Turning in the direction of the screaming human the demonic beast let out a low growl, revealing its bloodied fangs which still had pieces of flesh and clothing in between them. Its huge body lowered slightly like that of a predator about to pounce on its prey.
Suddenly a blue shell hit the beast releasing a wave of blue energy fumes, stopping Luke in his tracks. Before he could even mutter a word, more energy bullets rained on the beast, leaving Luke dumbfounded as he searched for the source of these attacks only to see returning village hunters.
Their rifles possessed a sleek design, with ergonomic stocks made from locally sourced wood that provided a comfortable grip for extended use.
In the hands of the village hunters, their advanced rifles were equipped with energy-charged ammunition. The ammunition, encased in sleek, metallic cartridges, carries a subtle hum of stored energy. Each bullet was infused with a compact energy cell that, upon firing, released a controlled burst of kinetic force.
This infusion not only enhanced the projectile's speed and accuracy but also ensured a swift and humane harvest, minimizing undue stress on the hunted game.
The energy-charged bullets were designed to be rechargeable, reducing the need for constant manufacturing and waste. Equipped with state-of-the-art scopes, these hunting rifles allowed the marksmen to peer deep into the forest shadows, ensuring a clean shot from a distance.
The scopes were designed with low-light vision technology, aiding hunters during dawn and dusk, when game is most active.
Unfortunately, their actions meant nothing to Luke, who kept running to Lilly's corpse. All he wanted right now was to hold his sister in his hands but then the unexpected happened.
A low growl could be heard as another demonic mutt viciously bared its fangs at the hunters. Only now did Luke stop in his tracks with tears in his eyes, conflicted on what to do.
"What are you still waiting for? Run boy!" The voice of a hunter rang from a distance.
"Lilly…" Luke muttered with pain assaulting his heart as he shot her a final glance before charging in a different direction.
He felt the urgent need to return to the village and tell his parents what happened.
Luke's sprint led him back to the village, now a haunting semblance of its former peace. The Demonic mutts ravaged the serene streets, wreaking havoc on the village.
As he hurried through the chaos, a deafening rumble emanated from a nearby building. Instinctively seeking cover, Luke darted into an alley just in time to witness a horrifying sight of a man desperately running out, pursued by a monstrous beast.
"Help me! Someone!" the man ran frantically with his eyes darting around in search of help, unaware of a sizeable piece of stone laid ahead.
As the man kept running, the low grunts of its pursuer could be heard closing in, causing him to look back but at the same time, his toes smashed into the stone, knocking him off his feet.
"…" Luke covered his mouth with his palms while he watched the horrifying scene about to unfold.
"STAY AWAY!" the man cried out as he attempted to crawl away but it was too late.
The demonic mutt lunged forward, taking hold of his leg and began trashing around, causing blood to splatter everywhere while the man cried out agonizingly. Soon the man's leg was torn off while his body hurled to the side, hitting a building and sliding down, leaving behind a blood stain trail on the wall.
Following the sound the demonic mutt sprang in that direction, landing on the chest of the man. Bone-breaking sounds could be heard as the man tried to let out a painful cry but no sound left his mouth. The beast tried to bite down and the man raised his hand to shield his face.
"Gaaaahhhhhh!" the man finally let out a pained cry as the demonic mutt tore out his arm in one swoop.
Tears, sweat, mucus and blood filled the face of the man as he watched the Beast bite down a final time, tearing off his head in one go.
The scenes unfolded rapidly, more residents emerged from their cottages, fleeing in panic as demonic creatures gave chase, instilling terror in their wake.
Seeking refuge within the alley turned out to be the best decision. Since there were more people in the open streets, the demonic beasts were too distracted by them to look into the small spaces like the alley.
Luke fought to calm his racing heart, stifling the urge to cry out. His sole focus shifted to the safety of his family, an urgency that suppressed his fear.
With resolve, he continued forward, meticulously navigating the alleys with the intent of reaching home.
As soon as Luke realized he was close to his home, he emerged from the alley. His home was in sight, and he was running towards it at full speed.
BOOM!
Just then half of the building shattered in a terrifying explosion as a demonic mutt emerged with Emma in its jaws.
Her face was pale and covered in sweat while holding on to the fangs of the demonic mutt that was piercing her belly.
"Mum…" Luke gasped in shock as he instinctively took a step forward.
"Run…" She gasped with tears running down her cheeks. "Run now!"
As soon as she was done speaking, the mutt bit down, crushing her on the spot and finishing her off.
Allowing the tears to stream down his face, Luke began running again, but this time he was aiming to leave the village. As he took a left turn, he saw a demonic beast and quickly raced behind a building using it as cover.
Unfortunately, the beast already heard the noise, causing it to turn in his direction as it began approaching with slow but steady strides.
Luke held his breath while waiting for what seemed like forever. Unable to move from this spot while hearing the demonic mutt slowly approach, he knew his life was now in the hands of the heavens. With no other option, he shut his eyes and prayed in his mind.
Suddenly a loud bang could be heard at a distance. It seemed that a hunter was attacking a beast. The demonic beast growled as it turned in that direction and dashed away.
Luke finally exhaled, only to realize his body was completely soaked in sweat. Not willing to take more chances, he moved around the building through the alley to confirm no beast was in sight before running out.
After a few more minutes of running and occasionally taking cover, Luke finally made it out of the village.
Leaving the village wasn't enough. Luke kept running in fear that one of those demonic beasts would eventually leave the village and spot him. After running for a while, he saw soldiers marching toward the village from afar.
