Chapter 7 - A Consequense?

It was time for actions. It was a plan that could end up with people getting hurt or even dying. But to Yamato, it was just an experiment. Just for fun, if you will. The outcome of this experiment would determine if this world would be of interest to him.

However an unexpected event would occur, once they tried creating a spark. Just as a fire was about to start, it simply didn't. It wasn't like the wood was not dry enough or the humidity was too high. The conditions were perfectly fine, so there shouldn't be any problems. But it just didn't work. While Yuki got annoyed and desprate to start a fire more aggressively, Yamato already gave it up. Is was then when it happened, an arrow would fly towards him from behind and barely miss him, due to him dodging it barely. However he didn't completly dodge, as the tip of the arrow would create a small wound on his arm. Yuki, who was distracted with the creation of a fire and the frustration of not succeeding, got hit aswell. The moment Yamato tried to locate the attackers, he felt was body go numb. He thought the arrows must have been poisoned, which seemed to be the case since Yuki fell to the ground. She got hit directly into the shoulder, which is probably why she got unconcious first. One would think an angel would have a high tolerance of all sorts of poisons. But of course not. It would be too good to be true. Yamato felt how he slowly lost consciousness, with the last thing he saw being a few people coming from near by bushes. As his body hit the ground, his eyes closed aswell, leaving him without any sense of orientation.

It must have been hours, because once he woke up in a prison cell, he felt thirsty and hungry, implying that a long, but not that long period of time had passed. Multiple thoughts went through his head. The first thing he noticed was that his legs were chained, while his hands were free. The cell was relatively small, and had a window that was behind bars. So he was maybe in a sort of tower. Hard to see from his current angle. There where a few candles lighting the room, as it appeared to be dark outside.Yuki was no where to be seen, which was a problem. But the bigger problem was the person who stood infront of Yamato's cell. He didn't look young and had a serious expression on. He seemed to be reading something, while leaning against a wall. He seemed to be waiting for something. Probably for Yamato to wake up, which he already did. But Yamato didn't show any signs of doing so, as he remained still when he woke up and just looked around without making himself noticed. There where multiple theories he had, as to what this situation was about. Thinking to himself was about the only thing he could do right now anyway.

'Annoying... I wonder if I am in trouble.. Maybe even in danger? It sure feels less safe without Yuki around. But whatever. That guy is hard to read without starting a conversation, it seems. If I had to guess then I'd say Yuki is in a seperate cell but not too far away... If I break out and go lookfor her, finding her should be my top priority. But that is only if she's even there... and if I find her. Too many if's to risk that. I guess the best thing to do is talk to that guy and get more information.'

And so he made himself noticeable and stood up. The man closed his book and looked over to Yamato, who just stood there expressionless. The man spoke in a normal tone, though something was off with him. It was difficult to tell what. He was probably just catious talking to a prisinor.

"Since you are awake, I am here to ask you multiple questions that you'll have to answer if you wanna get out of here."

"..."

Yamato continued to just look at him, his intend unclear. Though, after a few moments of silence he turned around, looking bored and sluggish.

"Aha... Ask whatever then."

"Alright then. The first question. Who was that woman with you and who are you?"

"That were two questions..."

"..."

"Fine. My name is Yamato. Her name is Yuki."

"And? Can you tell me a bit more than your names? I'd like to know where you two came from, where you are headed and what your relationship is."

Yamato looked even more bored and laid flat on the ground now looking at the cealing of his cell. His voice was as bored as his expression.

"Why am I even here? Can't even do a camp fire around here?"

"We're next to a town build in and on trees, what do you think?"

"That I was brought here without any warning and got shot at without having done anything to provoke hostility of a lethal kind."

The man look slightly suprised by Yamato's responds. Though he remained rather professional.

"Well, apologies for that. It's just that such matters are not taken lightly around here. So if you don't mind, please answer the previous question."

"Right... Where we came from? A near by village that got destroyed recently. We where headed somewhere we could live as sadly, we are the only survivors of said destroyed village. As for my relationship with Yuki, we're friends since childhood."

"Lie, lie and another lie."

Yamato remained expressionless, still looking at the cealing while laying in his back. His voice had the same bored tone as before.

"What makes you say that I lied?"

"Don't you know about truth crystals..."

"Of course that's a thing... Never heard of that. But don't bother explaining. I think I can imagine how it works."

"I wasn't going to explain a method to use against you if you don't know how it works..."

"Hey, tell me if this is a lie. I never met Yuki before."

The man slowly got annoyed with Yamato's behaviour, and as he was about to respond, he suddenly stopped and just looked at Yamato. After a while, he spoke in a confused tone.

"It's... The truth..."

"Yay me..."

"But that dosn't make sense... You had to have met her... We literally brought you here together..."

He looked dumbfounded. It truly didn't make sense at all. Of course Yamato knew Yuki. But what was this about then? Was the truth crystal broken? Flawed? But even if, the way Yamato specificly asked something that would make the truth crystal give a flawed answer was definitely suspicious. He himself was aware of his suspicious behaviour aswell, of course. Yamato didn't really seem to care though. So the man tried to argue.

"But that dosn't prove anything. It dosn't change the situation you are in in the slightest!"

"That's true, I guess. But it does put the credibility of that so called truth crystal into question."

"I-I... Suppose so..."

"Knowing that, questioning me further seems pointless. So how about you answer some of mine?"

The man thought for a moment. He didn't really have any protocoll for this. And seeing as he had no idea what Yamato did to make the truth crystal useless, maybe the best course of action was to atleast listen to the questions Yamato had.

"You may ask your questions, though I won't promise you to answer them."

"Well, of course. You could be lying anyway. So what I wanna know is what exactly your plan here is. Also what exactly did I do wrong, in your opinion?"

"Attempted arson. For which you will have to be imprisoned for a period of time, until further is known about your background, motives and about your companion called Yuki."

"Aha. So did you question her too then? She's also imprisoned here, right?"

The man looked away for a moment, but turned back quickly.

"She... Isn't as cooperative as you."

"I am cooperative?"

"Not really."

Yamato looked away from the cealing, now at the man, still rather bored. He began thinking to himself.

'Yuki dosn't to be very nice to them, huh... sounds like she didn't tell them anything, and showed a rather hostile image. That's not too good if we wanna convince them of our innocence, if that's even posible... but I didn't show that much willingness to cooperate either, so I can't blame her for that. But switching now would be suspicious... what to do about that... actually, I'm suprised she didn't attack them on sight once she woke up. Maybe she cant for some reason.. or she isn't as emotional as I thought her to be. In any way this guy is weird. He could just torture me for information... In a medieval time like this, that should be rather common. But he just asks questions and answers mine... I wonder why.'

Yamato looked at the man a few more seconds, before saying in an understanding tone.

"Ah, I see now... I think I can imagine how that went. How about you let me talk to her?"

"Nice try. But we don't think that's a good idea."

"Why's that?"

The a man looked slightly nervous, thinking back to something but then went back to a professional self.

"... I'm afraid I won't answer that."

"Aha... Well, then I don't have any more questions."

Suprised by Yamato's sudden lack of interest in further information, he just looks at him. Then he turns around and was about to leave, when suddenly all the candles in the room went out. The sudden darkness suprising the man even more as he tried to grab a weapon from somewhere Yamato couldn't see. Though he could hear that it was on the man's right side, as he tried to extend his arm in that direction. But before he could reach anything, he would fall to the ground. Yamato not seeing much due to the darkness, just looking in the direction of the scene. He now sat up straight, not looking concerned though. He could hear someone slowly approaching, but the steps didn't sound like Yuki.
