Chapter 16 - Scolded

"Also, I was trying to say that my fiance treats me the best before you interrupted me. He was afraid I would be stressed out that was why he set up my apartment for me. He is that kind of guy and nothing like what you accused him of," Jillian defended her fiance who wasn't there to speak for himself.

While they argued, the two adults didn't notice that Marley and Monalisa had snuck into Monalisa's bedroom.

"Was he also the one who hung the paintings over there?" Brayden asked while gesturing at the painting on the wall which captured the scene of a weeping drenched woman walking in a heavy downpour.

The painting was so realistic that it immediately captured the attention of anyone who set eyes on it.

"Why, do you want to say my fiance has a bad taste?" Jillian snarled and strolled to the sofa.

She was so engrossed on her conversation with Brayden that she forgot everything about the girls that entered the house with her.

"I actually wanted to say the one who purchased the artwork had a great taste. The artwork is a masterpiece from the mere look of it," Brayden complimented. He moved to the green sofa where Jillian occupied.

"Also, you keep calling him my fiance, doesn't he have a name? Or do you feel like his name is not important…" The shattering of glass made Jillian jump to her feet.

"What was that?" Brayden asked. He tilted his head and gazed at where the girls were and to his astonishment none of them was at sight.

"Damn it! Those two are at it again," Brayden cursed and raced toward the direction the noise came before Jillian could stop him.

"Uncle…"

"Didn't I ask you girls to be good while you are here? It hasn't been up to five minutes since you got here and you are already making a mess of her precious room. Do you want me to make sure you never get to visit here again after tonight?" Brayden scolded without giving the girls the opportunity to talk. He knew too well that they would only give excuses.

"It's just a side lamp they broke. You should be happy they didn't get injured instead of scolding them…"

"If I were you, I wouldn't defend them. You will only be encouraging them to do worse next time," Brayden cut in abruptly.

"Go to the living room and sit while Jillian and I clean up this mess here," Brayden instructed coldly.

Although Jillian told him that she would clean up the floor littered with broken glasses, Brayden declined his offer.

He assisted her to clean up the mess Marley and Monalisa created.

After warning the girls to be of good conduct during their stay there, Brayden left them in Jillian's care.

Two hours later, Brayden was seen entering a dimly lit bar occupied by about twenty guests.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" The astonished guy in a brown jacket asked as soon as he turned around and saw the guy that sat down beside him at the front of the counter.

"Didn't you turn down my invitation these past days because you had to take care of your new daughters. Don't tell me you left them at home to come have fun at the bar?" The guy in brown suit accused.

"You should know by now that I am not that kind of person …"

"What I am well aware of is that you dislike troublesome things and kids fall into that category. Knowing you too well, I am sure you will be willing to sell your soul to regain your lost freedom," He interrupted.

"Yes I admit that you know me better than others do but you got one thing wrong," Brayden started as he adjusted his butts on the black rotating chair he sat on.

"I didn't abandon them alone at home. I am not that heartless, Allison," Brayden assured him before he turned to the bartender.

"Give me my regular shots," He instructed the bartender who was quite familiar with him.

"I thought you said Marley and Monalisa particularly hated babysitters which was why they succeeded in making the three nannies you employed quit in less than a week. Don't tell me you got yet another babysitter to watch over them?" Allison made a wild guess not knowing whether or not he should feel bad for the situation his friend found himself in.

"Yes, I got them a new babysitter and she is not just a regular babysitter you can find anywhere," Brayden who couldn't afford to smile ever since his brother died was seen smiling broadly.

"What makes you so sure of that or have you forgotten that Marley and Monalisa are the two little daredevils who are capable of making the best babysitter in this field quit their jobs in two days?" Allison reminded him in case he had forgotten.

"Like I said, she is not your regular babysitter or nanny. Apart from Ethan, she is the second person in this world who can make the two girls do whatever she wants. She is that good and I have witnessed it for myself," Brayden said with so much certainty.

His confidence made Allison wonder what type of person this new babysitter was that made his aloft friend praise her so much.

"You make me want to see this special babysitter that makes you so reassured and relaxed," Allison muttered.
