Chapter 50 - Coral is dead!

*POV* Clay Sparks

Heat surrounded me for a second before the small fire-like dragon faded away. "Clay what have you done!?" Mink was beside me in a second and I turned dazed to look up at her. She seemed concerned or maybe a little mad.

I looked around and saw the full force of the damage that I had caused, or rather my magic had caused. Who knew meditating could bring your elements to life. I wasn't going to do that ever again.

The walls were scorched and blackened with soot. "Not sure." I finally answered Mink, I wondered where Cassy had gone. She had been here a moment ago. "Come on, let's get you out of here!"

I stared at her unmoving as the warm feeling settled back inside me. I had no idea that this would have happened, I could see from the corner of my eye Cassy's face peering in at us through the open door.

The morning sunshine was filling the room. "Come on Clay before this place crumbles down on us!" Mink sounded a little annoyed. A cracking sound above us made Mink grab my arm and began yanking me towards the exit.

A large wood beam crashed to the floor as we reached the door, Cassy grabbed my other arm and they pulled me away. The dugout crumbled sending a puff of smoke and ash into the cool morning air. "Are you alright?" Cassy knelt down beside me.

I made my hand move, and brushed a dirty hand across my face clearing some of my numbness away. "I am not sure." She leaned forward and placed a hand on my knee. I was sitting on my button on the thick lawn outside Cassy's destroyed home.

"It's okay, you don't have to worry about the house." She smiled. "We were going to leave anyway." Mink came to stand above us. "I think you should be mad at him! He could have gotten us killed." Cassy looked up at her squinting in the sunlight.

"Yes, but he didn't. He didn't know that would happen." She defended. Mink sighed and plopped down beside us. "Well if you ask me, Clay, you're stupid. Whatever you did was really dumb."

I agreed with her. My hand covered Cassy's on my knee as Mink continued saying that if she had been awake she would have beat me with a stick, which made Cassy laugh.

"Cassy!" Isabella came over to us holding her baby in her arms. She bent down and handed her to Cassy, our hands parted as Cassy took her. "I have got to go talk to your father, he has returned." She told Cassy.

Cassy nodded. Then she walked away. Cassy picked up a yellowing fabric that was in the shape of a doll, wearing a blue dress with white spots. She bounced it in front of the baby.

Jamia came over to sit beside Cassy and they began talking. "Her hands are sooo small." Jamia giggled lightly brushing the tiny fingers that clenched the blanket.

The small hands reminded me of Coral, as my thought turned to her I couldn't help worrying. I stood and Cassy looked up. "I am going to go for a walk." I told them.

I entered the forest and headed for the sound of water. I reached the small brook and looked up at the blue sky. Putting my hands together I whispered the spell into them.

I opened them and smiled at the messenger bird, I reached into my pocket and pulled out the paper and pencil.

"Coral, sorry I haven't written. I heard about the twins. Be safe, see you soon." I rolled the paper up and placed it in the bird's beak. The paper instigated and I stared in shock. "No way!" I said out loud to myself. She couldn't be dead!

I tried again while the small bird watched me with glowing eyes. I placed it in its beak again and it was gone after a second. I cursed loudly and ripped another paper from my pocket again and again, the same thing happened, then I wrote a frantic message to my father, then to Destiny.

The bird took it and was gone, at least they were alive. I remembered the feel that had burned my chest weeks earlier, I had gone to my knees. It now made sense.

It had to have been him! "That blasted bastard! He will pay." I clenched my fists and glared at a tree in front of me, what was I going to do without my sister?

A tear ran down my cheek, I didn't stop it as sadness entered my soul. "I am sorry sis, I couldn't keep you safe." I whispered to the forest, before I sank to the ground and I pulled my knees to my chest.

"Why? She did nothing…" I thought to myself, as tears crested my cheeks. "Why her?!!" A twig snapped behind me but I ignored it. I heard footsteps behind me, I expected Mink or Cassy to speak or something but instead all went black.
