The ride from the Midlands down to the Southern Land—the humble mansion of the McCartneys—took exactly three hours. As an evening party, it began at four o'clock. The siblings were an hour late. As the coachmen parked each of the carriages they rode in the mansion's carriage lot, the siblings alighted from their carriages.
Silverstein stepped down and outstretched his hand for the orange-haired lady inside to accept, and she did so without hesitation.
"Thank you," she said, appreciating his gesture. Alexandra had attended many soirées with Cloe and Cleo, and a few with her parents, but this was the first time she had gone with a man.
"You're most welcome," he replied, smiling at her.
The four siblings walked behind Silverstein and Alexandra, the real show of the evening. They were led inside the mansion's ballroom—where the party was held—by attentive servants.
