Chapter 5 - Remnant Left Behind

DAY 1

-Jessica-

Twilight begins to dissipate, as the last remaining rays of the glittering sun washes over Manual, laying in the wreckage of broken glass, and collapsed in car parts. And Jessica laid outside of the car near the passenger window. When her body fell out, she was in a mangled pile, but as the sun descend behind the horizon, the last remaining sun shines.

Then.

She opened her eyes to reveal all crimson red and pupils pitch black.

—Awakening—

She had to admit that she was raised wealthy. But then she Never thought of herself as one of those high maintenance girls, her parents Not really It's all that for last night. No, they had the right idea of her.

She was the kind of girl that always dug into books. A real bookworm she would say, She only read stories that interest her. Her stories of futuristic societies being built within centuries, to stories of a fellowship of farm boys setting off on a journey to save a fantasy world. She loved all varieties of stories. She would get lost within these worlds of the pages that she couldn't find in Any other media. The TV and maybe a movie might attend to explain the scale of such worlds that these stories had, but not really capturing them fully, not like how they were presented on the pages.

These stories were the only coping that she can use to basically hide from the dark reality that her parents never really got along with each other. Her dad was usually one of those guys that just loves to spend time with everybody. He likes to plan out the next trip somewhere. Either it's California again or plan which island of Hawaii they should visit this year, he's basically an exciting guy that never wanted to harm anybody. He really just wanted to just have fun and enjoy the moment before he needs to go back to work.

Her mother on the other hand, Was a woman of business, She wanted no nonsense, She just wanted it straight. She's very busy, so much, to the point she plans out every single moment throughout the day. From the moment she wakes up of every morning to every daily encounter throughout the day and how she would end her day with a nice conversation with Dad. She never really fall off her schedule that much. Recently, Jessica hasn't really seen her go against everything that her schedule that she knows of. Until this day. The day that her mother picked her up unexpectedly. It was just out of nowhere because she would usually be at the office having meetings or planning out different things for her business. But no. Feels outside of school and picks up Jessica. It was the weirdest, unexpected, greatest thing that has happened to Jessica in a while. Even though they drive back was awkward. She enjoy every moment because she never had this kind of moment where their mother don't tell ever since she got that big promotion two years ago.

Everything felt like a great day to her, like the best thing that happened in months and she enjoyed every bit of it and here she thought she was going to enjoy it more with a game of soccer. But sadly that moment was the last precious moment she had with Julie until she was eaten and became one of them.

Throughout the whole entire ordeal, she denied the horrifying fate of her mother. But when She heard Rosetta's voice through the door. A thought came to remind thinking that her mother might be alive. She spoke those thoughts to her father and they cause him to try to attempt to find this theoretical talking undead wife. She was calm because she was denying the complete reality of the unbelievable that was occurring. And here when they were about to make their escape in the vehicle they had, just go. Just couldn't handle everything. She was about to snap about the breakdown in tears seeing the horror literally collapsing into the car as the undead or trying to bust through the windows, and there she saw her.

Her mother, the one that she thought was dead, was right here outside the window. With one smooth motion, her undead mother busted through the window and grabbed hold of her shoulder. Within this moment Manuel was multitasking with disabling the emergency sensor brakes on the electric vehicle, and also being destructive by Rosetta. But when that window burst open within one smooth motion, Jessica's undead mother Julie. Sunk her teeth into Jessica's arm.

Not a split second later the Tesla turned on and they escaped the garage. But sadly that reality was untrue as Jessica was now infected by whatever disease that these monsters contain. Distracted by pure grief and despair. Manuel crashed the car as he did not notice another oncoming car. Within the moment of collision, Jessica wasn't in a trance where she was slipping away from consciousness. And entering into a transition, from human to monster.

—Twilight—

Eyes Opened, as they were pitch black and pupils, crimson red.

Curious of why she was laying down on a patch of grass. And why was there smoke of dark gray coming from the flipped upside-down Tesla as it sat down on its roof. Tires were revealed to be pointed upwards, as one in the front was badly bent.

She stood up, she had the energy to jump up immediately. It felt like she just took the greatest sleep of her life. "Ha,ha,ha! Wow!" She giggled as she felt like wanting to run, climb a tree or play a game of soccer. "Dad! I don't know why, but I feel like I'm a new person. I think. I feel like. I can just take on anything… Dad?"

Then she started to remember everything, from going back home, Rosetta eating her mother like a Lion feasting on a Zebra in the African wilderness, and her father fighting off a horde of monsters. Everything, she thought it was a dream because when she woke up, It felt like every morning when she awakes from her regular dreams. She held her head with both hands as if her head was about to explode and she was trying to keep it together. Her father, fighting those monsters in the house when she sat… "in… in the car… the Tesla!" That wasn't even a dream. It was all reality. She started to lose feeling in her knees as the memory started repeating. And then the final piece of this puzzle hit her like a speeding bullet.

Waiting in the car. Opening the garage door for her father. The car that didn't go, because of the emergency sensor brakes. Then her window burst open, of shattering glass.

"…"

Feeling. That pain. The pain of teeth, squeezing her flesh and piercing through. Bleeding. She couldn't scream. She couldn't even process the moment. Standing there next to the car wreck, remembering everything.

"The monster… that bit me… was it?… somebody I know?" Feels like she knows the monster face that bit her but her mind. Her mind was rejecting the identity of the monster's face.

She begins to weep tears. "Dad. Dad!? Where are you!?" Outside the vehicle she spotted the bag, she walked towards it, her legs were wobbly shaken by the crash. Grabbing hold of it and she walked around the car looking at the wreckage of the destroyed vehicle.

The terror was paralyzing. She could not comprehend if her father was dead or not. But she needed to know, she had to know. She got on her knees and took a good look under the car and found a person laying on the ground in a pool of blood. She couldn't see clearly as there was smoke blocking her way but she can see a rolled up person on the driver's seat. She crawled closer to the body, and grabbed all of his arms and pulled him out. But before who could even be taken out of the car? The seat belt strap wrapped around the body was preventing her from pulling them out. She grabbed a hold of the belt and pulled on it. And surprisingly the belt ripped clean. Releasing Manual. She continued pulling on his arms, dragging him out of the wreckage. She dragged him by the arm, then continued to drag him away from the wreckage by grabbing and wrapping her arms under his armpits pulling his whole entire body with ease. After finally calming herself down, I'll do all the terror and worry. She took a good look at her dad and his eyes looked lifeless. No signs of breathing. Jessica felt he was cold but then again she was cold too. She looked at every sign to confirm he was dead. Pulse on the arm, and his heart beating she couldn't hear anything from his chest.

Horrified of the situation, a great wave of despair and grief washed over her. She fell to her knees as all that energy and blinding happiness was extinguished. And this horrifying reality sank into her as she leaned over him and hugged the lifeless father of hers.
