Chapter 2 - Ch. 2 Heroes and Abilities

Saitama responded without hesitation, "What's that? I have no recollection whatsoever."

As Reinhard expected.

This was probably the result of the ease and indifferent attitude that powerful individuals have towards everything.

After nearly a month of getting to know each other, Reinhard had a basic understanding of Saitama as a person. In Reinhard's eyes, Saitama possessed overwhelming power that surpassed any life or being on Earth. He could effortlessly defeat any enemy, regardless of their strength, with a single punch. Even monsters akin to natural disasters that could destroy a city in a short amount of time were no more than a one-punch affair for him.

Moreover, Reinhard could sense that Saitama never exerted his full strength when throwing a punch.

So, until now, Reinhard couldn't ascertain where Saitama's limits truly lay.

This, in turn, led to a certain level of distortion and abnormality in Saitama's mentality. In simple terms, he had little interest in most things.

Despite this, he behaved exceptionally like an ordinary person.

It seemed that due to financial constraints, Saitama's primary concern was supermarket discounts. He had never used his formidable power to gain special treatment in terms of material possessions or status. Although he received no support or material rewards, he continued his hero activities.

He displayed an indifferent attitude towards most things but could become surprisingly excited about seemingly trivial matters to others.

He was, in essence, a contradictory individual.

So, when Saitama claimed not to remember his own abilities, Reinhard already had a good idea.

With a slight sigh, countless pure white particles appeared in Reinhard's palm. If observed with the naked eye, it looked like a thin white mist emanating from his hand.

Next, Reinhard made a motion as if holding a firearm. With the change in his hand gestures, his beloved gun, a modified black .45 caliber M1911A1 pistol, appeared in his hand. While demonstrating, Reinhard explained, "Simply put, it's the ability to create and produce various objects."

This ability was something Reinhard gained after arriving in this world.

Since it was a spontaneously possessed ability, it could be considered within the category of 'superpowers.' Thus, Reinhard could also be regarded as a superpowered individual, although superpowers, in the conventional sense, involved telekinesis.

This superpower didn't have a specific name initially.

The name "Dark Matter" was something Reinhard came up with.

The reason for having this ability seemed to be a mutation in his entire skeletal system, no, strictly speaking, the bone marrow responsible for blood cell production underwent a mutation. As a result, it could continuously produce the substance Reinhard referred to as "Dark Matter."

Initially, only the bone marrow underwent a mutation.

However, as Dark Matter continued to be produced, transported through the bloodstream and metabolism to various parts of the body, fusing with body cells, Reinhard's body underwent constant changes.

For example, the entire skeletal structure, closest to the bone marrow, was the first to undergo mutation. Due to the integration with "Dark Matter," the hardness, toughness, and structure of Reinhard's entire skeletal system underwent a drastic transformation, providing excellent protection for vital organs. Reinhard hadn't tested the current strength to its limits, but there was an incident where he was hit by a car and flew a considerable distance, emerging completely unscathed.

Similarly, after integration with the skin, by a simple thought, Reinhard could instantly increase the strength of the skin to that of steel. Moreover, aging was slowed down, and the effects of heat and cold on the skin were weakened. Even the Dark Matter within the skin cells could simulate chloroplasts, the plant-specific energy converters. By absorbing sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water, it could synthesize the oxygen and nutrients needed for life, providing remarkable durability.

Under normal circumstances, Dark Matter primarily served the function of blood cells.

Hence, Reinhard had an immune system resistant to any bacteria, viruses, or toxins. Anything attempting to enter the body and harm it would be swiftly eliminated by Dark Matter at the fastest possible speed.

Because of the free definition of its physical and chemical properties, Dark Matter could, like stem cells, substitute for any part of the body. With a single thought, the Dark Matter within the body could also act like nanomachines, simulating a respiratory process to significantly enhance Reinhard's physical abilities. It was this characteristic that gave Reinhard his superficial superpowers, the ability to create and produce various objects.

These were all small tricks Reinhard had mastered through experimentation.

In reality, he had undergone a comprehensive examination and analysis of his current physical condition with the help of a genius scientist, Dr. Okazaki. Not only did he become younger, but the details about his abilities were still limited.

After all, Reinhard's 'Dark Matter' was highly unreliable.

After losing three unnamed, unexplained, and unsupported abilities, as well as a few other things or skills, it disappeared. Until now, a month had passed without a trace.

Reinhard also didn't explain to Saitama in detail.

After all, the collaboration with Dr. Okazaki, who conducted extensive testing, produced several thick initial stage reports. Although it wasn't impossible to explain, Saitama most likely wouldn't be able to endure listening. After all, he didn't exercise his brain much.

After hearing Reinhard's concise explanation, Saitama, holding a piece of meat in his mouth, stared blankly for a moment before shouting, "Isn't that an incredibly powerful ability?! Can you create anything?"

"In theory, yes." Reinhard gave a virtual pinch, and the gun immediately disassembled and recycled, "It's a bit mystical. After understanding the basic principles and designs to a certain extent, you can manufacture it. However, if the object being created isn't well understood, it's challenging to succeed."

But for now, most common props can be easily made. To create more and richer props, it might take some time to recharge.

"What an enviable ability." Muttering this, but Reinhard knew that, compared to his ability, Saitama was currently more concerned about the food in the pot. "So, how do you get your meat? Do you create it with your ability?"

"That would be a waste. Creating precious metals or rare elements with Dark Matter and selling them brings in money quickly. Then I use that money to buy the supplies I need."

Upon hearing this, Saitama left behind tears of envy. Damn, he also wanted to have this ability! So, Saitama turned his sorrow into a determination to eat, accelerating the pace of his meal.

"I feel like something's missing." Saitama, with plump cheeks, looked around.

After thinking for a moment, Reinhard turned on the television.

"It's probably missing some background music."

"Got that taste now." Satisfied, Saitama sat back, "Come to think of it, I've never seen this channel before."

"This is that Idol Audition program, right? Since it's a paid program, Saitama-san, it's normal for you not to have seen it."

'Is this mocking my poverty? Damn wealthy people!'

Saitama's pride was slightly pricked.

He decided to retaliate. He planned to eat all the premium beef Reinhard bought, leaving nothing for him.

Reinhard, unaware of Saitama's thoughts, would just smile if he knew. He was currently adjusting the program. "There's nothing interesting, let's watch the news."

Just as he switched to the news channel, an urgent news report was airing.

[The loud rumbling and intense vibrations continue! A sudden attack has struck A-City, with the explosion's range still expanding. The entire city seems like...]

Before the report could finish, perhaps due to an incident on-site, the signal was lost.

Seeing this while chewing, Saitama swallowed the food in his mouth.

"I'm full, thanks for the treat." Putting down his bowl and chopsticks, Saitama clasped his hands together.

"Saitama-san, are you heading to A-City?"

"Yeah." Saitama stood up, stretching, "I can be considered a hero driven by interest, right? Seeing a disaster happen, I can't just ignore it."
