Chapter 7 - 7: Totur– Training

It was a new day and four young children played around with forks and spoons at breakfast with their heads down, tainting the air with gloominess.

"My mother sold me out." Eva cried out.

"Heh~ You can't escape." Asher said, happy to have a comrade in suffering.

Eva and Emira's mother had given Emilia and Bariel permissions to train them for a month and they would check up on them from time to time. The two families were long time friends so it all worked out.

After breakfast, they were standing in from of Emilia again with gloomy expressions.

"I wanna go home! Papa!" Eva cried.

"Welp, she broke." Emilia said. "Eva, tell me the law of Mana conservation, the page number, and the author of the page."

Eva stopped crying and responded, "How am I supposed to remem– Oh wait, the law of Mana conservation states that mana can neither be created nor destroyed but can be changed from one form to another, in this case are the elements.

This only works for null mana to the element and the affinities one has. For example, you can change null mana to fire mana and you can't change it to water mana unless you have an affinity for it. Page 112. Lewis Griffith."

"Woah, if this was a novel, I wouldn't read cowdung from what you just said." Cashel spoke.

"Next, Cashel, punch the elendora tree. " Emilia spoke with a smile on her face.

"What? That's imposs– Okay, I'll do it."

Cashel walked and stood in front of the said tree. It was an off-white colour and had a smooth pearl like body and surprisingly, this tree was one of the hardest objects in the world.

He took a stance and his fist disappeared and a loud bang resounded in the courtyard.

Despite that, all one could see were scratch marks and they disappeared in the next second. Still those scratch marks were everything for Cashel.

"I scratched the tree!" He shouted in joy.

"Bruh, it's just a scratch." Asher snorted.

"What did you say?" Cashel glanced at Asher with a dark, murderous look.

"Nothing. I said nothing." Asher began to sweat while Eva laughed at him in the background.

"Now, you may be wondering why this happened, right?" Emila started to speak.

"Obviously." Asher chipped in again.

"Asher, could you turn off the button for your quick remarks. Honestly, it's getting annoying." Emilia sighed and Eva laughed at Asher again, savouring the taste of victory.

"Back to the topic, the elendora tree and magic directory book have both been altered with runes and formations.

The body strengthening formation and joint pain rune. The memory enhancement formation and the nerve breaking rune. Both runes are necessary for the formations to work and it also helps my motto. 'No pain, no gain." Emilia ended with a cruel smile.

Everyone shivered. Just what would they face in the next few weeks?

———

7 long years passed, filled with sweat, blood and grime for the 4 children. Today, everyone stood in a room for it was a joyous occasion as Duke Robert Roseburn and his wife; Alicia Roseburn and General Bariel Von Wight and General Emilia Von Wight all stood in a room with smiles on their faces.

Eva and Emira stood side by side in front of a transparent orb and Asher and Cashel stood in another corner.

"It is a joyous occasion," Duke Roseburn or rather, Robert, started. "According to our tradition, children at the age of twelve awaken their magic and train for a year till they can go to a magic academy at the age of thirteen.

Today, my beloved daughters, Eva Roseburn and Emira Roseburn stand here in front of the 'orb of awakening'."

Robert continued his speech until it was time. Eva knelt before the orb first as she was the older twin and she slit her palm with the knife on the table.

With this, she could finally start practicing magic! For the past seven years, she and Asher had their heads buried in books since they weren't awakened yet while Cashel and Emira did some pretty gruesome physical training.

For an entire month, Emilia had increased their pain tolerance by making them inflict injuries on themselves when they were only seven years old.

She and Asher did some physical training too to not get 'rusty' as Emilia said.

Blood poured onto the orb and it began to heat up and it started to get absorbed by the orb and the next moments, the orb started to heat up and evaporate all the blood. The steam went straight into Eva's cut palm and closed the wound.

A core of condensed mana started to form in her solar plexus and was shining lime crazy and it died down. The formerly transparent orb showed an dark purple and light purple colour in two parts.

"Congratulations, Eva, you have awakened darkness and lightning elemental affinities!" Roberts rejoiced.

"A dual elementalist, that's rare and the elements she received are even rarer for elves." Emilia spoke.

"Hey Alicia, are you sure you didn't cheat on your husband with a vamp?"

"Such nonsense, I would never go near those filth." Alicia replied.

"Now I see where I got my sharp mouth from." Asher spoke.

"Shut it!" Emilia glared at Asher but he only gave her a cheeky smile in response.

Emira followed the same process and the orb was shining with a dense red colour and a thick brown colour.

"Congratulations, Emira, you have a fire affinity with a high chance of forming lightning and earth affinity with a high chance of forming metal." Robert spoke again.

"Father, I have a question. I thought one could only form lightning from the fire element so how did I get lightning straight away?" Eva questioned.

"Well, it happens once in a while. Although, in your case, you'll never be able to use fire since you skipped it completely. It's a theory we're still pondering upon and it happens even with other elements." Robert answered her.

"I see..."

Bariel who had been quiet since the beginning, spoke, "Shouldn't we have a party over this, some beer would be good."

"Well, since you'll be going to Wincrest academy next year so, I'll go I've you two some tips on how to survive... or you might die if you aren't careful..."
