Chapter 3103 - Chapter 2255: Late Autumn in The Golden City (Part 8)_1

Bruce woke up groggily from his sleep, somewhat surprised to find Selina, who had been sleeping next to him, gone. Suddenly a foot poked out from under the blanket.

Bruce truly didn't know how to sleep in a way that didn't result in him turning completely around in the bed, especially when there was already one person lying there. He compared it to performing acrobatics.

Although Selina could indeed perform acrobatics, that didn't mean she wanted to show her skills off in this respect. Even though Selina was quite restless in her sleep before, often complaining about Bruce pressing on her hair, they could still occasionally enjoy a sweet and loving atmosphere in the early morning.

But recently, not to mention the emotional atmosphere, every morning upon waking, Bruce would have to guess which side of the bed Selina's head was pointing towards. One thing was certain, it was never on his side.

Bruce felt it was necessary to have a talk with Selina about this. Therefore, he pulled back Selina's blanket, causing her to squint and look at him with confusion in sleep-colored eyes.

"What's wrong, darling?" Selina turned over with an arm draped on Bruce's leg and mumbled back to sleep.

Bruce glanced at the time, knowing that they were supposed to wake up early today. So he sat up, inadvertently waking up Selina again.

This time, Selina fully woke up. But that didn't mean she was without complaints. She turned halfway, propped her elbow on the edge of the bed, and looked at Bruce with a glare expressing her dissatisfaction.

"Darling, I don't think our bed is a great stage for performances, what do you think?"

Selina paused for a second. It wasn't until now that she regained her sense of direction and realized where and in which position she was.

Bruce stood up and turned to face the same direction as Selina, and fell onto the bed. He didn't feel anything unusual about this particular direction.

"Are you asking me why I want to sleep facing this way?" Selina tilted her head and said: "I don't know, I just find it more comfortable sleeping this way."

"But you didn't think so before."

"That's correct, but you better not say anything about 'women being fickle'. My body won't lie to me, the sensitivity of it is beyond your imagination."

Bruce moved closer, his upper body pressing down on Selina's. He nestled his head into her neck and whispered: "I think it's within my imagination, darling."

Selina somewhat disdainfully pushed him away and said: "If you must flirt in the morning, do it earlier. Don't forget, we're going shopping today — I need to match a dress for my newest Opal necklace."

Bruce didn't exactly pull away. Instead, he half-lay on Selina, his hand around her waist. In this position, they began to speculate why Selina wanted to turn over and sleep.

"When we fall asleep, our positions are normal. This means it's not my idea to turn over," Selina said, with her fist clenched under her chin: "Did you know? I can glide freely across Gotham's sky, in large part thanks to my extraordinary balance."

"It's a self-praise, but I can maintain my balance in almost all situations - even when I lose consciousness. Therefore, it is very likely that my body is warning me: sleeping with the head towards the headboard is uncomfortable, it doesn't feel balanced."

Bruce slightly frowned. He seemed to have thought of something, so he withdrew his hand and sat up. Then he bent over to look under the bed.

"You're right, darling, have a look."

Now somewhat interested, Selina rolled over and got out of bed to come to the other side. Bruce and Selina looked at each other from under the bed.

"What's wrong?" Selina surveyed under the bed and found nothing.

Bruce extended a hand to point at the underside of the head of the bed. only then did Selina notice that the central beam supporting the head of the bed had sunk in.

"It isn't strange for the wood to have been compromised over the years," Bruce stood up gracefully and said: "Now our bed is higher at the foot and lower at the head, this doesn't comply with human sleep ergonomics. It could very well cause the blood to rush excessively to the head, resulting in dizziness and insomnia."

"So it's to maintain balance that my body wanted to turn over." Selina also stood up, planting her hands on her hips at the other side of the bed: "So what do we do? Buy a new bed?"

"I think we can repair it, we just need to lift it from below," Bruce said, feeling his chin: "But I'm not sure if we can find suitable sleepers, maybe we should check out the crafts market."

"Look, I absolutely don't mean to complain about the environment here, but the number of antiques and artifacts in this room is a bit beyond imagination. Neither you nor your butler are professional conservators; have you ever considered a thorough overhaul?"

"Actually, we're considering buying a new house."

"Then go see some, why not take action?"

Bruce sat back down at the side of the bed with a smile and looked at Selina: "Are you eager to move into a new house?"

"It's YOUR new house, not mine."

Selina also sat down on her side of the bed. As Bruce moved closer, Selina turned to peck his cheek, saying: "Has anyone ever told you, darling, you have a nesting instinct?"

"What do you mean?"

"It's a strange characteristic of love. Some couples are like migratory birds, with expectations in love to see more new things and explore a wider world together. Some others prefer to nest, enjoying a cozy and peaceful domestic life."

"So you're the first kind?"

"Apparently, I'm not a bird. Sometimes I get a whim to go out and see the world, maybe have an adventure for a month, then I get tired and stay home for half a year, not leaving the house for anything more than basic necessities."

"Like a cat?"

"Like a cat."

"Have you ever thought about a warm and cozy nest that perfectly fits your liking?"

Selina laughed and said, "If you describe your mansion like this, would your butler agree?"

"Actually, this is indeed my den, but I think the term is too cold and neutral for you."

"And the term 'home' is too heavy for me."

"The same for me."

"But it's more than just a house." Selina leaned against the head of the bed, reached with her toes in a daring manner to hook her slippers at the edge of the bed, and said, "In fact, when you talked about buying a new house, all sorts of imaginations popped up in my mind."

"Tell me about it."

"They are messy, mostly unorganized. Let me sort them out before I share with you. What I want to say is, I don't usually have imaginations about houses. As long as there is a bed, it's enough."

"Perhaps it's due to my deprived childhood, but more so, because I am not the kind of person who seeks a sense of security from a home."

"You tend to be yourself rather than a tenant, and you don't need a home to comfort you."

"Exactly. But I did think about some things." Selina ran her fingers through her thick and dense hair and said, "Some arrangements of furniture, lighting, they are not determined by my preferences on colors or styles, because I have no concept about them."

"What is it then?"

"How we could live more comfortably sharing the same room. I imagine we'd have a huge sofa, one side with comfy seats, and the other with a chaise longue and a footstool. Because you usually like sitting on them, and I like to throw myself in completely. This will fulfill both our needs."

"There will be a small lamp on it, not those extremely luxurious chandeliers, just like the one in the middle of Wayne Manor now. It's too bright. I noticed on more than one occasion that you find it blinding, and I feel the same way."

Selina spread her arms and said, "As I said, it's a real hotchpotch, because obviously, you cannot have a living room like this. You need a great deal of space for wine cabinets and display cases, and you need to keep them brilliantly lit, magnificently furnished."

"Please don't say something like you'd do it for me. This isn't even a suggestion. It'll probably take about ten thousand years to ferment before it becomes practically usable."

But Bruce listened very seriously and pondered, even falling silent for a moment. Selina leaned in and asked, "You aren't really considering decorating your living room like normal people, are you? You know if a mansion has just a small light, it would make it look like a haunted house, right?"

"I think your understanding of the mansion might be slightly off." Bruce gestured with his hand in a small motion, then said, "Actually, Wayne Manor is an atypical mansion. This place is more like a townhouse with only one owner."

Selina looked puzzled.

"Do you know the difference between a mansion and a villa?" Bruce asked.

"All I know is that they both have one thing in common, I can't afford either, so I'm unlikely to understand the difference between them."

"A very efficient woman. But actually, a villa is a single dwelling. Although many modern villas have become surprisingly large, they remain single buildings, both in design and structure."

"A mansion, on the other hand, is a complex of buildings. It's like dividing the functions into separate areas and putting them in different buildings: reception area, living area, entertainment area, viewing area."

"But in Wayne Manor, all these things are in one building." Selina looked out the window and said, "There's no room we have to go outside to get to, at most the corridors are just longer."

"Yes, at the time, for various reasons, we didn't build the mansion too big. So, if we buy a new mansion, we could decorate a much cozier living room for daily use, and use a separate grand reception hall to host guests."

"So you're saying you want to buy a new mansion? You say it as lightly as picking a piece of clothing."

"Actually, that's all it is. The biggest problem I encountered is that there are no options entirely suitable in terms of location, structure, and style."

"Then why not build one yourself?"

Bruce suddenly fell silent and didn't speak. Selina stared at him for a long time, nudging him. Finally, Bruce looked at her and said, "It simply takes too long to complete a mansion."

"You are in a hurry to... " Selina stopped at this point, tightening her lips and widening her eyes at Bruce, then conceded first and said, "Stop it, you know it doesn't matter where we live. Even if the bed is broken, I can still sleep well."

"You said I have a nesting tendency."

"Just my guess."

"Your guess is right, and any mental issues I have are definitely more severe than you think, even if it's just a tendency."

"Alright, my millionaire, it's your call. Hurry up and get up, we're off to the market."

"No, it's too early." Bruce yawned, turning his head towards the end of the bed, reached out to pull Selina over, and said, "The bad sleeping position has made me a little dizzy. I think we can sleep a bit more."
