Chapter 10: Relentless Pursuit
Despite Ryu's attempts to distance himself from Kumo, the persistent young swordsman seemed determined to shadow his every move. Time and again, Kumo would approach Ryu, pleading to join him on his quests, much to Ryu's growing irritation.
Kumo: "Ryu, please, let me prove myself to you. I won't be a burden, I swear!"
Ryu's response was always the same: a cold, dismissive stare, followed by a terse refusal.
Ryu: "I work alone. Stay out of my way."
But Kumo remained undeterred, his resolve unshaken by Ryu's frosty demeanor.
Kumo: "I won't give up, Ryu. I know I can be of help to you."
Ryu's annoyance simmered beneath the surface, his patience stretched to its limit by Kumo's relentless pursuit. But fate, it seemed, had a cruel sense of irony.
Ryu: Hmph. do whatever you want
During their next quest, a routine extermination of a nest of giant spiders, Ryu found himself begrudgingly partnered with Kumo once again. As they delved deeper into the darkened caverns, the spiders' venomous fangs gleaming in the dim light, Ryu couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding.
Sure enough, disaster struck when Kumo stumbled into a trap, his leg ensnared by a web of sticky silk. With the spiders closing in, their venomous bites poised to strike, Ryu had no choice but to intervene.
Ryu: "Pathetic..."
With a resigned sigh, he dispatched the arachnids with ruthless efficiency, freeing Kumo from his predicament.
Kumo: "Th-thank you, Ryu. I owe you my life."
Ryu's only response was a curt nod, his annoyance palpable. Yet despite his best efforts to shake off Kumo's persistent presence, fate continued to conspire against him.
Time and again, Ryu found himself forced to come to Kumo's aid, whether it be against bandits, monsters, or other assorted dangers lurking in the wild. Each time, Ryu's frustration grew, his irritation at Kumo's ineptitude reaching new heights.
But amidst the chaos and danger, a begrudging respect began to blossom within Ryu's heart. Despite Kumo's shortcomings, there was a stubborn determination within him, a refusal to back down in the face of adversity.
And so, begrudgingly, Ryu allowed Kumo to accompany him on his quests, his cold exterior masking a grudging acknowledgment of Kumo's unwavering resolve.
For in a world where strength was paramount, perhaps there was room for a different kind of hero after all
