Chapter 2 - Love at First Sight

**Sebastian's Diary Entry**

July 15, 2024

Dear Diary,

Today was unlike any other. I walked into Dreykov Academy, just like I always do, but something felt different. Maybe it was the excitement in the air or the anticipation of the new school year. The hallways buzzed with chatter, and students greeted each other with smiles, but I felt a strange mix of energy coursing through me.

As the captain of the basketball team and a star student, I usually walked through the school with confidence. However, today that confidence wavered just a bit. I took my usual seat in the classroom, ready for another day of classes, but my mind was elsewhere. The thought of the new student Ms. Henderson mentioned filled my head with curiosity. What would she be like?

The moment Ms. Henderson stepped into the room, everything changed. She stood at the front with her usual poised demeanor, a stack of papers in hand. "Good morning, class! I have an exciting announcement," she said, her voice carrying a note of enthusiasm that drew everyone's attention. "We have a new student joining us today from France. Please welcome Amelia Dupont!"

The room fell silent as she gestured toward the door. I turned to look, and there she was—my heart skipped a beat. Amelia had long, flowing hair that cascaded over her shoulders, and those mesmerizing green eyes sparkled with curiosity and a hint of shyness. In that instant, I felt a connection that was inexplicable. Time seemed to freeze around us, and I couldn't help but admire her beauty.

As she stepped into the classroom, I could hardly believe my eyes. This was the girl from the mall! The one who had stolen my breath away with just a smile. I thought that moment would be lost in time, a fleeting glimpse of something beautiful that I'd never see again. But here she was, standing right in front of me.

"Please introduce yourself, Amelia," Ms. Henderson encouraged.

I watched as Amelia took a deep breath, clearly trying to steady her nerves. "Um, hi everyone! I'm Amelia Dupont. I just moved here from France, and I'm excited to meet all of you," she said, her voice slightly trembling yet melodic.

The class welcomed her with a few scattered claps and murmurs of interest. My heart raced as I thought about how to break the ice. I wanted to say something, to make her feel at ease, but I was struck dumb. When Ms. Henderson told her to sit beside me, it felt like fate had intervened. My heart raced again. *Could this really be happening?*

She walked toward me, and I could feel the tension in the air. The moment felt electric, as if the universe conspired to bring us together. But the closer she got, the more my palms began to sweat. My usual confidence seemed to evaporate as I struggled to think of something to say.

"Hi," I managed to mumble when she took her seat next to me. She smiled, and it felt like the sun had broken through the clouds. For a brief moment, the world around us faded, and it was just the two of us.

As Ms. Henderson started the lesson, I found it nearly impossible to concentrate. My mind kept wandering back to the fleeting moment at the mall. How I had been restless all night, tossing and turning in bed, unable to shake the image of her beautiful face from my thoughts. I thought I would never see her again, that I was simply chasing a dream. Yet here she was, just inches away.

I glanced sideways at Amelia, who seemed equally focused on the board but occasionally stole glances at me. Our eyes met, and I felt a spark. Did she feel it too? I wanted to know more about her, to unravel the mystery behind those captivating green eyes. I could tell there was something special about her, something that transcended the typical high school introductions.

But instead of speaking, I sat in silence, filled with a mix of admiration and apprehension. What if I stumbled over my words? What if I embarrassed myself? My thoughts spiraled, and all I could do was observe her. She had a slight furrow in her brow, a sign of concentration, but every now and then, I caught her looking my way. My heart raced at the thought that she might be just as curious about me as I was about her.

**Amelia's Diary Entry**

July 15, 2024

Dear Diary,

Today marked my first day at Dreykov Academy, and I was both nervous and excited. Moving from France was a big change, and I didn't know what to expect. The plane ride was exhausting, and my thoughts were filled with worries about fitting in and making friends. But when I stepped into that classroom, my heart raced for a different reason.

Ms. Henderson introduced me, and I could feel all eyes on me as I walked to the front. I took a deep breath and shared a little about myself, trying to ignore the flutter of nerves in my stomach. "Um, hi everyone! I'm Amelia Dupont. I just moved here from France, and I'm excited to meet all of you," I said, hoping I didn't sound as anxious as I felt.

Then I saw him—the boy from the mall. My breath caught in my throat. Sebastian. He sat there, looking at me as if he recognized me too. My heart pounded in my chest as I approached the empty seat beside him. The air between us was charged with an unspoken connection. I felt a wave of shyness wash over me, even though I wasn't typically shy. How could I be when I had been thinking about him since yesterday?

I sat down, trying to focus on Ms. Henderson's lesson, but all I could think about was how close he was. The warmth radiating from him was palpable, and every time I caught his eye, my stomach flipped. What were the odds that I would see him again?

I could see him glancing at me, and it made me feel both excited and nervous. He was the most handsome boy I had ever seen—tall, athletic, and with an air of confidence that was both attractive and intimidating. I wanted to ask him about his life, what he liked to do, if he had ever traveled to France, but the words wouldn't come.

Neither of us spoke. We just stole glances, each of us lost in our thoughts, contemplating what it meant to be sitting next to one another. I couldn't shake the feeling that this was significant, a moment that would change everything. I remembered how restless I was last night, thinking about that mystery boy at the mall, wondering if I'd ever see him again. Now, here we were, sitting side by side.

As the class progressed, I did my best to focus on Ms. Henderson, but my mind kept wandering back to Sebastian. He was so close, yet so far away. What if I messed up my chance to get to know him? What if he thought I was weird for not speaking? My mind raced with possibilities, both exciting and terrifying.

Suddenly, I caught Sebastian's eye, and for a moment, it felt like the world around us vanished. I could see curiosity in his gaze, a silent invitation to connect. My heart raced at the thought that he might be just as interested in me as I was in him. The moment felt charged, and I knew I wanted to know him better, to explore whatever this was between us.

But for now, I would have to be patient. Who knows what tomorrow will bring forth.

...

In a cozy room filled with sunlight, Lily and Ethan sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by an assortment of notebooks and colorful pens. They had read their grandparents' old diaries multiple times, and each time they found something new that resonated with their own experiences. Today, they were ready to dive into the next chapter of Amelia and Sebastian's story.

"Let's pick up where we left off!" Lily exclaimed, excited to delve into the next diary entry. She opened the diary, the familiar smell of old pages wafting through the air.

"Yeah, I love how real their feelings are. It's like we're right there with them," Ethan added, his eyes shining with anticipation.

As they began to read, they could feel the emotions of their grandparents come alive on the pages. It was as if they were witnessing the beginnings of a love story, unfolding right before their eyes. The tension, the excitement, and the unspoken feelings resonated with their own experiences, stirring memories of their own awkward crushes and school days.

"Look at how they're both feeling nervous and excited! It's so relatable," Lily said, her voice filled with empathy.

Ethan nodded, a grin spreading across his face. "Yeah! I remember feeling like this when I had a crush on Emma last year. It's so intense."

They continued reading, captivated by the way their grandparents expressed their thoughts and emotions. Each entry pulled them deeper into the world of Amelia and Sebastian, allowing them to feel the pangs of first love through their grandparents' eyes.

"Do you think they'll end up together?" Ethan asked, glancing at his sister, his brow furrowed with curiosity.

"Of course! They have to," Lily replied confidently, her heart racing with anticipation. "But I bet it won't be easy. They have to navigate all the awkwardness.
