*POV* Clay Sparks
Cassy stood with her hand out and her face scrunched up. She didn't speak as Mink tried to encourage her. "Just focus on the magic in you and pull it to the surface." She told her.
Cassy tried but nothing happened, she finally threw her hands up and shook her head, her mouth moving but nothing came out.
"She can't speak!?" I thought with surprise, so that's what the large tiger did for her. "Don't get frustrated, maybe we could spare? Maybe then they will show up."
Cassy shook her head again. "Oh why not? It could help. no?" Cassy plopped down on the ground and crossed her legs.
She closed her eyes as Mink and I watched. "What is she doing?" Mink questioned me. Cassy took deep breaths then breathed out. her eyes opened a moment later but she seemed somewhere else.
She lifted her hand and on her open palm grew a small flame, it bobbed before going out. She sat there for a while longer while we watched, Mink finally sat down across from Cassy, I stood quietly.
The large tiger appeared again stepping up behind Cassy, my heart stalled for a second before she slowly faded away. "Vivian said that meditation gets you way farther than practicing spells." Cassy spoke without any lip movement. It made sense, I guess.
"Sorry, Mink. I don't mind fighting you, I just don't wanna hurt anyone." Mink grinned. "Don't worry. I understand."
"So Monique is your giant tiger monster?" Mink clarified Cassy smiled at her. "Isn't she awesome?! She also gives me the power of lighting."
"Lighting?!" I questioned, lighting wasn't a power you commonly saw, there were four elements, fire, water, air and earth.
Lighting wasn't on that table, at least the one that was taught in schools. Cassy sighed. "It's not really my power, it's more like it's Monique's power and I use it."
I guess that made sense. Cassy glanced up at the night sky then back at me. "Do you have an idea of where the king would go to hide?" I thought for a moment. If I had then I would have already burnt it to the ground after what he did to Coral.
I shook my head. "Nope." Cassy groaned, flopping back into the long grass. "How am I supposed to chase him like I promised if I can't find him!?"
I understood her frustration but I wasn't sure I wanted her to chase him, even though she had these powers. And especially when she didn't know how to use them.
"Don't get disheartened." Mink told her, patting her leg. "We will find him, Destiny will help us with that, but right now we should focus on getting your family out of this horrible village."
Cassy laid an arm over her eyes. "It's not that bad," she mumbled in a happy tone.
"It is that bad." Mink laughed with her. "I don't see how people can live under village leaders like that. What a snob." Cassy sat, if she could laugh I felt like she totally would right now.
"Yeah, I guess it is that bad." She stood, our eyes met. She gave me a shy smile before turning to lend Mink a hand.
"We should probably go back to bed." Cassy said with a tug. Mink agreed. "Hey, if you would like, I could show you something about doing wind magic." Mink said as she joined arms with Cassy.
Cassy nodded. "That might help, but I don't need spells to do magic, not with my water magic." Mink thought for a second as we all started walking towards the living room door. "Hmm, I could do the spells then you could try and replicate it."
We entered the dugout and Cassy shut the door. "Good night Clay." She said before her and Mink left down the hall. I plopped back down onto my blanket and sighed.
I was deep in thought when the outside door opened and the old woman from before- Vivian- entered holding a soft glowing sphere.
She rummaged in her robe for a moment before shutting the door behind her when her eyes caught me staring. She jumped a little. "Oh.. huh, well you see.. is Cassy awake?" She stammered.
I gave a shake of my head and watched her closely. "Oh.. well I think it's time I left. Would you tell her I won't forget her, and if she ever needs any help she knows where to find me?"
"You sure you don't want to leave a note?" I was not sure I would remember to tell Cassy. "Oh that's a great idea." she pulled a paper from within her rope then held the glow up to it. A slight smell of burning paper filled the room before it was gone.
The light from her hand was also gone, she walked forward and handed me the paper that was rolled up tight. "I will be going now." She announced as she turned for the door. I watched her go before looking down at the still warm scroll.
My mind turned back to what Cassy had said about meditation, I had never really thought about it as a way of helping grow one's powers. I placed my legs like I had seen Cassy do and placed my hands on my knees.
I stared at the door waiting. Nothing happened. 'Maybe closing my eyes would help?' Shutting my eyes I focused on bringing my fire to the surface, like Mink had suggested to Cassy.
A slow warmth started to grow around me and I dared not open my eyes for fear that whatever was happening would stop.
My mind seemed to slip into a hazy blank space and I welcomed it, this feeling felt like no other.
