Cleo gasped, her breath escaping her lungs in a flurry of panic. Alexandra's face was a portrait of shock, while Cloe covered her mouth in horror.
"P... poison? Who would poison these innocent creatures?" Cleo's voice trembled as she spoke, each word heavy with disbelief.
"I don't understand..." the man interjected, his brows furrowed in confusion. "I've always been here, so I don't know who might've done this!" He ruffled his hair anxiously, fear gripping his heart. If the king found out, he would be as good as dead!
"Whoever did this... it must be someone from the castle," Alexandra murmured, biting her lip. But who would commit such an atrocity? They all relied on the rabbits for sustenance; why would anyone kill a source of life?
"This is dire. Poisoned rabbits… they should perish within the hour," Cloe said, her voice barely above a whisper.
