The morning sun was shining bright in the city of Lagos, Nigeria. As schools resumes today, Regina High school has a new tutor named, Tomilewa Alade. Her first class of the day was Jss 3a.
She got to the class and the class rep ordered his fellow students to greet her.
"Welcome to Jss 3a, we are pleased to see you" the class chorused.
"Thank you, I guess English language is the subject you guys are having now" Tomi asked.
"Yes ma'am" the class chorused again.
"Okay then, so any one with the last term English language's questions.
"I'm with mine, ma" some students echoed.
"Okay so let's have some quick revision" Tomi said looking at her digital wrist watch and at the same time looking at the class Timetable. "We have forty five minutes left".
The revision started, Miss Tomi started by asking a girl.
"Okay let us do it like this, before you answer the question you will tell the whole class your name, then it'll be easy for me to know your names.
"Okay ma" the class replied.
The revision continued and Tomi started interacting with the class. After the period was over, Tomi left the class and returned to the staff room. She met Mr Benson, the school registrar who ushered her on the day she had the interview and the today when she resumed work.
"Well done sir" she greeted him.
"Just call me Ben"
"Really, Mr Benson how can I possibly call you Ben.
"That's what almost everyone call me"
"Okay then, Ben" Tomi said as she let out a sigh"
"Good, Miss Alade, so how do you find Jss 3a to be?"
"Tomi" Tomi smiled.
"Okay Tomi" Ben said and they bursted into laughter.
"They're actually not bad, I really enjoyed them most especially Anita and Emeka" Tomi replied.
"Okay then, let me know if you need anything, okay?".
"Sure thanks you sir" Tomi said and went to her seat to sit.
Mr Benson left for his office when he was done with what he was doing in the staff room.
A teacher entered the staff room and was being clumsy
"Hey guys" she said smiling.
"Check the time you're just coming Esther" Mr Frederick said to her.
"Always coming late" Mrs Simisola said.
Then all other teachers in the staff room except for Tomi started murmuring.
"Guys I went somewhere early this morning that's why I came late" Esther said walking to her seat beside Tomi.
"Always with an excuse" another teacher, Mrs Edmund said.
Esther sighted Tomi and said. "Hi"
"Hello, how are you doing?" Tomi asked.
"Great and you?"
"Fine thank you" Tomi replied
"I'm Esther Adeleke"
"I know, I'm Tomi, good to see you"
"Same here" Esther said and brought out her laptop.
"So what subject do you teach?" Tomi asked.
"Basic Technology and computer, I and my students are working on a project on computer in preparation for an international competition"
"I pray you guys succeed"
"Amen"
"So what class?"
"Ss 1"Esther replied. "And you, what subject are you teaching?"
"English language"
"Next prof" Esther said hailing Tomi.
"Thank you" Tomi said smiling broadly.
"So are you married?" Esther asked.
"Married?, I'm still twenty one years old and I just finished service this year April" Tomi said.
"Wow, that means you finished school early?"
"Yeah, so are you married also?"
"No, though I'm 23 as at now"
"Okay then, are you maybe in a relationship now?".
"Yeah and you?"
"No, I'm not ready for that" Tomi said and almost immediately the bell for the next period was rung.
"Tomi it's really nice talking to you, but I'll have to get going now" Esther said as she stood up to pack her books, mobile phone and her wallet.
"See you later then".
"Sure" Esther concluded and left the staff room.
