Chereads / Moss: The adventures of an unprincipled vampire / Chapter 7 - Ashes of the sparks and flames

Chapter 7 - Ashes of the sparks and flames

The day has broken over the horizon as it paints the sky a bright hue of orange contrasting the now wilting leaves from the trees whilst the frost of the season slowly transitions, the rays of the sun permeates through the soft grass outside the cave whilst the glow contrasts the crevices of the cave, the soft blows of the cold wind wavers the blaze of the campfire that sits in the middle of the settlement.

Moss sat on the edge of the room trying to avoid the gazes of the people outside, Morten sat by the entry of the camp, a pair of footsteps can be heard walking towards their camp, Morten took a peek outside and saw the leader of the group was already standing in front.

Morten stood up as he greeted the man casually, the leader paid no mind to pleasantries but has stated that their time is up and must go "Can we stay 8 more hours my... cousin... Isn't doing so well at the moment... I wont be able to afford the cleric's treatment if anything happens to him..." the leader pointed out the exit of the cave "Out now... we wont be providing more for people like you..."

Morten was taken aback from the other's response before he asked "What... do you mean by that? what do you mean by people like you?"

The leader rolled his eyes "People with green hair? or brown hair and green eyes... people like you are supposed to be buried in the ground right now..." Morten got pissed but Moss inside was controlling his rage and not too soon it may explode.

"I-I see... well we'll see ourselves out now" Morten said as he grabbed Moss by the wrist "Don't do anything stupid Moss... I beg of you." the green haired boy rolled his eyes away from the Leader before the two even managed to step out of the cave, A shot of condensed fireball was shot at the two... sending them flying out

the priest with the green hair looked indifferent in the altercation.

"And stay out you stupid hicks!"

Morten was sitting by a tree with an annoyed look but Moss was laying on the floor with visible burn injuries from the sudden attack, he coughed up smoke before he stood up shakily, he turned to Morten with an annoyed look "You didn't warn me about that..." he said with his eyebrows furrows looking absolutely annoyed, but in almost an instant his wounds healed except for his clothes.

"I'm sorry but doesn't seem to be my problem anyways what's the point of warning a shitty person like you? I want you dead even..." Morten gave the snarky remark with a wide grin over his face.

"I need a change of clothes..." Moss said as he stared at himself, Morten rubbed his chin thinking deeply on where they can buy a new set of wares "The nearest town is 15 kilometers I believe, you should be able to survive for that long..."

Moss remained silent and expressionless, Morten rubbed the back of his head trying not to punch Moss in the face "let's just get going already."

the soft brisk of the frost touched air has blown through the two that was walking down the path towards the next town over "we will be... settling down this path for a couple of days if you don't like it then... maybe don't just lunge at human settlements that you see."

Moss groaned in annoyance before he nodded.

several hours passed the sun has risen over the thick forest

"We can continue the pace like this as long as we don't reach a point where the sun will hit us directly..." Moss exclaimed before turning to his companion "Morten..." Morten then looked at the other with a questioning look "You should kill yourself..." Moss said before flipping him off with the middle finger.

Morten nodded with a smile "Maybe you should consider your own advice..." the young incubus said with a monotonous voice, The two continued their pace down the thicket of the forest, an exit can be found at the end of the path but the sun was still out...

"I suggest we start covering more land by flying..." Moss said with the same expressionless voice, Morten laughed before he patted the other at the back "You finally suggested something smart for once!"

"I would have done it much earlier but the sun is out... not like your type of beasts would understand that I will burn up in the sun..." Moss gave the other a snarky remark before he sat down under a much bigger tree compared to the others, Morten sighed as he stepped out under the sun.

"I refuse to get burnt..." Moss opened his palm as a small chemtrail formed over his hand that seemed to warp space around it, a faint light became brighter and brighter and it flashed Moss in an instant but the grimoire that he was once holding is now floating above his hand, it flips through its pages by itself, I closed my palm the same black hole appeared creating a chemtrail warping the space around it as it absorbs the book back into it's space.

"quite nifty having this power around but I was never well versed in magic..." Moss said as he turned his head on Morten who was just laying down on the grass in front of his bathing on the sunlight as the sky paints itself with an orange hue, the sounds of the nature flocking and crashing against each other like a messed up orchestra of the old.

"I think anything will suit a guy like you considering the fact that you fight like a mad man... not saying you're good I'm just saying that you're gonna die quickly anyways..." Moss pondered on the other's words as he made a fist with his left hand just staring at it...

"Perhaps I'm too hasty with the way I act but the frenzy isn't something I can just ignore..." Morten looked at Moss with indifference in his eyes "Haven't the old lady written anything on how to deal with that?"

Moss' eyes lit up as he opened his palm the space warped and a bright flash of light manifested the book into his hand in a blink of an eye "whoa cool..." Morten exclaimed, the book opened automatically to the page he needs to be in.

'well hello there child I know you will be needing this knowledge sooner or later

in order for you to dilute your anger you must first satiate your hunger

if one is not done then the other cannot be broken

you like my poem? heh... I thought bout it hard... if you need me you can go-'

the page was blotted out the specific part on how to get back to her, the green haired boy rubbed the back of his head as he looked around

"how much more do I need to eat in order for me to be able to control this frenzy?" the book glowed and added a new page to it's manuscript, the page glowing slowly fell into place inside the book as it spread itself out for the boy to read.

'you will need 1000 souls'

'19/1000'

"It says here I have consumed 19 out of 1000 already how does it know that?" Morten groaned "Maybe cause I tethered the book directly to your heart... anyways 1000 is just a ludicrous amount... what kind of vampire even turned you? why the hell do you need this much?"

Moss shrugged as he closed the book before it warped itself back into the void in a blink of an eye.

"Having a grimoire is cool right?" Morten asked but Moss just replied with a simple "Yeah I guess..." with a small smirk on his face as if to taunt the other which in turn Morten ignored.

The night has dawned upon the land of Eplea as the night's veil wrapped around tightly leading to more mysteries than answers as it roams the world.

the undead has started to emerge from the shadows of the forest and unlike Morten and Moss these things will only consider the ones that look like them as allies.

Moss clicked his tongue as he rolled away from the forest "I am not in the mood to subjugate the lich within that forest."

Morten chuckled "Well it is Madame Annete's Lich so you shouldn't really touch it other wise she will come for you personally..."

"Let's just go already..." Moss said as he began to lead the way, Morten let him as he stare at his compass just telling Moss in which path to turn, as they have traversed three kilometers in an hour.

"Moss stop I feel something different here..." Moss turned as he was about to open his mouth he felt the heaviest aura he had felt "T-this is familiar..."

Moss got stunned into place, Morten clicked his tongue as he kicked moss on the stomach up in the air as they both began flying "What the hell was that pressure?!" Moss was flying as well to the direction they were heading "That lightning demon that killed me once... I know that aura all too well..."

Morten's eyes widened as he stared at the ground and back at Moss "It killed you? don't you have like ridiculous amount of healing?" Moss remained silent as they landed on tall tree 10 kilometers left from where they are supposed to be "My mana wont hold up longer if we fly further... and that guy... what is he doing here..." Moss said with a shaky voice as Morten licked his thumb before writing runic symbols on the tree's trunk.

"this should help..." Morten clicked his tongue as he felt the archers saw them already, a lightning bolt shot through Moss's chest making him cough out blood but by some miracle it didn't destroyed his heart completely "ENOUGH WE ARE GETTING OUT OF HERE!" Morten carried moss on his shoulder as he healed, he passed out from the shock of the pain.

Morten saw the old man with a group of 5 lightning archers behind him... was that the guy Moss was talking about? he thought to himself before using up all of his energy and mana to fly as far away as possible.

he flew quite far as he crashed onto the grassy plains of nowhere, his compass missing and has no way of telling where they are since flying means suicide when they are being actively pursued, Morten passed out on the grass as to when Moss just gained consciousness.

he was still disheveled but carried Morten on his shoulder in turn "I'll repay your kindness... why not become my kin once I have grown stronger..." he said with a smirk but the unconscious Morten failed to react or reply, Moss groaned as he continued walking towards nowhere.

"I need to befriend humans in order to learn from them more? but I was once human... how do I not know these things..." the grimoire appeared in front of moss in a flash of light as it opened to a new page that fell into place

'You turning into a blood kin isn't as simple as the other's you have undergone complete metamorphosis in which your mind now acts in a way you will not be able to fathom at all as a human that you were before...'

Moss cant help but to just sigh in disappointment, he bit his thumb as he let blood drip on the floor, the blood connected to his feet as it slowly transforms his appearance to someone similar looking to Morten's disguise... a convenient disguise to fool people that they are siblings escaping from their slave master...

he looked and settled to a nearby cave for the mean time... setting up some leaves and wood for their temporary shelter.

he let the other rest in that shelter as he stayed out to look out for potential dangers, "I wish we could reach our destination already..." but inside he was thinking whether the old man who wields lightning realized that he was still alive and how...

"the adventurers from earlier?" Moss thought to himself as he gritted his teeth before slamming his fist against a wall creating huge cracks and a small crater where his fist landed.

he calmed himself down as he sat by the entrance of the cave still looking out in complete silence "I wonder if this adventure will lead to something good..."

"maybe it will..." Morten said shakily as he walked with a limp "I'm just a bit exhausted I got lucky I didn't got hit by the arrows..." he followed as to where Moss just rolled his eyes before he smirked "I think I should be the one you're glad that is still alive..."

"welcome back then Moss..." he said with an expressionless face as if to taunt the other

"shall we continue our journey to the village tomorrow?" Moss asked in which Morten nodded to reply.
