Regaining control of her fall at the last second, Lady Irreek was able to dodge out of the talons' path, saving her neck and chest from being impaled.
Unfortunately for her, the queen wasn't entirely untrained in aerial manoeuvring, and was prepared for the evade.
With a sudden twist of her body, her wings went from parallel to the ground, to perpendicular. Like a razor, her right wing clipped the lady's wing at the radius, and a sharp snap reverberated, accompanied by a piercing screech of pain from Lady Irreek's beak.
She plummeted toward the ground again, the sudden loss of her left wing throwing her flight off balance.
As the ground grew nearer, she was barely able to slow her descent until she smashed into it with a dull thud.
The air escaped her lungs for a second, as the impact rang in her head, and her vision went blurry.
But she didn't miss the evil shriek that the queen made as she dove again, trying to end her opponent.
