, the income of this people will be very low. But then it doesn't concern me, am sure they were very satisfied when they the shops.
"Well at least you won't have to move a long time to see the best tailor around." Pelumi said with a smile. Yeah, the clothes displayed outside will tell how good a tailor is. Has they rode for a while before deciding to head back home. Then they ran into someone, well more like someone ran into them. Oops who do we have here, Jummy thought her mouth twitching.
"Hey, we met again." Well it's the Mayowa guy, his he living in this area, what are the chances of meeting again today.
"Hello, do you live in this area?" Then I would have to avoid this place.
"No I came to do something around this place. I guess I you will have to tell me your name now" Phew then I won't need to avoid this place. Pelumi looked at her with eyes that is saying 'who is that ' in a very scandalous way.
"Babe, this is the guy I met at the mall, the egg guy." Her eyes widened in realisation, yes am also shocked.
"My name is Jumoke." That's it. Whatever you need my name for.
"Wow, that's a nice name, 'ọmọ tí a jumọkẹ' you must be so precious to your parent." Well my name means 'to pamper together', so, 'omo tí a jumọkẹ' means 'the child we pamper together'.
"Yeah, I know right, she's the baby if our family". Pelumi's eyes were shining as she said that. She loves anyone that knows the depth of my name. Automatically, the judging eyes she had for him evaporated.
"I'm Mayowa, what is your name." He said turning to Pelumi.
"I'm Pelumi. You also have a nice name by the way." It's a very rare thing to hear a yoruba name without meaning. His own name means 'to bring joy'. The full name will be something like Oluwamayowa, the Oluwa in it means Lord.
"Oluwapelumi." It's official my friend has accepted him. The next thing would be her telling me that such a good guy is hard to meet, that I should not loose him to another girl, blah blah blah.
"Where are you from, you seem to know a lot of names." I said, not all parents bring their children up with the language.
"I'm from Ibadan." He said with pride evident in his eyes. He will be very troublesome, the town is very chaotic with parents barely having time to monitor their kids especially if they are average family. But he seems to have grown well.
"Ouch, you must be very stubborn, hardly will one see an Ibadan child gentle." Pelumi dramatically said it as if she was disappointed.
"Oh please, I am very gentle and easy going." He also said with a hint of smile. "I need to get going, Jumọkẹ can I have your number?" Of course he won't forget. I gave him my contact details and we waved goodbye.
"You are right for once, he is really cute." The stars in her eyes can't be mistaken. He not particularly handsome, but he has one charm that makes people find him cute.
"Yeah. I told you what happened before was a one time thing." I'm still thinking of how bad of a character judge I am.
"The 'suya mallam' should be available now." I said excitedly. Suya is a delicacy, made with either beef or pork meat. It is grilled outside with charcoal cooker to give it a special smokey flavour. And the special suya seasoning with onions and carnage, it is perfect.
"I don't know why they don't make them in the afternoon. I would love it with a bottle of coke for my lunch any day." Pelumi said as excited as I am. We rode for a few minutes before seeing the first mallam preparing to start grilling. We waited for a while before we got it.
The outside is already dark by the time they got home. They talked about the guy they met and talked about the suya they are about to eat and all different kinds of things. They both had the suya with coke. They watched movie for a while before sleeping together all curled up together in Jummy's room.
