Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Outbreak

In the hospital, things got busy because of the accident. The doctors and nurses kept running around, assisting and treating the patients. The police were also on standby, and some officers were talking to the doctors.

"Sheen, can you help me here?" she said.

"Okay, what is it?" Sheen said, assisting his colleague.

"I don't know why, but his temperature is low as if he's dead, but his heart rate is rising abnormally," she said while checking the patient.

"Not only that, but many patients that have been brought in also have the same condition," she added, her voice tinged with growing concern.

The revelation sent a ripple of unease through the medical team. Sheen exchanged worried glances with his colleagues, realizing that they were dealing with something beyond the scope of a typical accident.

The police officers, sensing something unusual, remained vigilant.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the head director asked, "What about the results of their scans and blood tests?"

Sheen's colleague sighed, "That's the perplexing part. The scans and blood tests show abnormalities, but nothing conclusive. It's like their bodies are undergoing some unprecedented changes, and we can't pinpoint the cause."

"We saw a bite mark too, and the corpses that were brought here also have bite marks," said Sheen's colleague, her voice carrying a note of distress.

Sheen approached one of the police officers and asked, "Do you have any information on how this all started? The victims show similar symptoms, and there's a commonality with bite marks. Is there something we should know?"

The police officer, looking equally perplexed, replied, "We're investigating the cause of the accident, but we didn't expect this turn of events. We found those corpses inside the truck and we focused on helping the other people who got caught in the accident. We're trying to contain the situation and figure out what we're dealing with."

The ER erupted into chaos as the beeping intensified, signaling the onset of seizures in the patients. The medical team, already overwhelmed by the unfolding crisis, now faced an escalating emergency. Sheen and his colleagues rushed to each patient, trying to stabilize them amidst the tumult.

The seizures spread like wildfire, creating a sense of panic among both the medical staff and the police officers.

As the medical team worked tirelessly to address the seizures, Sheen couldn't shake off the feeling that they were dealing with something far more insidious than a mere accident.

Outside the ER, many nurses whispered among themselves, their hushed conversations filled with uncertainty and concern about what was happening inside.

The hallway became a backdrop for worried exchanges as the medical staff grappled with the sudden and inexplicable health crisis unfolding within the hospital.

"It seems something is happening inside. I think Sheen will be late. I suppose Ken and I will wait for him here for a while. By the way, where is Ken already?" Ryo said, checking his phone and intending to call Ken.

The echo of the shout reverberated through the hallway, catching the attention of Ryo and the other waiting individuals. It was a voice filled with distress, further amplifying the tension that hung in the air.

As the shouting continued, a sense of unease intensified among those waiting outside the ER. Whispers of concern spread like wildfire, and anxious glances were exchanged. Ryo, growing increasingly restless, debated whether to enter the ER to find out what was happening.

The hospital staff in the vicinity appeared equally alarmed, their expressions mirroring the escalating chaos within. The waiting area transformed into a space filled with heightened emotions, uncertainty, and a shared anticipation of the unknown.

Ryo, unable to contain his worry, made a decisive move towards the ER entrance, his instinct pushing him to seek answers within the heart of the unfolding crisis.

As Ryo approached the entrance door of the ER, suddenly someone opened the door and rushed outside. Ryo was shocked, not just because someone suddenly opened the door, but because the face of the person looked terrified and was bleeding.

The person, still disoriented and panicked, abruptly broke away from Ryo and started running away. Ryo, momentarily taken aback, considered chasing after them to gather more information. However, the urgency of the situation inside the ER compelled him to refocus on finding out what was happening.

Ryo took a deep breath, steeling himself for whatever he might encounter inside, and pushed open the door to the ER. The chaotic scene that unfolded before him was beyond anything he could have anticipated.

As Ryo walked inside, a surreal and horrifying scene unfolded before him. People were biting and fighting each other, creating an atmosphere of chaos and terror.

The police, attempting to avoid using firearms, resorted to brutal force in an attempt to subdue individuals caught in the frenzied violence.

The once-sterile environment of the hospital was now tainted with desperation and fear. Ryo, momentarily frozen by the nightmarish sight, quickly realized the severity of the situation.

It wasn't just a health crisis; it was a struggle for survival against a force that seemed to defy all rational explanation.

Amid the pandemonium, Ryo's thoughts raced, grappling with the urgency to find his friend.

Dodging the frenzied individuals engaged in the disturbing violence, Ryo navigated through the chaos, his eyes scanning the tumultuous scene for any sign of Sheen. The air was thick with desperation and fear, making every step forward a daunting task.

As Ryo ventured further into the hospital, he realized the severity of the situation. The familiar corridors were now filled with blood, and he couldn't shake the feeling that they were dealing with something much more significant than a usual emergency.

He carefully walked through and witnessed the unthinkable—people devouring other people. A wave of disbelief and horror washed over Ryo. Despite the gruesome scene before him, a chilling realization started to take root in his mind. He didn't want to believe it, but the evidence was too overwhelming to deny.

"Damn, I should have brought my baseball bat with me," Ryo muttered to himself. The realization that the situation had escalated to a point where self-defense was paramount sank in. The familiar weight of the baseball bat would have provided a small sense of security amidst the chaos that surrounded him.

Ryo proceeded cautiously, heightened senses alert to potential dangers. The once-familiar hospital corridors now concealed hidden threats. Urgency gripped him as he navigated the surreal chaos, driven by the need to find Sheen and comprehend the extent of the catastrophe.

Ryo halted abruptly, spotting a figure blocking his path. Uncertainty gripped him as he couldn't discern whether the individual was a fellow human or something else entirely.

"Alright, I can handle this. Whatever it is, I'll just punch the heck out of him," Ryo declared, steeling himself for whatever might come his way.

Ryo cautiously approached the man, who remained standing with his back turned, an air of mystery surrounding him.

Suddenly, a man and a woman, running and shouting, noticed the figure standing. They quickly darted into a nearby room. The man, who had been standing, heard them and swiftly pursued, racing towards the room.

Ryo, observing the unfolding scene, hesitated for a moment. The urgency in the strangers' actions heightened his sense of caution.

"I'm sorry, but whoever you guys are, thanks for being the bait," Ryo remarked before continuing to walk, his steps measured and his senses sharp.

Ryo entered the room cautiously, noting its emptiness. Through the glass, he spotted a golf bag, Intrigued, he approached the bag to get a closer look.

Spotting a golf club in the bag, Ryo decided to seize the opportunity. He picked up the club, feeling its weight in his hands. Prepared for whatever challenges lay ahead, he continued his journey through the unpredictable twists of the hospital.

"Just where the heck is Sheen? I thought I could find him fast," Ryo muttered, frustration creeping into his voice.

My colleague and I are currently hiding in the surgery room, seeking refuge from the chaos that has engulfed the hospital. Earlier, the patients suddenly started seizing, and something bizarre was happening to them.

They began attacking us one by one, attempting to bite all of us. The situation has taken a nightmarish turn, and we're doing our best to stay safe and comprehend the unfolding crisis.

"What are they? Why are they suddenly attacking us?" came a terrified voice, echoing the shared fear and confusion that gripped everyone hiding in the surgery room.

"Doesn't it seem like they look like zombies?" someone uttered, the words hanging heavily in the air, as the chilling realization of the situation settled in.

"But aren't they real? I mean, they're just in movies and games!" someone exclaimed, their disbelief mirroring the surreal and horrifying nature of the events unfolding around them.

"So how do you explain them? I don't think medical terms can explain it," someone reasoned, their words echoing the struggle to comprehend the inexplicable and terrifying reality they were facing.

I listened to their argument, silently acknowledging the signs deep down. As a gamer, I recognized a resemblance to a zombie outbreak, but my medical training compelled me to deny such a surreal possibility.

"We won't survive staying here like this. We need to find something we can use to defend ourselves," I declared, urgency in my tone as I began searching the surgery room for any makeshift weapons or tools that could aid our defense.

"Are you trying to fight them? Didn't you see how strong they are?" someone exclaimed, voicing fear and concern about confronting the unknown threat that lurked outside the surgery room.

"You will turn into one of them if you try to fight them," added someone, highlighting the ominous consequences that seemed to accompany any confrontation with the mysterious and aggressive attackers.

"So do you think we can last long here? We don't have food or anything that can keep us alive," I voiced the practical concern, emphasizing the need for a more sustainable plan in our dire situation.

Observing the sense of hopelessness in their eyes, I maintained a glimmer of belief that we could overcome the odds, or at least I could. Determined, I continued searching the room, desperate to find something that could serve as a means of defense or escape in this dire situation.
