(End of vol 1. Gotta learn how to do the vol stuff. Using the app so I got no idea. Anyways.. enjoy!)
Raven looked incredulously at her daughter. She was sure Tai wasn't a Faunus, and neither was she. She'd made the decision to delve into Tai's family tree later, but right now, she had to deal with her child. To prevent her from leaving so soon, from going out into a dangerous world. Salem, Ozpin, Mythic class Grimm and those monsters in human skin also sitting at the top of the food chain. There's a very good chance they'd try and kill Yin. Or at the very least, use her.
'Unacceptable..' Raven closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, letting go of her restraint.
Several crimson portals opened around Raven, though Yin didn't see where they led to. Raven raised her Gravity dust blade and stabbed it into a portal before releasing a massive amount of its energy into it. Yin's eyes widened as a gravity bolt flew through the portals around her Mother, beginning to pick up more and more speed as it traveled through them. Then, a portal suddenly opened above Yin.
'SHIT!' Yin used all her reaction time and speed to backflip away from the falling black bolt, even using 'Mana Hike' to stay away from the ground.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!
The ground shattered, as if a meteor had fallen to the earth. Rocks and dirt violently upheaved in a diameter spanning a kilometer. Jagged spires of rock shot out of the ground. Imbued with gravity dust, the terrain around them changed drastically from a field of reeds to a bizzarre floating field of rocks.
Yin quickly grabbed onto a floating rock spire and looked up at Raven with an impressed smirk. Raven, having half her blade's power left, dispelled her massive wings and descended down into the rocky jungle. Yin leapt off the spire and began kicking off the rocks, her serpentine eyes glancing around the now oddly quiet terrain for her Mother.
SLASH!
Yin grimaced as her aura took a hit from Raven's blade. Her Mother then wrapped her legs around Yin's neck from behind and twisted her hips, trying to smash her daughter's face into a rocky spire.
Yin grabbed her thighs in a death grip before stoking her blue flames even higher. Her head smashed into the spire but Raven was forced to go along with her, both of their bodies obliterating the floating rock into smaller pieces.
CRACK!
Raven quickly stood up, blocking a powerful punch from Yin with Omen. Though the dust blade cracked from the force and sent Raven flying back.
But that's what she wanted.
Once again, Raven disappeared into the rocky jungle, making Yin curse internally. Yin stood on the shattered piece of the spire and took a deep breath.
'This is her territory. Any big fire attacks won't be effective here. Anything too strong, and she can slip away. So.. attrition?' Yin asked herself, spotting a black flash in front of her before feeling a sense of danger behind her.
A crimson portal suddenly opened behind her, immediately grabbing her attention. But Yin felt a sudden powerful hit to her shoulder the moment she turned to face it. Raven bringing down her blade on Yin's shoulder and managing to damage her through her aura while sending Yin flying back through a nearby floating spire.
"Clever, Mother.... Hngh.. very clever.." Yin winced before quickly standing to her feet.
"Your enemies won't fight you in favorable terrain. They'll use everything, Yin. They'll kill you if you go out now." Her Mother's voice echoed, though she couldn't see her anymore.
"Phew... Now.. how did Avatar do it..?" Yin exhaled, her eyes focusing as another portal appeared in front of her.
Then another behind her. Then above her. Yin quickly ducked a stab from Omen that came from behind before rotating on her heel and kicking a large burst of blue flames into the portal behind her. Then, planting her feet, she crouched before opening her fists and thrusting her palms at the other two portals, sending bright blue flames into them as well.
Yin saw the glow nearby and smirked before quickly using 'Mana Hike' and 'Accelerate' to leap across the floating rocks. Seeing her Mother quickly move away from her previous spot, Yin smirked and thought of a plan.
"I see what you're saying. They'll use the terrain against me, right?" Yin took a deep breath before leaping high above the floating rocks.
"So all I have to do is change the terrain." Taking inspiration from a famous 'chef', Yin pointed two fingers out. Gathering a huge amount of mana, she hooked her other two fingers and created a deep blue flame between her hands and began pulling her right hand back, as if notching a bow.
Raven's expression hardened as she watched the flames take the shape of an arrow. She knew better than to underestimate magic attacks. Raven stabbed her dust blade into the floating rock she stood on, using the last half of the dust's power to gather the mass of floating rocks together. Then, breaking off the dust blade, she threw them at her falling daughter before her wings emerged once more, to prevent herself from falling.
Yin watched as the mass of floating rocks flew at her. Her right arm stretched the flaming arrow back as far as it could go. Noticing her Mother was safely out of its range, she released it.
Like a shooting star, the fire arrow descended upon the flying rocks. A violent eruption occured the moment it hit the rocks, making molten lava and debris fall from the sky as the arrow continued its trajectory. As soon as it hit the ground, it exploded in a brilliant flash of white and blue. The camp nearby and many of the towns throughout Mistral briefly thought dawn had arrived when a brilliant light lit up the horizon.
Raven felt her breath hitch as she looked at the now glassed crater which used to be the ground they fought in. Her fists clenched in defiance though, as she quickly looked up to her daughter.
Only to get blindsided by a rather vicious right hook to her face.
WHAM!
Raven felt her aura flicker from the hit. She tried to stabilize herself in the air, but Yin grabbed onto her yukata and headbutted her as they fell into the still burning crater.
SHATTER!
They both crashed into the glassed crater, rolling across the surface before Raven managed to catch herself and hit Yin across the face with her dust sheath to get her off.
"Haah... I raised a little monster.." Raven muttered, wiping the sweat off her forehead as Yin stood up.
Her aura was just barely hanging on, but she was still blazing. Her dragon scales glowing a faint purple didn't give Raven the impression she would tire out soon. Though Raven refused to stop until her aura shattered, she began to acknowledge Yin could very likely survive anything Remnant threw at her.
It was her pride and stubborn will to keep fighting that Raven had an issue with.
'I don't care about your damn pride.. You don't even have to surrender! You could just run away..' Raven bit her lip in frustration as Yin began to run at her.
She quickly sheathed her blade, switching the dust cartidge to hard light. But before she could draw it, Yin kicked the pommel of her blade, preventing her from unsheathing it before hitting Raven with an uppercut that carried her off the ground. She then used 'Mana Hike' to leap up and hit her in the back with a flying kick. Using 'Mana Hike' again, she threw a right hook at her Mother's face, only to catch one herself, both trading blows at the exact same time.
THUD!
As soon as they both hit the ground, they both got back up. Though Yin noted a dangerous light being slowly drawn by her Mother. She slid to a stop as she saw the blade unsheathed. A blade made entirely of hardlight dust, lighting up the dimming crater with its glow.
An instinctive feeling to stay away from the blade made Yin pause.
'Shit.. Hardlight? I thought only Atlas had that. Something tells me it'll hurt like a bitch if that hits me.' Yin clenched her fists as she stared at the blade warily.
"Are you finally giving up?" Raven's voice cut through her wariness.
"....No. I still have something.." Yin muttered in response.
Raven grit her teeth in frustration. "Why..? Why do you..." "But.. I won't use it on you. You could die." Yin cut her off with a deep sigh of frustration following her words.
Raven blinked several times, watching her daughter groan and scratch her head in sheer frustration.
"I don't... haaah.. Yin, stop.." Raven facepalmed.
"I only took it this far so you would learn that sometimes, you should run. At the very least.." Raven rubbed her eyes and looked at the stunned expression on her daughter's face.
"Oh.."
"'Oh..' what?" Raven inquired, taking some amusement in the awkward look on her daughter's face.
"I thought you were having as much fun as me. I was too focused on winning, I guess.." Yin looked away, while Raven debated whether to snicker or sigh.
"So, if I were an enemy. What would you have done back there?" Raven sheathed her blade and asked.
"I'd have turned into a Dragon." Yin replied honestly.
"..."
"..."
"You know what? I'm not even surprised at this point.. I was wondering what that transformation was...." Raven muttered before walking up to her daughter and pulling her into a hug.
Poff~
Yin's head hit the soft mounds on Raven's chest, nearly sinking into them.
"Stop treating me like a kid already.."
Raven snorted in amusement, only holding onto her daughter tighter. "Can't help myself. I see some of the rare good qualities I have in myself, in you. What? Do you hate it?"
Yin shook her head slightly. "I didn't say that.."
The two shared a few minutes in a comfortable silence before returning back to camp. Though as soon as they did..
"How in the fuck was that a fight!? I thought the world was ending!" Gray shouted at Mother and Daughter as she slammed her fist on the table she sat at.
"REN!!! I WANT MORE EXPLOSIONS!" Yin heard the excitable yelling of Nora somewhere close by, almost feeling the exhausted sigh from the boy in question.
"I told you. We were going to go all-out." Raven shrugged as Yin took a seat next to Shia.
"Did you win?" Shia got close and whispered.
"Stalemate.. I didn't wanna kill my Mom. I don't know how to hold back in that form." Yin answered truthfully.
"Ehehe~ Yin has a soft side." Shia giggled, until Yin grabbed her cheeks and started pulling.
"You guys are unbelievable.." Gray rubbed the bridge of her nose in resignation.
"It's over and done with, Gray. For today, let's throw a going away party. Get the alchohol and food ready for later, Gray. Yin, let's discuss where you'll head to first." Raven gestured her head toward her tent.
"You know what? Fuck it.. I'm getting hammered tonight.." Gray muttered.
Phestus cackled as he too stood up. "Just don't go tryna woo Yin yet. Gods know Raven'll skin ya alive."
Gray shivered, but acknowledged his words as she watched Yin and Shia head into Raven's tent together.
"Maybe in a few years though.. Tch.. if I don't start to sag."
While things were looking up for Yin and the Branwen camp, the massive release of magical power grabbed the attention of those deeply familiar with magic.
An old, wizened warrior mage in his white tower looked out of his window.
"Mistral..? Curious." He muttered to himself before picking up his scroll and calling one of his most trusted allies.
An old, powerful spiteful witch in her black castle closed her eyes, feeling the distant yet powerful flash of magic.
"Not a Maiden... Yet not Ozma either." She hummed thoughtfully, her finger tracing the edge of her glass of wine.
And many more had noticed. Though they were no immortal magic users, they were powerful in their own right. Growing in power throughout the years, some of these beings could rival the two immortals in strength. Even with the loss of magic, they proved there were different paths to power.
Remnant had, after all, been a world of bloody evolution.
(Where should Yin go first? No spoilers for what's there!
