"I don't know what to do with you guys now." Makoto looked at the two men, one unconscious and the other in a daze, standing next to her. "We need to get out of here, Kenshin. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"
"T- th- they're dead. Th- the kids are dead." Kenshin was still under the influence of the images of children falling one by one to the ground. Makoto placed her hands on Kenshin's shoulders. "Look, I know. Many children died, many innocent children, but we would have died there. Larry saved us. For now, let's please put this issue aside. We need to get out of here URGENTLY. Do you understand, Kenshin?"
"T- th- they're dead..." Kenshin's eyes were starting to fill with tears. "Come on, I can only carry one of you, and you don't need to be carried, Kenshin." Makoto quietly watched Kenshin, but there was no progress. She placed her hands on his cheeks and leaned in close to his face. Opening her eyes, she looked into his. Kenshin, finally somewhat conscious, looked back at her with those purple eyes. "Look at me, hero. You have no fault here. Larry is not at fault either. This is entirely my fault, I brought us here. Okay? Now stop crying, you're Makoto's hero, and we're getting out of here."
"N- no, it's your fault-"
"Kenshin, please... let's leave these for later. We need to get out of here urgently now. We can't think about those kids. We can't save them. We can't save everyone. You know that. These are the facts... but these facts can never change the fact that you are a hero, Kenshin. My favorite part is that you are my hero." Makoto wrapped her arms around Kenshin. "Can we go now?"
"I- I'm sorry. I don't know, it's all too complicated..."
"Come on, hero, accept the truth now." Makoto hugged him tighter. "I- I'm sorry, the images won't leave my mind. I can't overcome it, I'm sorry."
"You don't need to get rid of the images from your mind. Just understand and accept the reality of those images. They're dead. We can't bring them back. We can't save the other survivors either. I know, I sounded very harsh, but I just want to leave here as quickly as possible... with you."
"I understand..." Kenshin gently pushed Makoto away. "Please take Larry and go home, Makoto."
"I'm not going anywhere without you, Kenshin."
"Go, Makoto. I'm sorry, but I can't come."
"Kenshin, if your intention is to save the other children, you know that's impossible. WE CAN'T SAVE THEM. We need to leave."
"Please, Makoto, just... listen to me." Makoto didn't know how to respond to Kenshin's expression, but she couldn't leave him. "If you stay here, I'll stay too."
"Makoto, no-"
"Yes."
"Please."
"No." Makoto firmly held Kenshin's hand. "We're an inseparable pair. That's why I'll never leave you. Why are you chasing after something that can never be real?"
"But I can't leave those kids alone."
"You have to."
"I can't..."
"These are the facts, Kenshin. We're heroes, yes, in our own way, but we can't be real heroes. You have to let go of these dreams now. When you joined me in this, you accepted the reality of it yourself. You turned us from thieves into some kind of thief heroes, and now you're going against what you've created... ah anyway, please let's just go."
"Makoto..."
"I know your mother was a very good person. You want to be like her, that's perfectly normal. Now I'll tell you about my own parents. You'll learn the story behind these wounds, but in return, you'll come home with me." Makoto took off her clothes, leaving only her underwear. Kenshin was completely embarrassed by this situation. His mind was becoming increasingly confused. He didn't know what to do. All of Makoto's wounds were visible. The scratches between her breasts, the scars on her stomach, the burns on her arms. Kenshin could guess that they were the work of her parents, but he had never heard the real story.
"Now let the truth come out. Listen to my story and understand that you need to give up on this. This place is really a mess. Let's move on to the story."
