Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten

"I should be asking that question, what the hell is going on here?" Nelly raised. "And where the fuck did you go?" She turned to Edward.

"Relax girl, I went for a pee break, that's all."

"Nel, just calm down and tell us what happened, okay?"

Nelly drew in a deep breath to calm herself.

"I heard voices; people screaming, then someone pulled my blanket and I thought it was him," She said, pointing at Edward.

The couple turned to face him.

"But he wasn't...there." Nelly ended thoughtfully.

Now they turned to look at each other, not knowing what to make of the tale.

"Well um.. anything else?" Alex asked, scratching his hair.

"The door went open, and I saw your daughter walk past with a boy leading her."

"That's ridiculous," Beatrice commented, not able to hold it in anymore. "She's obviously hallucinating."

"You should have thought about that before picking a house in the middle of a goddamn nowhere!" Nelly snapped in heightened frustration and anger.

"Shut up Nell!" Alex barked, making the girl turn to him in surprise. "You're in my house, so you ought to show respect to my wife."

Edward immediately left the group, it was clear whose room he was heading to.

Suddenly, a long sad howl broke into the air, making all shudder.

"That came from outside." Beatrice observed.

"She's not in her room!" Edward cried in alarm as he rejoined them with speed.

Wasting no time, they all made for the door, Alex leading the way. They came outside to find the dog in a sitting posture, howling at the sky, and Anna standing quietly behind.

"Anna, what is wrong with you?" Beatrice cried, taking her in her arms. "Don't ever scare us like that!"

"Anna," Called Alex, who didn't look so sympathetic. "What are you doing outside?"

The girl turned to face her father, then a mysterious cold smile appeared on her face.

"Looking at the star." She replied in a slow manner, pointing up.

They took their eyes up to the strangest sight each had ever witnessed.

In the center of the night sky was a star, bloody-red in colour. Its' brightness making it stand out from the rest.

Nelly gasped at the sight, and covered her mouth with her hands.

"Isn't it beautiful?" The innocent girl asked.
