Chapter 690 - Chapter 472: When Shiller Found the New Street Lamp (Part 1)_2

At the end of the corridor, in a miscellaneous room, cleaning supplies were piled in one corner, with four or five small beds placed in the room. A boy with a face full of freckles suddenly jumped up from the bed. He said, "Did you hear that? Was that gunfire?"

"My God, who dares to shoot in here? Do they want to die?"

"What's going on? What's going on?"

"Go and check!"

The other children who were awakened all sat up and then opened the door a crack, peeking out.

At this moment, Big Beard, who had already withdrawn to the rear of the line, waved his hand at a few others and said, "Quick, go upstairs! Inform the bosses that the third floor is haunted, we need firepower support!"

"Haunted?"

The little boy was initially startled but quickly squeezed out from the door gap with agility. He ran up the stairs with a "thump, thump, thump", and soon reached the fifth floor.

By this time, the gunfire from the third floor had already come over. Mafia bosses dressed in expensive silk pajamas sleepily opened their doors, looking at each other in the corridor, clueless about what was happening downstairs.

When the little boy emerged from the stairwell, he nearly bumped into a mob boss who was about to go downstairs. After recognizing who it was, he quickly apologized, "Ah! Sorry, sir, I'm here to deliver a message, did I bump into you?"

"No problem, what's happening downstairs? Sounds like a fight is breaking out?"

"Well, Fisherman from Hell's South Section sent me here to deliver a message. He says, the third floor is haunted, um ... he needs firepower support."

"Haunted?" The mob boss squinted his eyes, seeming slightly puzzled.

However, hearing the increasingly intensive gunshots from downstairs, he quickly realized this was no prank. He went to the center of the corridor, waved at the others, and they gathered.

As the little boy ran back and forth among the floors, windows of the Arkham Asylum building were being lit up one after another. Before long, windows on the third, fourth, and fifth floors were nearly all lit up.

Batman, who just drove the Batmobile into the ramp, gradually reduced his speed. He opened the car door, looking at the suddenly illuminated Arkham Building, squinting his eyes.

However, as he wondered about what exactly happened inside the Arkham Asylum, he didn't notice the Joker, whom he threw on the back seat with blood all over his face, slowly opening his eyes and revealing a cunning smile.

Along Batman's line of sight, apart from the alreadylit windows on the third, fourth, and fifth floors, only a room on the seventh floor remained lit.

At this time, Jonathan, Hugo, and Constantine were inside that room, frowning at an image playing on a Magic Screen.

Constantine said helplessly, "I said it before, this is definitely not going to work. My poor pet is close to being killed."

"Ghosts can be shot too?" Hugo looked at Constantine and asked contemptuously.

"Ghosts can't be shot, bullets have no lethal effect on them, but they fear the flashes of light and heat from gunfire. Both light and heat are lethal for ghosts." Constantine sighed and explained.

Their plan was rather meticulous. They initially planned to work their way down from the top floors, opening the doors of each ward and releasing all the patients.

Generally, the higher the floor, the more dangerous the patients kept there. Therefore, releasing the dangerous patients first to hunt down those on the lower floors could stir up bigger chaos and provoke their viciousness.

The method involved Constantine controlling the ghosts to retrieve the keys, and then opening the doors.

The process of fetching the keys went smoothly, and Constantine's skill at manipulating ghosts was indeed good. Without alarming anyone, he successfully retrieved the keys and opened the doors on the third, fourth, and fifth floors.

But after opening the doors, they came across one problem: no one paid any attention to them.

Because Constantine had created a Magic Screen that could follow the perspective of the ghosts, they could clearly see that the ghosts did not attempt to hide their actions when opening the doors, and the sound of unlocking the doors was very loud. Yet, it seemed like the patients did not wake up at all.

Hugo suspected that maybe the patients here had been given excessive amounts of sedatives, so they slept deeply at night.

So, Hugo, who happened to be a psychologist, had Constantine manipulate the ghosts to break the glass, creating a sharp noise. Then, he let the cold wind outside blow in, causing a change in temperature, and had the ghosts flash constantly, creating abrupt changes in light.

All these stimuli should have been enough to disrupt the sleeping patients. But after fussing about on their own for quite some time, nobody came out.

In the end, Hugo suggested a plan: letting Constantine's ghost expose itself intentionally to attract people.

But soon, they discovered that Gotham was indeed the most dangerous city in the world. Just as they had anticipated, these patients were extremely dangerous. Upon encountering a ghost, their first response was not to scream and run away, but to exorcise the ghost physically.

The ghost that Constantine had placed on the third floor was already cornered, and the continuous flashes, loud noises, explosions, and heat, were gradually dimming its light.

"This cannot go on; we need to draw them outside. Quick! Let the ghost run outside!" Hugo said loudly.

All Constantine could do was to raise his hands glowing with light. But before he could move, a pure white flash suddenly lit up the Magic Screen. The sudden light forced all three of them to cover their eyes.

"A flashbang? Where did they get military-grade flashbangs?!" Hugo yelled while covering his eyes.

As the light dimmed, they had just tried to open their eyes when another flashbang went off. Squinting his tearing eyes, Constantine shut down the screen with a wave of his hand.

"Where in the hell did these patients get such abundant firepower?" Hugo yelled cluelessly.

"Abundant? Why would you think it is abundant?!" yelled Constantine, who had also experienced life on the streets of Gotham.

"If this isn't abundant, then what is..."

"BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!'"

Just as Batman had driven to the foot of Arkham Mental Hospital, he watched in horror as a corner of the building was blown up in a violent explosion.

Sensing danger, Batman quickly turned the steering wheel to drive in another direction. But at that moment, Joker Jack, who was in the back seat, leapt up and choked Batman from behind.

Batman struggled vigorously, his hands leaving the steering wheel. The out-of-control vehicle spun out and crashed into the steps of the hospital entrance.

At this moment, several rockets flew out of a window above with a "whoosh" and crashed into the rear of the Batmobile with a series of "bangs".

The entire Batmobile was lifted into the air by the powerful shockwaves from the explosions. After spinning freely in mid-air for two and a half turns, it crashed into the entrance of Arkham Mental Hospital with a "thud".
