Chapter 27 - A happy ending

"What's your purpose?" As Masaru was about to enter his cell, Larry, with newly healed arms, stopped him. "Ah, Larry, what a predictable surprise," Masaru turned to Larry with a smile on his face. "What are you aiming for? How did you manage all of this?" Masaru raised his finger. "You know, Larry, while watching you in the darkness, I wanted to kill you. I could see what you were up to. But now, I have no anger towards you, well, saying none wouldn't be entirely accurate. Expressing my anger towards you just doesn't make sense to me."

"This isn't the answer to my questions, you—" "The grand finale is approaching, Larry; the grand finale is approaching." Masaru entered his cell and closed the door. "Go and take your revenge, Larry; your big real battle is approaching. You're not the same as before; that woman has changed you, go and face the truths." Larry stood frozen in silence. He would soon confront Kano, the man his wife betrayed him with.

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, ARE WE READY FOR A NEW ENCOUNTER?" "YES!" The audience was excited. After the battle where Kano faced a tragic end, this was a guaranteed victory. They were all trying to guess how Kano would secure his win. Kano and Larry passed each other; Larry had a tired expression, not much different from Kano's. "AND BEGIN." They were slowly walking together in a circular arena, looking at each other. "I don't want to hurt you, Larry, give up." Larry continued silently following him with his eyes. "You know you can't defeat me, Larry, don't do this." Ignoring Kano's warnings, Larry started running towards him; Kano waited without doing anything. As he approached, Kano swung his sword forward.

Kano was influenced by Larry's escape; he pulled the strings he had tied to his own arm with his other hand and quickly pulled himself aside. The hand coming towards him disappeared before it could touch him. "Don't do this, Larry." When Kano looked at Larry, he already understood that the strings were entangled around him. Larry swiftly swung his arm to the ground, pinning Kano to the floor. Larry climbed on top of the fallen Kano. "Why did you do such a thing?" "What did I do, Larry?" Larry punched Kano in the face. "Why did you steal my only friend from me?" Larry's eyes filled with tears. Kano's eyes opened with this sight. "Y-you knew she was yo-" "YES, YOU BASTARD." Larry repeatedly hit Kano's face. Kano spat out a broken tooth. "Please, Larry, there are things you don't know, I'm really sorry-" Larry landed another punch. "I know, you're angry, and you have every right to be, but—" and another punch, "please let me explain—" another punch, "y-you took her away from me." Larry's eyes were filled with pain; the man he saw as the only ally in life had taken someone from him, lying there on the ground. "WHY DID YOU DO THIS?" "I didn't know-" Larry punched again, "I didn't know she had a husband." This time, Kano caught the incoming punch. "Don't interrupt me, Larry; look, that woman kept watching me all the time, no matter how much I told her, she didn't understand me." Larry threw another punch, but Kano caught it too. "She trapped me. She knocked me out." Kano slowly pushed Larry off and continued explaining. "When I woke up, I was tied to a bed, naked. I'm sorry, Larry, truly sorry." Tears were flowing from Larry's eyes. "I knew you would believe me, Larry." Kano stood up and started walking towards the door. "Hahahaa." Kano stopped; it was clear that things were going downhill.

"I'm sorry, my friend, but I cannot forgive you," Larry said, closing his fist and swinging his arm backward. "ONE OF US WILL LEAVE HERE, KANO." The strings entwined around Kano's entire body, filling him with cuts. In pain, Kano fell to the ground. He had to be quick, or Larry would finish him. Gathering all the flow within him, he tore the strings apart; before Larry could establish contact with him, Kano grabbed his swords and moved away.

"Please, Larry, I'm not guilty, you know it." "I-I'm not saying you're guilty, I believe you, but I can't forgive you, Kano, hahahaaa," tears never ceased in his eyes. Larry swung his arm again. As he swung it, Kano's leg was shattered. "Hahahaa, only one of us will survive." Kano planted his sword into the ground, avoiding being knocked down.

"I don't want to kill you, Larry." "Then you will die." Kano constantly evaded Larry's attacks, each time swiftly avoiding him. With only one leg remaining, the distance he could cover was significantly shortened. This meant constantly evading the incoming attacks in short intervals.

"Please, Larry, stop." "I have nothing left, can't you understand, hahahaa?" Kano opened his eyes again, tears starting to flow. "Larry," he looked at Larry, running towards him in pain. Tears kept flowing from his eyes, and under those tear-filled eyes, a dreadful smile; although the audience might not understand, Kano saw how much pain was in that smile.

"I will fulfill your wish, Larry." He focused his eyes on the target audience; he was on the opposite side of the arena, spending a great deal of energy in this state. "This is for you, Larry." Kano accelerated the flow within him. He directed all the remaining flow to his intact leg. "aaaAAAA," with the sword stuck in his chest, Larry began to soar to the other end of the arena along with Kano.

"T-thank you," Kano, upon hearing these words, considered stopping the attack; it was still not too late, but no, this was Larry's wish. As Kano swung Larry to where he wanted, he pulled his sword out of his chest. As Larry fell to the ground, there was a sweet smile on his face. Kano couldn't hold back the tears. Finally, he too succumbed to exhaustion and fell to the ground. Larry was bewildered by the sight in front of him. His wife was watching him.

"I'M SORRY, LARRY." Larry, even though he couldn't hear these words, was content seeing his wife crying while looking at him; this ending was one of the happiest for him. He closed his eyes peacefully.
