Chapter 2778 - Chapter 1970 U: Beyond Major Events (59)_1

The image on the screen continued to play. When the lens turned to show himself from Beihan's viewpoint, almost everyone was startled.

He didn't look like himself at all.

Firstly, the restroom from the office was a private one, and the space was very narrow, especially the area around the sink.

So the lamp that was installed right in the middle of the sink area was directly above Beihan's head.

When Arthur demonstrated it before, this lighting effect reminded Lord Superman of Batman. It was no coincidence. The dim environment and the centrally located top light source would make one's eyes completely sink below the eyebrows as if wearing a mask.

At the same time, the space below the chin was completely engulfed in darkness, making the face appear as if being lifted by a block of black color. The shadows of the eyebrows and nose were very clear black blocks, and the overly strong light contrast blurred the details of the facial muscles, making it look more like a sculpture from the Renaissance than a living person.

Beihan had already been rendered tense by the illusions he had seen before. When he stood under the mirror, he was understandably serious. Paired with such lighting, he surprisingly bore a striking resemblance to the Batman of the Prime Universe.

Stiff, serious, rigid – he seemed to have completely lost the vitality he once had, rather resembling a corpse or a mobile specimen.

His original charisma, lively eyes, and relaxed mouth were completely diluted in such a lighting environment, but a trace remained, like the ghost of his old self haunting him.

Beihan was obviously startled by his own image.

But he didn't know what to do, because what he saw was indeed himself, and he would always believe what he saw with his own eyes.

His real self, rich emotions, and humanity were drifting away from him. The ruthless law enforcement machine, the Dark Knight of Gotham, was descending upon him. He was about to turn into that.

But Beihan was not prepared at all. He even still wanted to save Bruce Wayne. When he discovered how quickly this moment arrived, he was first filled with fear, then anger.

"Do you enjoy all this?!"

His angry voice echoed in the narrow space, carrying resentment that he himself did not recognize. He not only resented the criminals, but also resented himself who had to ditch everything to fight crime.

If there were no criminals, he wouldn't need to be Batman, and he could be Bruce Wayne. But there were such criminals in this world who didn't suffer when they committed crimes, and even enjoyed it, which didn't match his own misery.

While he was undergoing painful transformation again and again, these damn killers were experiencing boundless joy by killing one person after another. When he was about to abandon all his emotions for the cause of justice, these lunatics pursued their true nature, doing what they loved and were best at.

Was this fair?

Was all this worth it?

He could not possibly eliminate all the criminals in this world, and more importantly, he could never make these lunatics feel genuine remorse. Even when they were put on the gallows, they still felt happy right before the rope tightened, without being punished at all.

The filming angle was focused on Beihan's side face, and his expressions of anger and resentment grew stronger.

But when the camera slowly panned, a horrifying scene appeared.

On the other side of the wall, Shiller's silhouette appeared.

Across the thin wall, Shiller stood in front of Beihan. Facing Beihan, Shiller stood before the barren wall.

Upon arriving in the room, the bystanders discovered that the hospital walls had virtually no soundproofing function, hence every conversation between Shiller and Beihan in the mirror had been overheard by Shiller.

But he said nothing, just quietly standing before the empty wall, as if the wall didn't obstruct anything and he could see everything.

"I think he's kind of scary." Spider Man swallowed and said, "I don't know how to describe it, but he has a neurotic kind of terror."

"Because he is doing something that seems very strange to ordinary people with a focused attitude," Constantine stared at Shiller on the screen and said, "to the extent that it makes you doubt yourself. Right now, you must be thinking whether he has X-ray vision or something."

"Not X-ray vision, but telepathy," Bruce said.

Then they made an even more shocking discovery.

During the conversation between Beihan and Shiller, the question of who Shiller was had been asked twice. Once by Beihan asking the Shiller in the mirror who he was, and Shiller retorted, while the last time it was Shiller who asked this question.

Upon close observation by the people in the two rooms, it was found that the last person to ask this question was not the Shiller in the mirror, but the Shiller who stood behind the wall, facing Beihan.

"Who is Shiller?"

"Shiller is... a killer devil."

Bruce's hairs stood on end.

Just because he has perfectly inherited Shiller's tolerance, he knew what would happen if he spoke ill of this professor in front of him. Shiller's tolerance for unfounded and impolite judgments was low; he could tolerate some things, but this did not mean that he could tolerate everything.

But Bruce quickly calmed down. Shiller was clearly teasing Beihan into saying these words, but why?

Beihan had already left the restroom, and then they saw the quarrel between the two that they hadn't seen before.

When Beihan returned, Shiller was already back in his original position, as if his strange behavior just now had not happened. Upon seeing Beihan, there was a puzzled look in Shiller's eyes, as if questioning why he'd been away for so long.

"I understand the situation you've explained, but I have one question, how were these morbid personalities formed?"

Shiller paused slightly, hesitated for a moment, then replied, "I thought you would be more concerned with the present situation."

"I am concerned with the present situation." Beihan stepped back half a step and said, "You've done something in the past, right?"

"This is not the time to discuss that."

"You're always changing the subject."

Shiller put down the pen in his hand, walked out from behind the table, stood opposite Beihan and said, "If you mean whether I've killed someone, I can tell you that I've done it."

Beihan's gripping fingers started trembling slightly as he fixed his gaze at Shiller's eyes and asked, "Why would you kill somebody?"

"For revenge."

Bruce covered his eyes, leaving Lord Superman somewhat puzzled. Bruce shook his head and said, "He fell for it. Don't ask me how I know."

Beihan suddenly loosened his grip, he inhaled deeply while on the spot and looked at Shiller, "How does that make you feel?"

Shiller paused a little, then lowered his eyes saying, "It was a mistake, and I've already paid the price."

Beihan turned around and chose to leave.

"Wait." Spider Man called out again, "Hold on, let me sort this out again."

"This Batman should be a superhero, right? Like Iron Man and Captain America. At least he's a good man, right?"

Spider Man spread out his hand and swung his arm up and down saying, "Generally, a good person should feel killing is wrong. If someone confessed to killing in their youth and thinks it was a mistake, he should respond with 'It's good that you think so now,' or at least 'Yes, but that's in the past'."

"Why did he turn around and walk away?!" Spider Man's tone revealed deep confusion. "It's as if he disagrees with the idea. Since when do superheroes not agree with repentant criminals?!"

Even though Spider Man was masked, everyone could tell his expression under the mask; "What's going on with the world, have I gone mad or has he definitely it's him".

"Haven't you noticed that both Shiller's are playing two different roles?" Constantine pointed at the screen and said, "The Shiller in the mirror is, let's say, the Manipulator and he's telling Batman that he's enjoying all this. The real Shiller, let's call him the Professor, tells Batman it was all a mistake."

"In reality though, they are colluding, no, I shouldn't say that. They are the same person. Why would they want to show two completely different attitudes?"

"Obviously, it's in order for one side to gain Batman's trust." Bruce tilted his head and asked, "Who do you think Batman is siding with?"

"He should support the Professor, but clearly does not want to 'should'."

"Because Bruce Wayne is overreacting." Bruce sighed, "The scene in the bathroom made him realize that he was continuously disappearing, with Batman replacing him as he loses all his humanity."

"In his mind, Batman is a machine that upholds justice and principles. The Professor apparently shares this belief; they are obviously on the same side. The morbid one is a crazed murderer, who fully indulges in his natural tendencies, freely spreading hatred and emotional chaos. Naturally, Bruce views them as being two of a kind."

"This is called Trait Amplification." Arthur scoffed and said, "In a stage performance, we dramatically exaggerate a certain part of a character's personality. This deepens the audience's impressions of the character."

"On the flip side, Bruce Wayne wasn't so evil as to support a serial killer out of revenge. But he thinks he's disappearing and he's been stimulated. To protect himself, he must make himself sufficiently extreme."

"If Batman supports justice extremely to the point of discarding his feelings, then he must oppose justice and express all his pent-up feelings, allowing his hatred to explode to ensure Batman cannot replace him."

"Just like in a debate." Bruce shrugged his shoulder saying, "One side presents an extremely provocative argument, the other side must become even more extreme. Otherwise, they cannot stimulate the audience's emotions and cannot win."

Meanwhile on the screen, Shiller quietly watched Beihan's departing figure. The door of the room was like a dividing line, standing inside wasn't just Shiller but another side of Beihan, the rational side who upholds justice – Batman.

This time, Batman was left behind.

Walking out the door, there was only Bruce Wayne left, burning with resentment, devoid of reason.

Suddenly, Shiller, who was standing inside the room, turned around and stared straight at the camera and said, "That's it."

Everyone in the screening room broke out in a cold sweat.

"Didn't you say he can't see us here?!" After trembling, Constantine glared at Owen angrily, "He saw us."

"Absolutely not." Owen looked at the screen, unable to believe, "There's no real camera there, it's just air!"

"He wouldn't have telepathy, would he?" Spider Man rubbed his arm.

"I told you so." Bruce spread his hands and said.
