Chapter 5 - An Old Hag

I have been staying with this old hag for 3 months now and she has barely taught me anything

perhaps I am unworthy of her teachings.

she orders me around like a housemaid and if I mess one thing up I get impaled on her spears.

"Old hag what kind of enjoyment do you get by torturing a nobody like me..." the old lady turned her head slowly with a furious look "DIDN'T I SAY DON'T CALL ME THAT?!" That was the last thing I heard before I had my head decapitated from it's place.

my regeneration has drastically improved to the microscopic level, little tendrils connecting my decapitated parts back into place in mere seconds now, maybe this was training but every time she impales or decapitates it, it hurts more than it should be... it oddly similar to when the old man from the magic city attacked me with his brilliant lightning, I stared back at the old hag as I did the same technique to her.

she effortlessly made my blood boil into nothing and have the effects reflect back at me having my head decapitated once again, "every vampires are knowledgeable in their own type of magic which is blood... the deeper your understanding is the more malleable the magic can be."

"what do you mean." Moss asked as he re attached his head back into place, he looked straight at the old lady's eyes with indifference and cold expressionless reaction. "your face could use some more... emotion... even simulated ones will help you blend in with the humans... I will teach you a deeper understanding of the vampire's essence and blood" she waved a hand over his face and a younger woman's face was formed over her own but her body remained as a short old woman "As you can see, I can choose where to change my appearance and or my voice by using blood"

Moss tilted his head with confusion as he stared at his pale palm, he groaned before he sat on the grass with the same glare he gave to the old woman, "so your specialty is shapeshifting and impaling people with your blood spears..." the old woman laughed "that is why I am known as the greatest huntress of this land... when the village still stood I was their huntress... I would provide them with food... and the village will provide me with more and more people to feast on..."

the woman's face was indifferent and cold but kind of longing for it once again "are you saying the whole village was your endless supple of sustenance?" the old woman's face melted back into her own as she nodded "and if you do well you will be able to do the same, there are many cults that are run by vampires and intelligent demons alike... our kind possesses incomparable charm and appearance... unless well you get cursed like I did..."

the old woman pushed me up by controlling my blood within my body upwards, I swore I floated for a moment as I began coughing up blood "mastery over your own blood is necessary before you are able to perform these techniques over someone else... I have books at my home that covers the topics such as the anatomy of humans or beast alike... except demons... the vampire queen has sworn allegiance with the demon king of the north... that their kin wont fight amongst each other..." the old lady said as she paced around moss that was standing still choking on his own blood.

Moss was dropped to the floor and let go of his blood "Now Moss... how will you handle yourself when you are faced against a stronger enemy like the ones who rules across the 4 cardinal directions?"

Moss just stared at the old lady "I have never heard of this before what do you mean?" the old lady laughed as she sat by a root of a tree "I will tell you a tale as older than the mountain and the seas... the four cardinal directions are ruled by the four kings... two of the directions were taken in by the demon kind the north and west... the light and holy incarnates have taken in the other two which are the south and east... these four sovereigns' powers are incomparable to the ones we have today... magic has rapidly regressed from... the calamity that has brought the world upon it's knees... the gods has found the arrogance of man far too unforgiveable."

"What calamity are you talking about?" Moss asked as he forms a sphere on his palm trying to condense it practicing his proficiency with the magic as he listens to the old woman's ramblings.

"the day where the sky fell to our land... the stones that fell from the sky shone a brilliant light which radiates seemingly endless amounts of mana... the human scholars exploited this and immediately waged war against the demon kind when they have scratched the surface of the stone's nature... they have inevitably won but at a cost... the crystals has began to grow within their bodies bursting out of their stomachs or chests in the middle of the war... they have been advised to take the stones from their fallen comrades since it has a higher purity and will make them less susceptible to its corruption... the demon queen of the north felt insulted by the human's arrogance... this is where the true regression began..." the old lady said as she laid back on the tree behind her.

"what do you mean by the regression began." Moss asked curiously "the queen stepped into the war her aura alone brought everything to it's knees the wind, the trees, the mountains that towers around them, the humans gets crushed by her presence, she was enraged then she realized the two other sovereigns of light are at the back lane, in a blink of an eye the sovereign's lackeys were dissolved into ashes, she stood in front of the two sovereign of light, it was a battle that made a great impact in this world... the demon queen died in the battle but the olden sovereign has also succumbed with her." Moss tilted his head in confusion before he laid down on the grass.

"but wouldn't that make the demon queen the strongest being in the world? if she were still alive?" Moss asked, but the old lady laughed as she looked at the boy.

"alive and well... though it's merely but a fragment of her olden self... the ancients are long dead... the ancient demon queen of the north is now known as Asphodel the vampire queen of the west... one of her conscious fragments were assumed to be ruling over a void... but the other fragments we have no idea if they are conscious or are acting as a catalyst for magic..."

"what happens if all the fragments were to be made into one piece again?" Moss asked

"the world will cease to exist..."

The sun has began to set over the horizon as the leaves began to yellow.

"so do I have to hunt down beast for our dinner again?" Moss asked in an annoyed tone, the old lady sipped on her tea with a smirk "of course... I'll be expecting you in 15 minutes now go..."

Moss groaned as he opened the door with a loud creak, the old lady chuckled before she mumbled under her breath "you remind me of her when she was younger." Moss just looked back before he began running deep into the forest with his bow and quiver on his back and a black cloak over his head camouflaging him in the surroundings.

he waited patiently over a branch as he heard twigs and branches snapping from a distance, his vision at night was just as good as it was in the day, he saw the beast that was influenced with mana, it was much larger any type of beast of the forest, he dropped from the tree branch as he slowly approached the giant boar he slowly pulled back his bow string as it formed an arrow made out of his black blood, he shot the arrow and it pierced through the boar's head, killing it almost immediately.

Moss stood up from the bush he was hiding from as he approached the giant boar, the grass scrunches up from his steps he stretched out his hand and had ropes made out of blood wrapped around the boar as it wraps around his hand, he grew his pair of wings made out of blood but before he even took off, he heard someone clapping from behind him, Moss turned to his back and saw a man with white hair and red eyes not older than him physically, he tilted his head in confusion.

he stared at the man with animosity growling almost even as he became stand-offish with the man "No need to be so wary young vamp... I'm similar to you in more ways than you can imagine... I'm a demon from the main capital and I have came here to deliver a message to your owner..."

Moss let go of the giant boar before he lunged at the man in front of him, the man effortlessly leapt away from him, Moss crashed into the ground as spears a wide area around him had spears shooting out of the ground, "tell me who you are!" Moss demanded, he shot himself up in the air to where the white haired man was, he grabbed the air as a sword made out of his blood formed, he slashed to where the man was standing but the white haired man dodged everything effortlessly, the sword slowly became unstable and began melting in his hand whilst he pants catching his breath.

"calm down young vampire I am Morten a messenger of the norther demon capital... I have only come to send a message... but! I wont mind putting you into your place." the man had a smirk on his face before he threw himself towards Moss, Moss failed to react in time, and in a blink of an eye the man had Moss' head off of it's place "you haven't been trained for long have you?"

Morten placed Moss' head back to where it belongs as he reached out his hand "I am Morten of the messenger's guild! and I assume you are Madame Annete's disciple?" Moss shrugged as he rolled his eyes before grabbing the dead boar up again before re-growing back his wings as he took off to the sky, Morten was flying with a pair of batwings that looked way too similar to a real bat's

"so what is your message for my master?" Moss asked with a solemn tone

"Your owner will find out soon no need to rush." Morten said with a smirk as he stare at Moss with an almost hateful glare.
