I told Emilia and Jocelyn that there's really a giant in there. The two raise their guards up because they know even with their strength that everyone else in the world though to be at the highest level we're all still weaker than an ordinary giant. And this is a giant who can leave this dungeon from hundreds of years ago but decided to stay.
There are two reasons that I can think of as to why the giant created that door that can only be unlocked by those who can read runes. Either to protect itself or to meet someone.
It's protecting itself from any danger so no one can open the door because they don't know how to read Runes. As for if it wants to meet someone, then the giant is waiting for someone who can read Runes and open it.
