Lilly didn't care about their relationship now. She didn't care if she was talking with her mother-in-law. All she knew was that Emily had the power to protect William but she didn't.
Instead of protecting and giving him motherly love, she let him suffer and live a miserable life. Worse, William almost died. If Lilly didn't arrive on time, then perhaps William wouldn't be in this world.
Lilly could guess that there must be a big plot behind all this but she didn't care. All she knew was that Emily could have protected but she let William suffer and in a way let him die.
The only reason Lilly was even polite was because she had seen pure love and happiness when Emily held the locket. She definitely loved William. Besides, Emily had also suffered, even if it meant by her own hands. Now she just wanted to know the reason behind everything she did.
