Chapter 689 - Chapter 472 When Shiller Finds the New Street Lamp (Part 1)_1

The location of Arkham Mental Hospital is rather remote. When Arkham first chose the site for this hospital, it was mainly to prevent dangerous patients from escaping easily due to subpar security measures. This way, the isolated location increased the difficulty of escape.

However, after Shiller became the chief doctor here, he understood one principle: to get rich, one must first build roads.

Therefore, with the mayor's approval, construction began on a main road leading to Arkham Mental Hospital, and by the end of last year, it was already open to traffic.

The funding for this road mainly came from the voluntary donations of the patients here. After all, the winding and uneven dirt roads made little allowance for their long limousines and modified sports cars to operate. But since the main road was built, they could even stay in the hospital every weekend.

At this moment, the uniquely designed Batmobile is speeding along the main road. The roar of the engine reverberates far into the woods along the road, like the wailing of a dormant beast in the dead of night.

While Batman was rushing Joker, whom he had knocked unconscious, to Arkham Mental Hospital, inside the hospital, in the pitch-black hallway, a faint light flickered, reflecting a bizarre green on the polished stone floor.

A window suddenly opened with a "click", and the cold wind howled and came rushing in. When it passed through the dark hallway, it let out a ghostly moan.

At that moment, a "boom" was heard, and a door in the hallway was opened, and a burly man with a thick beard walked out, shouting,

"What the fuck is all the moaning about? If you want to get high, go to the second floor, stop groaning around here!"

After he finished yelling, he realized that there was actually no one in the hallway. He went to the window, spat, muttered angrily, and shut the window.

Just then, a skinny man walked out from inside the door and asked, "What happened? They have started another game, we're waiting for you, hurry up."

"Don't even get me started, those crazy nurses didn't check properly before clocking out, the window was not shut well, and the wind blew it open, I thought some doper was screaming in the hallway."

Big Beard slapped his hands, went inside and slammed the door shut. The light leaking from the crevice of the door is all that remained in the hallway.

Inside the room, several people were playing cards. Normally, all patients should stay in their rooms during non-activity hours, but they have a good relationship with the nurses, and a wink is enough when they check the rooms at night. They were deeply engrossed in the card game.

But then, the whimpering sound of the wind echoed in the hallway again. Big Beard impatiently threw down his cards, stood up and said, "Sooner or later, I'm gonna get a hammer and nail that window shut..."

Walking to the door, he opened it rudely. But the moment he opened the door, he caught a glimpse of a strange light beam flickering from the corner of the hallway.

Big Beard squinted at the dark corridor, hesitated for a moment, but still came back in, and said to his buddies, "Get me a flashlight and that shotgun we brought in."

"What the hell are you up to? Bringing a gun just to close a window?"

The gang ridiculed Big Beard for being a coward. Big Beard snorted, then walked out of the room with the gun.

He walked with caution towards the corner of the hallway with the shotgun at the ready. As he approached the staircase, he saw a ghost glowing in green hovering on the stairs.

The ghost looked like an old man, with a gloomy face and grimacing features. It was emitting a bizarre green light all over. Seeing Big Beard with the gun, it let out a shriek and lunged at him.

Big Beard was astounded at first, he then raised the shotgun and fired. The bullet passed right through the ghost without harming it. Big Beard fired again, but it still didn't harm the ghost.

The ghost sneered and moved closer to Big Beard. At this moment, a series of loud "bang, bang, bang" sounds were heard, and all the doors in the hallway were kicked open. Dozens of burly men rushed out with guns.

The man in the lead had a buzzcut, was wearing a sleeveless shirt, and was covered in tattoos. He shouted in a Texas accent, "What's going on? Who the fuck is shooting? Do you have a death wish?"

Big Beard took a step back, slapped the barrel of his gun, spat, and said, "Get over here! There's a ghost!"

"A ghost? Fisherman, did you pop too many pills again? There can't be... Holy shit! There really is a ghost!! Come out quickly! There's a ghost!!!"

"Shoot it now! Bang! Bang! No... don't use a shotgun, that thing's useless!"

"Automatic weapons! Does anyone have automatics? ... Quit sleeping! Go upstairs, wake up the bosses, the hospital is haunted!"

Suddenly, bullets were flying everywhere. The mobsters in the hallway started running around, setting up a crossfire. Shotguns, single-shot rifles, mini-grenades and even rocket launchers were all being used.

Those without guns quickly brought out cabinets, tables, and chairs from the rooms. In less than a minute, a multilayered defensive system was set up. The gunmen hid behind the defense shields at various levels, the gun muzzles flashed non-stop, like a flower blooming in sequence.
