Chapter 1 - The Diaries in the Attic

The summer sun filtered through the attic windows, casting soft golden light across the dusty floorboards. Laughter echoed as Ethan and Lily, Sebastian and Amelia's grandchildren, rummaged through forgotten treasures. It was the third day of their summer break, and the attic had become their playground—a place full of mysterious boxes, old clothes, and memories they couldn't fully understand.

"Look at this," Lily called, pulling out a dusty leather-bound book from a corner trunk. Its brown cover was worn, and the pages yellowed with time.

"What is it?" Ethan asked, brushing aside some cobwebs as he made his way over.

"I think... it's a diary," Lily said, her voice full of wonder. "And there's more." She dug deeper into the trunk, pulling out another identical one.

Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Two diaries?"

The siblings exchanged a glance, curiosity sparking between them. These weren't just any books; they were windows into the lives of the grandparents they adored but didn't fully know. They opened the diaries and saw names written on the inside covers: *Sebastian* and *Amelia*.

Lily gasped. "It's Grandma's diary! And this one must be Grandpa's."

Ethan took the second diary in his hands, the weight of it heavy with untold stories. "No way... these are about their lives?"

Lily nodded, her excitement growing. "I wonder what it was like for them when they were our age."

Without hesitation, she opened the first page of Sebastian's diary, and they began to read together, their surroundings fading into the background as the world of their grandparents' youth came alive.

**Sebastian's Diary – The First Day**

*Dreykov Academy, September 5th*

Today was supposed to be just another day. I was ready for the usual routine—captain of the basketball team, the model student. But everything changed when she walked into the room.

It all started in class. Mrs. Henderson was her usual self—strict, punctual, and demanding. We had just begun our warm-up exercises when she cleared her throat, demanding attention.

"Class, I'd like to introduce a new student," she said in that clipped tone of hers. "Amelia Moreau, from Paris."

At first, the name didn't register. New students come and go at Dreykov, especially transfers. But when the door opened, and I saw her, everything stopped.

It was *her*. The girl from the mall.

I saw her yesterday. I was at the mall with the team, just killing time before practice. I spotted her near the bookstore—she caught my eye instantly. She was different. I remember how gracefully she moved, her blonde hair catching the sunlight. I tried to follow her through the crowd, but she disappeared before I could approach her. I thought that was it—I'd never see her again.

And now, here she was, standing in my class.

Mrs. Henderson went on about making her feel welcome, but I wasn't listening. I couldn't take my eyes off Amelia. There was a sense of recognition when our eyes met, and for a moment, I wondered if she remembered me, too.

Lily paused, looking up at Ethan with wide eyes. "It's like Grandpa fell in love at first sight."

Ethan grinned. "Sounds like it. I guess all those love stories he told us about weren't just stories."

Lily flipped through more pages, but something caught Ethan's attention. He noticed a few more books in the corner of the trunk. Reaching in, he pulled out two more diaries, bound similarly to the first ones.

"Hey, check this out," Ethan said, holding them up. "There are more."

Lily's eyes widened. "More diaries? You think they wrote everything down?"

Ethan shrugged. "Looks like it. Maybe each one covers a different part of their lives."

Lily ran her fingers over the worn covers of the new diaries, curiosity bubbling inside her. "We have to read them all. This is like finding buried treasure."

She grabbed Amelia's diary, opening it to the same date as Sebastian's.

**Amelia's Diary – A New Beginning**

*Dreykov Academy, September 5th*

Today was my first day at Dreykov. Moving from Paris was overwhelming, but today something happened that I wasn't expecting.

I saw him again.

Yesterday, I was at the mall, trying to get a feel for this new city. I remember seeing a boy. He was with his friends, but there was something different about him. He wasn't just laughing with the others—there was a kind of quiet confidence about him that made him stand out. I couldn't explain it, but for a moment, I felt like I should speak to him. But I didn't. I couldn't. I watched him disappear into the crowd, and I thought that would be the end of it.

But then, today, he was there—in class, no less.

I couldn't believe my eyes. The same boy from the mall was standing across the room from me. I think he recognized me too, though we didn't say anything. There was just... a moment.

Is this fate?

---

Lily's voice trembled with excitement as she read the last line aloud. "They were both thinking the same thing!"

Ethan nodded, equally absorbed in the unfolding story. "This is crazy. It's like we're watching everything happen in real-time."

Lily closed Amelia's diary gently, her mind racing. "We have to keep reading. I want to know how it all happened—how they went from this to being... well, Grandma and Grandpa."

Ethan agreed. "Let's take the diaries downstairs. We can read more later."

As they gathered the diaries and prepared to leave the attic, something else caught Ethan's eye. In the back of the trunk, barely visible beneath the dust, was a small box. It was old, wooden, and locked with a rusted latch.

"What do you think is in here?" Ethan asked, lifting the box carefully.

Lily frowned. "It's locked. Maybe it's something valuable."

"Or maybe it's more diaries," Ethan said with a grin.

Lily's eyes lit up at the thought. "A whole series of diaries? That would be amazing."

Ethan shook the box gently, hearing a soft rattling inside. "Whatever's in here, it sounds important."

Lily glanced at the stack of diaries in her arms, then back at the box. "If these diaries are just the beginning... imagine how much more there is to discover."

Ethan nodded in agreement. "Looks like we've got a lot of reading ahead of us."

The siblings shared a look of excitement and anticipation, knowing they had only just scratched the surface of their grandparents' untold love story. And deep down, they couldn't wait to uncover the rest.

**Sebastian's Diary – Continued**

*Dreykov Academy, September 6th*

I barely slept last night. I couldn't stop thinking about her—about Amelia. Today was different, though. I didn't have to wonder if I'd see her again. She's part of this school now. Part of my world. And somehow, that changes everything.

I saw her again in class today. She didn't say much—she's still getting used to the place, I guess. But she looked at me. Really looked at me this time. And for the first time, I felt like I had to do something about it.

I don't know what's going to happen, but I have a feeling that meeting her wasn't just chance. It feels like something more. Something bigger than I can explain.

All I know is, I need to talk to her. I need to know if she feels the same.

**Amelia's Diary – The Day After**

*Dreykov Academy, September 6th*

I saw him again today.

Sebastian.

I know his name now. He's popular at this school, the basketball captain. It seems like everyone knows him. But that's not why he stands out to me. It's something else, something I can't quite put into words yet.

We didn't talk today, but we looked at each other. And in that moment, I felt something I haven't felt before. I don't know if it's love, but it's... something.

---

Back in the attic, Lily and Ethan carefully tucked the diaries under their arms, their minds buzzing with excitement. They had barely scratched the surface of their grandparents' story, and there were still more diaries to uncover—more memories, more secrets, and more of the love that had built the foundation of their family.

The summer had only just begun, and so had their journey into the past.
